"These people are dangerous!" "I warned you..." Lionsgate has just released an official trailer for a "cyber-thriller" set in the high stakes world of blockchain technology titled Crypto, from director John Stalberg Jr. (High School). It didn't take long for someone to make a film involving blockchain, it's the big technology buzzword right now and everyone wants in on it - so why not write a plot involving it. Crypto is about a Wall Street banker who connects a small-town art gallery to a global conspiracy, putting his own family in grave danger. Starring Beau Knapp as the banker, with Kurt Russell, Liam Hemsworth, Alexis Bledel, Vincent Kartheiser, Jill Hennessy, Malaya Rivera Drew, and Gabe Fazio. Surprise, surprise, this looks pretty awful. It's all bark and no bite, with such a contrived and unoriginal plot. Not looking any good. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for John Stalberg Jr.'s Crypto,...

Chicago – Lauded as the first great poet of Latin America, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz served as both an artistic and philosophical trailblazer in the most consequential of orders. A self-instructed scholar of Baroque thought, Sor Juana piloted a course of unprecedented intellect as well as feminist ideology during her brief years. What has rightfully garnered the scribe a nonpareil reverence was her audacity to posit such work in a time of a most restrictive piety.
Play Rating: 2.0/5.0
Barreling forth under the 17th Century Counter Reformation and the lambastic eye of the Inquisition, Sor Juana acquitted herself before academic salons and scrawled suggestive poetry during a period when women were primarily confined to whatever literary zest was to be found in scripture.

Hers is undoubtedly a life after which narrators of biographical fiction can often only hunger.

Last year in our annual overview of the Year in Television, Malinda Lo wrote, “Though there is still plenty of room for improvement — particularly on broadcast TV — the low points of 2007 do not contradict the fact that lesbian/bi representation on TV this past year has increased and improved significantly.”
Clearly, a lot can change in a year.
Though 2008 comes to a close with word of possible new queer female characters on the horizon in the coming year, the prospects for lesbians and bisexual women on television over the last twelve months have been somewhat grim.
This has been particularly true for lesbians, whose numbers on scripted network television have now dwindled to zero.
While portrayals of lesbian characters on Grey’s Anatomy and Cashmere Mafia (both on ABC) showed initial promise, it wasn’t long before their storylines turned sour and came to a screeching halt, due to either...
