Described as The Warriors meets The Wraith in the press release (I'd argue there's some Psychomania in here as well), Moped Knights is a fun little slice of 80’s-inspired horror. The short film features a resurrected gang of moped riders out for blood. Directed by Mike Pecci (12 Kilometers) and written by Tony Fernandez, Moped Knights was created as a pitch for a longer series. If you're into great production values and original music from DJ Voltran and Tim Leefo --- as well as from the popular retro-wave act Perturbator --- you'll enjoy this short. Starring Lance Williams as the Rider, Moped Knights introduces the real-life Boston moped gang The Uglies. The film originally premiered at the Boston Underground Film Festival, where it opened for The Editor, directed by Adam Brooks and Matthew...

From the start, 12 Kilometers is a feat; it's one of those short films --- clocking in at just under 28 minutes --- that feels like a big budget feature film. This short feels even more so because it's sci-fi horror. Writer/director Mike Pecci is a talented guy; you'd probably never be able to tell that this 1980s period piece set in Kola, Russia was shot in Massachusetts in 2015. The film was influenced by the "Well to Hell" urban legend of a Russian team lowering a microphone into the Kola Superdeep Borehole --- and ultimately recording the voices of those trapped in Hell. Director of photography David Kruta delivers a series of beautiful Cinemascopic images that make the film look like it was funded...

The 17th annual Boston Underground Film Festival is set to explode all over the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square on March 25-29.
Opening Night: The fun kicks off on the 25th at 7:30 p.m. with the exciting new flick from the always amazing Astron-6 collective, The Editor, an homage to the brutal Giallo movies of the ’70s and ’80s directed by Adam Brooks and Matthew Kennedy. This will be followed by the restored version of the legendary cult classic Gone With the Pope by the notorious Duke Mitchell.
Closing Night: Goodnight Mommy the debut feature film by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz, will screen at 8:30 p.m. on the 29th and is a nightmarish vision of familial dread when twin brothers believe their cosmetically altered mother is literally not the woman she used to be.

Previously we've seen a couple of impressive short films from producer Ari Shankar from the comic book universe. Joe Lynch directed Truth in Journalism, a take off on the Spider-Man character Venom, and Mike Pecci directed The Dead Can't Be Distracted, which was a bootleg version of The Punisher. Now Shankar is back with Power/Rangers, a gritty, R-rated, 14-minute short film directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque) that adapts "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers." The film certainly puts an interesting twist on the mythology of the Japanese imported action adventure, and it's much different from the eventual big screen take on the way. Plus, it stars James Van Der Beek and Katie Sackhoff, which is just completely surreal. Watch! Here's Joseph Kahn & Adi Shankar's short film Power/Rangers (via HitFix): And if you're wondering just why Shankar decided to make this movie, here you go: Interestingly enough, Kahn wasn't...

With only 3 days left on kickstarter, Mike Pecci has released a brand new teaser trailer for his upcoming horror film 12 Kilometers.
Director Mike Pecci (Grindhouse Shorts / The Dead Can’t Be Distracted) knows these corridors all too well. While ice skating for the first time earlier this year, Pecci slipped and cracked his skull open, suffering a hematoma and multiple concussions. Five days in intensive care, over two months of recovery time and a flood of painkillers later, a storyline began to emerge in the form of Pecci’s original horror film, “12 Kilometers.”
The strange and creepy footage give us an up-close look at the in-camera creature effects for the film. Beautifully shot blood vessels, and disturbing black oils mixing to create something terrifying! Watch the new trailer then head over to: http://kck.st/1uONYYg You will find all sorts of great videos and incentives including concept art from comic book artist Ben Templesmith.

The Punisher Trailer that Killed a Fan-Film. Mike Pecci‘s The Dead Can’t Be Distracted (2013) short film teaser trailer starring Nick Apostolides and Evalena Marie was apparently too high-end for Marvel Studios. The short film trailer caused a cease-and-desist order by Marvel before the full trailer and short film could [...]

We've seen a few fan-made Punisher short films over the years, but this is the first short film I've heard of that Marvel is shutting down. It's called The Dead Can't Be Distracted, and it came from director Mike Pecci. The story was based on a comic run by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto.
Marvel ended up sending a cease-and-desist letter to Pecci to "immediately stop unauthorized use, advertising, sale and/or distribution of any production of The Punisher or any other Marvel character-based films." Which means the movie can never be released without Marvel jumping on his ass. Pecci explains
"According to Marvel it would ‘confuse the audience’ into believing that it's an official Marvel production. At first, I was flattered that the quality of our work might even compare to the millions they spend on production and advertising, but then the reality of it all set in. Marvel...

Marvel recently gained some negative press when it put a halt to a fan made Punisher movie called The Dead Can’t Be Distracted after it deemed the film too similar to its own work and therefore confusing for the fans of the character who would struggle to distinguish it as anything other than an official project. Although this is incredibly unfair and perhaps overlooks how smart fans actually are it should on the one hand be seen as a compliment to the film’s creator Mike Pecci as his fan made film is as good as anything the mighty Marvel machine is making on nowhere near the same budget.
The Dead Can’t Be Distracted would have followed an unofficial ‘fan movie’ that appeared on YouTube last year called Laundry Day which starred Thomas Jane as a man who closely resembled Frank Castle cleaning up the streets when he...

We've seen some impressive Marvel fan films from producer Adi Shankar, including The Punisher: Dirty Laundry starring Thomas Jane, and the stylistic Truth in Journalism which features Eddie Brock before he becomes Venom. Now Shankar has been working on another Marvel-inspired film, focusing on The Punisher again. However, this time, Marvel has taken action to shut down The Dead Can't Be Distracted, the film from director Mike Pecci which takes cues from a specific comic run by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto. While we might not see the full film anytime soon, we at least have a trailer. Watch! Here's the trailer for The Dead Can't Be Distracted which was released in May (via Movies.com): Marvel has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Pecci to "immediately stop unauthorized use, advertising, sale and/or distribution of any production of The Punisher or any other Marvel character-based films." It's an all-too-common event in the Internet age. A person makes a cool-looking trailer or fan-film based on a popular film, television or game franchise, then said filmmaker gets a cease and desist letter from the company who actually owns the intellectual property. It's happened again this week -- and this time, it's Marvel trying to put the kibosh on a cool little project. Director Mike Pecci loves The Punisher -- and he's channeled that love of Marvel's most infamous vigilante into a fan project entitled The Dead Can't Be Distracted -- inspired by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto's much-loved run on the comic series. In preparation for an online release of the finished film, Pecci has revealed the first teaser trailer for the project, and...

We’ve been eagerly anticipating the Punisher fan film “The Dead Can’t Be Distracted” since it was announced a few months ago. But now, after a cease and desist letter from Marvel, it looks like the film will never see the light of day. And even more importantly and portentously, what does this mean for the future of fan films – and the future of Punisher on the big screen?
That’s a lot of questions, but first a bit of history. In a five page long open letter on his website, creator Mike Pecci extensively runs through the production, development, and eventual demise of “The Dead Can’t Be Distracted.” It’s a fascinating read full of a lot of tech info on filming, and even a few shots and a screen test. In fact, given that Marvel wrote a cease and desist stating:

Punisher fan film The Dead Can't Be Distracted has been hit with a cease-and-desist order from Marvel Studios.

McFarland & Pecci present the teaser trailer for The Dead Can’t Be Distracted. This visually stunning fan film is a brand new take on the Punisher inspired by the recent series by Greg Rucka. The film stars newcomer Nick Apostolides as a younger, more rugged, Castle who shares screen time with Evalena Marie (Steve Niles Remains) as Sargent Cole-Alves. Looks pretty damned good, eh? Filmmakers Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci are aiming to release "The Dead Can't Be Distracted" later this summer. It will take inspiration from Greg Rucka's superb run - pencilled by Marco Checchetto for the most part - which was sadly cut short for Frank Castle to be made a part of the critically panned "Marvel Now!" Thunderbolts series. More promotional images can be found over at Comic Book Resources.

Whether you loved or hated Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse, you can't deny that it certainly brought the spotlight back to the ailing genre. The over-the-top violence, gore, nudity and exploitation aren't for everyone; but for fans of grindhouse films, Mike Pecci has become a constant source of joy.

I recently spent 10 days color grading a project alongside Mike Pecci. The project is a feature length doc that Mike had worked on as the Director of Photography, Push: Madison V. Madison.
The two of us spent 10 hours a day for 10 days in a row scrutinizing over every last frame coming up with and adjusting a color palette for this film. Don’t get me wrong — I loved being able to develop and apply a look for a film — it just seems like my brain has turned to mush after spending 100 hours staring at computer monitors. What made this project even more interesting is that the studio we were using was busy during the day, which meant that our hours would be over night.

Previously…
I fucked up and left expensive camera equipment on a bus. Now I must face the consequences.
After three hours of kicking myself and asking for help at the bus station I headed to Mike Pecci’s house to tell him what had happened. I just ruined his life by losing all of his camera equipment.
Riding the bus only a few hours after the incident felt awkward. I felt like a child coming home to face punishment after misbehaving at school, which I experienced often as a kid. My mom would yell at me and I would sit in my room and read X-Men comics and play Sega until she cooled down. Mike doesn’t have any video games.
The lump in my throat grew larger as I walked up Mike’s driveway.

I have worked for McFarland and Pecci for quite some time now and we had gone from an employer/employee relationship to being close friends with one another. This past week I put that friendship through an enormous amount of stress.
Mike Pecci agreed to let me borrow his camera so I could take a few photos for my blog while I did some assistant editing work for Ian McFarland. I wasn.t sure what camera or which lens to bring, so I brought his whole kit — two camera bodies, three lenses, an Led light, extra batteries, battery chargers, and two 8 gig and one four gig compact flash cards. All packed into a black Pelican case.
I am an idiot for bringing the entire kit with me that morning.

We Are Movie Geeks welcomes guest blogger Tony Fernandez, a production assistant taking us inside the underworld of indie filmmaking.
I work as a production assistant for the directing duo McFarland and Pecci at Killswitch Productions. I.ve hung out with metal bands, covered naked women in blood, fired machine guns, been tasked with purchasing unflattering parts of animals, and have spent many nights curled up on a bathroom floor.
Every week I will be sharing stories, giving insight to what it.s like to work for McFarland and Pecci during the production of independent films and music videos.
A year ago I was searching through Craigslist and came across a posting looking for a photographer.s assistant; I responded and was soon contacted back and instructed to meet the photographer at his house. I arrived and saw a note written on the front door that read: .Around back, through basement.

The latest video from 7L & Esoteric is a refreshing new approach to hip hop music videos. Brutally honest In a genre filled with bravado and flashy extravagance, 7Les along with the directing team McFarland & Pecci set out to make a bad situation as real as possible.
Ian Mcfarland: “Mike and I saw an article in the New York Times on joy riders in Ireland and we both called each other and said this would make an amazing video! The photography by Ross McDonnell had this beautiful gritty realism that would be perfect for hip hop and the embedded feel that the photographer captured really piqued my interest.”
Mike Pecci: I saw this video as an opportunity to create a real world in which the violence and edge that hip hop wants to have could actually exist. Esoteric was a perfect match and understood what we were going for immediately.

Back in fearful force with their upcoming album Mechanize, industrial-metal giants Fear Factory are kicking off the production process on the video for the first single, Fear Campaign. Frontman Burton C. Bell has described the band's new material as more brutally realistic than their past work, suggesting that reality has finally caught up with the dystopian nightmare worlds they only fantasized about in their music before. That's a pretty heavy prospect... but heavy is how these guys roll. Find out more about the video after the jump! According to the latest from Blabbermouth.net, Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci will be sharing directing duties on the Fear Campaign video, and McFarland recently discussed the overall...
