Three years after arriving at Sony Pictures, Ravi Ahuja has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment, effective April 1.
The executive, who is currently Chairman, Global Television Studios and Corporate Development, is being promoted to a position that hasn’t been previously filled.
While Sony Pictures Entertainment didn’t comment on succession planning, Ahuja’s promotion has all the marks of exactly that in regards to who will ultimately take the reins after Tony Vinciquerra’s tenure ends as Spe Chairman and CEO. Duly note that Vinciquerra is not leaving the studio anytime soon.
Ahuja will keep his current chairman role and title at Sony Pictures Television and continue to report to Vinciquerra.
Similar to Vinciquerra, Ahuja is a Fox Networks vet; the duo worked together there. Ahuja joined Fox in 2007 after a 12-year run after serving as CFO of Virgin Entertainment Group. As CFO of the Fox Networks Group,...

Sony Pictures Entertainment is upping its head of television Ravi Ahuja to president and chief operating officer of the entire studio.
While not explicitly stated by Spe chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra in his internal memo regarding Ahuja’s appointment to the No. 2 role, it is a clear indication of Vinciquerra’s succession plan for when he ultimately decides to retire from his top post in the coming years.
Ahuja, currently the chairman of Sony global television studios and corporate development, will take on his new responsibilities beginning April 1 and shift to Sony’s Poitier Building in Culver City, while still retaining his position as chief of Sony Pictures Television.
He will continue reporting directly to Vinciquerra, and their respective lines of reports and leadership will not be changed as a result of the promotion. Tom Rothman remains in his role as chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s motion picture group,...

Ahuja is taking on the new role “to work more closely with me and our entire leadership team as we chart our path forward through a rapidly changing and increasingly complex entertainment industry.”
Ahuja, currently chairman of Sony Pictures Television and head of corporate development, will also continue to oversee the company’s TV business in his elevated role.
The promotion to president and COO (a position that did not exist previously) positions Ahuja as a likely successor to Vinciquerra, though a source noted that the Spe CEO is not expected to leave his post anytime soon.

‘Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye’ portrays an impossible love story between two contrasting characters – Amruta (Sriti Jha) and Virat (Arjit Taneja). In the recent episodes of the family drama, viewers witnessed how the Ahuja family has been making false allegations about Amruta behaving inappropriately with Virat’s would-be brother-in-law Rajeev (Bhavya Shinde).
In the upcoming episodes, Virat declares Amruta as an assistant to Ishika, who is organizing his sister Nimrit and Rajeev’s pre-wedding functions. Amruta is naturally horrified as Ishika is none other than the very woman her father has left her mother for.
Adding insult to the injury, Ishika transforms Amruta into a living mannequin to greet guests at Nimrit and Rajeev’s cocktail party.

It’s entirely possible there will have been another update by the time you read this, but as of right now it looks like the auction for the Squid Game: The Challenge and The Traitors super-indie will end with rival Banijay the winner. In October, we revealed Banijay, Peter Chernin’s North Road Company and Goldman Sachs were the frontrunners, with ITV keeping tabs on things from the sidelines. At industry shindig Content London this week (more on that below), rumors were flying that the bidding process was coming to a head,...

During the streaming boom, Sony was one of the few big entertainment companies that held back from creating its own platform. And now that the market has cooled down, Ravi Ahuja, chairman of Sony Pictures’ Global Television Studios, sees this as a massive advantage.
During a keynote at Content London on Wednesday, Ahuja said that what drew him to Sony in the first place was because while working at Disney and Fox, he “saw firsthand the complexity of operating in that kind of environment.”
“Here, it’s not only a very large, independent studio, with the benefit of a lot of resources … but with a very focused mission: make great shows, find the right home,” Ahuja said. “That’s it. It’s not overly complicated by trying to satisfy platform demands, trying to balance different things.”
Now that the strikes are over, Ahuja said that “things are getting back to normal” in the production world.

Sony Pictures Televisions’ Ravi Ahuja has described how the U.S. market had become “too hot” and “inefficient” over recent years, but is now moving towards a healthier “cooling phase.”
During a keynote interview at Content London, Spt’s Chairman of Global Television Studios said the U.S. market was “getting back to normal” two weeks after the SAG-AFTRA deal was unveiled, though it has been a “mad scramble” to get productions back up and running.
“This is an interesting inflection point for our industry,” he added, pointing to Covid, the streaming reset and other market factors. “So many things have happened. It’s a new normal, let’s look at it that way.”
Ahuja said that volumes of programs being ordered had dropped off “a decent amount, even before the strikes.”
He added: “Against the strikes, the ad market contraction around the world and the streaming reset happening at the same time,...

Sony’s chairman of global TV studios Ravi Ahuja warned that the end of the peak TV era will likely “be painful for most companies,” as cost-cutting measures across the industry leads to less shows and money spent on marketing.
Ahuja, who also manages corporate development, said that while he hopes the big media companies are done with layoffs after this year’s staff reduction efforts, he predicts the changing streaming business model will find media power players cutting back on content production and promotion over the next two years.
“You’ll see a little bit of the air coming out of the balloon,” Ahuja told TheWrap’s editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman during a spotlight conversation at TheGrill, the publication’s annual business conference, on Wednesday. “The portfolio shows may...

New Delhi, Aug 12 (Ians) The cult classic ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ which was released four decades ago, in 1983, stands as an enduring testament to the power of satire and humour, coupled with social commentary on corruption and media, in the Indian cinema.
Directed by Kundan Shah, and starring an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Shah, late Satish Kaushik, Bhakti Barve and Neena Gupta, the movie was a dark satire on the rampant corruption in Indian politics, bureaucracy, news media and business.
It still remains a timeless classic because of its razor-sharp wit and incisive take on corruption, politics, and societal hypocrisy.
Produced by National Film Development Corporation of India (Nfdc), the film’s narrative revolves around the misadventures of two bumbling photographers, Vinod Chopra (played by Naseeruddin), and Sudhir Mishra (played by Ravi).

The Spanish series Elite has its remake, in this case, from India with Class, a series directed by Ashim Ahluwalia who tells us the story of three students from a poor district in Delhi who go to study in an elitistic high school in town, with the subsequent conflicts, adventures and murders.
It comes with the same structure and in the telling of the story the same premise. It justifies its change (a fire that makes the three students go to the expensive high school) and transports the Spanish Class to India.
Lots of you might say that plot-wise, you would rather settle for the original version and as for boldness, you would surely settle for the original which knew how to make use of its sexier side. In Class we have more social inequalities, less thriller and intrigue and more social discourse.
As always, it is a matter of...

Under the deal, Sony has acquired 100 of Pixomondo. The company will continue to be led by CEO Jonny Slow, who will now report to Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global TV Studios and Spe Corporate Development.
The acquisition of Pixomondo, alongside Sony Pictures Imageworks and Sony Innovation Studios, strengthens Sony’s role in virtual production and further enables the studio to serve the growing visual effects and premium television and film production industries.
Just last month, Sony Pictures unveiled its first LED stage Culver City, Calif.

Jeff Frost is stepping down from his role as president of Sony Pictures Television Studios.
Frost has held the position as the studio’s chief for the past five years. He was appointed by Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra following the exits of former presidents Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht for their roles leading Apple TV+. Frost formerly served as Sony Pictures Television Studios’ head of business affairs.
Ravi Ahuja, Sony’s chairman of global television studios, and Frost revealed the news in a Thursday memo to staff obtained by Variety, noting that Frost will stay on through September while the studio searches for a new leader. Ahuja also confirmed that Jason Clodfelter, who is co-president reporting to Frost — a position he previously shared with the now-exited Chris Parnell — has recently renewed his contract and will remain in his current position.

Exclusive: Jeff Frost, a 15-year Sony TV veteran, is stepping down as President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, a post he has held for the past five years. According to sources, his departure was a mutual decision. With the TV studio coming off a banner year — hitting an all-time high of over 50 produced series and making waves at the 2021 Emmy nominations — I hear Frost felt it was time to leave and start a new chapter. Frost just shared his decision with his staff; Ravi Ahuja, Chairman, Global Television Studios, announced Frost’s departure in a company email. (You can read both in full at the bottom of the post.)
There is no immediate replacement for Frost. I hear a search is in very early stages, and the studio has held exploratory conversations with a handful of seasoned TV executives. Frost will stay on through September to help with the transition.
