The recent spectacle of Dennis Rodman fawning over Kim Jong-un has taken many people by surprise. Why is an aging basketball star palling around with a man whose chubby digits linger over the nuclear button? Well, there are more similarities between the dictator and the celebrity than are at first obvious- both are immensely powerful in their own way, have earned the adoration or hatred of billions of people worldwide, and can have their every ridiculous whim catered to.
When you can’t hang out with ordinary people for fear of being assassinated/photographed, of course you’re going to find some common ground. And this isn’t a recent phenomenon. The history of celeb/tyrant hook-ups goes as far back as the 1930s, to our first example…

Nobody Can Cool is the rather impressive directorial debut from up-and-coming filmmaking duo Dpyx, Marcy Boyle and Rachel Holzman, who crafted a blisteringly taut and thoughtful indie crime thriller with a palpable sense of tension from start to finish. Seoul, South Korea — Along with the now inevitable galaxy of stars promoting blockbusters from across Asia, this year's Busan International Film Festival will screen a North Korean film for the first time in almost a decade as well as six classic Afghan movies that were hidden in a wall to save them from the Taliban.
The continent's showcase film festival, a glitzy nine-day affair that opens Thursday, has become a way for Asian nations such as China and especially South Korea to highlight their rise in the world pop culture scene. This year's fest will even take a break from film for a performance by South Korean rapper Psy, who galloped to global fame with his song "Gangnam Style."
But films from two nations not normally on the radar of regional cinephiles are also drawing attention.

Pittsfield, Mass. — James Taylor is out to prove he can do more than write a catchy tune.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is taking up acting after more than four decades in the music industry. Taylor is to play Bob Cratchit next month in a Massachusetts' theater group's annual performance of "A Christmas Carol."
Kate Maguire is artistic director of the Berkshire Theatre Group. She tells The Berkshire Eagle () she had to coax the 63-year-old Taylor into taking the role. Taylor's wife, Kim, is returning for her second year as Mrs. Cratchit. Their two sons are also in the production. http://bit.ly/tjda8W
Maguire says she that to persuade Taylor, she told him how much it meant to her to perform on stage with her own daughter.
The Taylor family has a home in the Berkshires.
