The Royal Opera House has confirmed it has ended its sponsorship relationship with Bp after more than three decades.
The major move comes after the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Portrait Gallery have cut ties with Bp in recent years. The BFI, National Theatre, National Gallery and Tate Galleries have also all previously rejected oil company sponsorship.
A spokesman for the venue in London’s Covent Garden said: “We are grateful to Bp for their sponsorship over 33 years which has enabled thousands around the country to see free opera and ballet through our Bp Big Screens.
“Over the past three years, Bp’s support has focused on sustainability initiatives, supporting the Royal Opera House’s recovery post-pandemic and supporting our drive towards net zero.
“We would like to thank Bp for their support, but agreed that the partnership would not extend beyond December 2022, when Bp’s contract came to an end.

This Ratched article contains spoilers.
Ken Kesey’s classic 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest has received a fashionable yet twisted facelift in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series, Ratched. With this Sarah Paulson-starring series, the American Horror Story creator follows through on his reputation of gruesome twists and jaw-dropping turns.
Ratched forms an interpretation of Nurse Ratched from Kesey’s novel, giving her a backstory that features a clandestine mission and the creation of a monster. Mildred Ratched’s glamorous exterior along with her paradoxical doting behavior towards patients belies her dark side. Nurse Ratched rules the hospital with an iron fist of absolute authority, and very little medical knowledge.
This show blends horror with sexuality and turns it back round again with subplots that scream of American Horror Story.
The series also critiques out-dated and inhumane forms of psychotherapy that were happening in many psychiatric institutions of the time.

Training Day is one of the gems of early 2000’s cinema. It featured both Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke at the height of their games and the movie displayed a raw and gritty take on what it meant to be a police officer in the modern age, not shying away from some of the harsh truths, even while it was exaggerating them.
The film, which was written by David Ayer and directed by Antoine Fuqua, went on to become a huge hit with fans and grossed more than $100 million at the box office. It was also a critical darling, with reviewers gushing over the no holds barred story.
Denzel Washington’s portrayal of the egomaniacal Detective Alonzo Harris was particularly lauded, with many calling it one of his best performances. Washington would go on to be nominated for a plethora of awards, too, including the Academy Award for Best Actor,...

A prequel to Antoine Fuqua’s 2001 Academy Award-winning crime drama “Training Day” is now in the works at Warner Bros. According to Collider’s Jeff Sneider, the prequel penned by Black List scribe Nick Yarborough will take place in Los Angeles in 1992 just two days before the Rodney King verdict, in which Lapd officers were acquitted of charges of the brutal beating of King, rocked the city and divided its citizens. This would set the film just on the eve of the La Riots that followed. The riots, which turned Los Angeles into a fiery war zone that left nearly no neighborhood unscathed, lasted nearly a week — and changed the face of the city forever. No word yet on any additional cast or crew attached to the upcoming “Training Day” prequel.
According to Sneider, the prequel will center on a younger version of Alonzo Harris, the shady, off-the-books narcotics detective...

Jeff Goldblum dictates medical notes in his underwear, a long pipe dangling from his jaw. Figure skaters wield bright red fans as they circle a photo of Udo Kier. An inebriated Denis Lavant proclaims the virtues of a cheap painting on his wall. These are just a few of the indelible images in Rick Aversion’s “The Mountain,” a beautiful, challenging, and altogether singular portrait of America’s fractured identity. Known for his provocative explorations of outsiders with “The Comedy” and “Entertainment,” Alverson tackles his biggest canvas to date with this enigmatic look at early ‘50s America, drawing a fascinating contrast between its mythological ideals and harsh realities.
As with all of Alverson’s movies, the hypnotic storytelling takes time to settle in and encourages viewers to ponder its enigmatic pathways, not all of which lead to satisfying places. Nevertheless, this somber and lyrical achievement is the warmest and most...

After premiering his last two movies at Sundance, “The Comedy” and “Entertainment” writer/director Rick Alverson is headed to Venice. “The Mountain” stars Jeff Goldblum and Tye Sheridan as a pioneering lobotomist and a young man who’s lost his parents in two different ways, respectively, and anyone who’s seen Alverson’s earlier work knows that the oddity won’t stop there. Ahead of its festival debut, avail yourself of two still photos and the film’s poster.
Speaking to IndieWire earlier this year, Goldblum explained that his character is inspired by Dr. Walter Freeman, “the guy who pioneered the lobotomy, did Rosemary Kennedy’s lobotomy. This is an extrapolation of that kind of character. Drugs have come in, so it’s very controversial what I’m doing.”
Named Dr. Wallace Fiennes, this fellow has “pioneered a way of doing it…like [Freeman] did, through the eyeball, with my own kind of ice picks…...

Rick Alverson’s films don’t tend to lend themselves to easy elevator pitches or punchy plot descriptions, and the “Entertainment” and “The Comedy” filmmaker’s ambitious next film, “The Mountain,” keeps with that trend. When it was first announced, the period drama, which he wrote alongside Dustin Guy Defa and Colm O’Leary, was billed as the story of “a young man who lost his mother and was raised by his emotional stunted father goes to work with his mentor, a doctor who performs lobotomies and shock therapy.”
And while’s that a relatively meaty description of an Alverson film, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Just ask the guy playing that lobotomy-giving doctor: Jeff Goldblum.
The actor, who’s next heard in this week’s “Isle of Dogs,” has a packed schedule, including both big budget sequels like “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and the intriguing “The Mountain.
