To those of a certain generation, James Bond 007 will forever be defined by the way the original movie Bond, Sean Connery, played him. Recalling where you were when you saw Goldfinger for the first time has almost the same impact as many other momentous events in our young lives. As I was reminded this morning in an email from Darryl, my school buddy, “Remember when Bob Barr, you, and me went to see Goldfinger at the Palos Verdes Fox theater? We sat through it twice. Great memories.”
Ah, yes. He didn’t have to remind me. It seems like yesterday. We also sat through the Goofy cartoon short playing with it in order to do that. At that point I hadn’t even seen the first Bond film, Dr. No, and I do recall liking the second one, From Russia With Love, a lot. But Goldfinger was something else. It was,...

The guest list on today's Freedom Watch, Fox Business Network's libertarian talk show, was a roundup of the usual suspects-- almost. There was Rep. Ron Paul, his son, Senator-Elect Rand Paul, former Congressman Bob Barr and liberal media mogul Arianna Huffington. Needless to say her visit was slightly more contentious than any of the others, with host Judge Andrew Napolitano repeatedly bringing up Huffington's conservative past and asking, "how can anybody take you seriously?"...

As if you haven't already heard enough about today's election, now the heroes from the Marvel Universe are weighing in.
Our friends over at MTV spoke with writers on comics including X-Men, Hulk, Iron Man and Punisher. The results? Well, apparently those with superhuman abilities and genetic mutations are a pretty leftist bunch. Frank Castle (aka "The Punisher"), on the other hand, picks libertarian outsider Bob Barr, although Castle's voter eligibility remains questionable.
For the rest of the Marvel choices, head over to MTV's Splash Page.

Norman Mingo’s iconic image of Alfred E. Neuman was first used by Mad Magazine back in 1956 as comment upon the Eisenhower / Stevenson election or, more to the point, in parody of the typical Time magazine cover of its time. Mingo’s Alf is still in use to this day; as is the struggle between the donkey and elephant also depicted on that cover.
We’ve had presidents and presidential elections in comics since the staple was first applied to cheap newsprint. Recently we’ve had Lex Luthor as president in the DC universe, and Stephen Colbert running for the same job in the Marvel universe. The president is one of the most important of the American icons, perhaps even moreso than Alfred E. Neuman.
Tomorrow is Election Day, and you will be asked to pick from at least two clear and distinctive voices. Whichever candidate wins, his impact on our future will be immense.
