Claire Richards and Joe Washbourn were voted off 'Popstar to Operastar' last night (03.07.11). The former Steps singer and Toploader frontman received the lowest amount of viewer votes and as there was no sing-off like previous weeks, both found themselves going home. Mother-of-two Claire told host Myleene Klass: "I am going to miss it, I've loved singing again. It's nice to show my kids what mummy did before." Joe said he would give his vocal chords a rest before "going back to the day job". Claire's departure was a shock as she had impressed everyone with her version of the 'Queen Of The Night'...

Claire told The Sun, “I’m going to miss it – it’s been so nice to be singing again.
“It’s nice that the kids are going to know that I don’t just stay at home and be a mummy.”

Joe McElderry and Cheryl Baker will go head-to-head in next week's Popstar to Operastar live final. The X Factor winner and Bucks Fizz star were both saved by the British public in tonight's semi-final, after performing a duet together of Andrea Bocelli's 'Canto Della Terra'. Former Steps singer Claire Richards and Toploader frontman Joseph Washbourn were both voted out of the competition after failing to impress viewers with their own duet of Francesco Sartori and Lucio Quarantotto's classic 'Con te partirò/'Time To Say Goodbye'. "I am going to miss it, I've had a lovely time," Richards told host Myleene Klass, following the announcement. "It's so nice to be singing again. I am [going (more)...

It seems Joe Washbourn, Toploader singer and Popstar to Operastar contestant, has set his sights on becoming a wedding singer.
The Sun reports that Joe, who’s currently favourite to leave the show tomorrow night, won’t however be adding opera singer to his CV.
He told TV Biz, “When it comes to a Toploader gig, you’re going to get Toploader songs.
“But opera is something I’ve had so much fun doing I might be busting it out at weddings and mates’ parties.”
However, Joseph may sneak some opera onto new tracks. The songwriter, 35, said:
“Never say never. I might sling a bit in the next album!”
Joe went on to discuss who he thinks will win Popstar, citing Joe McElderry as his favourite…
He said, “I think he’s an expert at this type of show. He doesn’t seem that nervous.”

Popstar to Operastar contestants Claire Richards and Joe Washbourn believe they’ll leave the contest this week.
Claire, former Steps star, and Joe, Toploader’s front man, have been paired together for the semi-final duet this coming Sunday, and Joe revealed that the choice of song – ‘Con Te Partiro’, Italian for “time to say goodbye” – intimates that their time may be up.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Joe said, “It means “time to say goodbye” in Italian. So it sounds like we are going”.
Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry – who’s still firm favourite to win the show – will duet with Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker, and he’s claimed that if he wins, it’ll be because he won on the “popular vote”.
Classical opera singer Katherine Jenkins has previously suggested that 20-year-old Joe could have a great career in opera if he’s prepared to put in the tough training.

Andy Bell became the latest contestant to be voted off 'Popstar to Operastar' last night (26.06.11). The Erasure singer - who landed in the bottom two alongside Toploader frontman Joe Washbourn - stumbled over his words in the sing-off to 'Largo Al Factotum' from 'The Barber of Seville', causing judges Vanessa Mae, Katherine Jenkins, Simon Callow and Rolando Villazon to unanimously decide to send him home. However, the 47-year-old musician admitted he had suffered a "complete blank" due to the pressure of being in the sing-off. Speaking to host Myleene Klass, he said: "It's not like doing a gig and I had a...

Andy Bell has become the fourth celebrity to leave Popstar To Operastar. The Erasure lead failed to win over the judges after landing bottom of the public vote alongside Toploader's Joseph Washbourn. Bell's fate was seemingly sealed after he forgot his words and appeared to lose confidence in his performance during a final sing-off against Washbourn. As host Myleene Klass threw voting over to the panel, judge Katherine Jenkins stated that she had "hoped [the decision] wouldn't be as clear cut", before accepting that eliminating Bell was the "totally fair thing to do". Jenkins's sentiment was echoed by Vanessa-Mae, who argued that "nerves got the better of" Bell and opted to vote him out. Simon Callow also decided to spare Washbourn - who has finished in the bottom of the public vote for the previous two weeks - (more)...
