Black Country Communion — the supergroup made up of acclaimed musicians Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian — have announced their fifth studio album, aptly titled V. Ahead of its June 14th release, the band has released the lead single, “Stay Free.”
The upcoming LP marks Black Country Communion’s first album in seven years, following 2017’s Bcciv. It was produced by Kevin Shirley, who has helmed all five of the the band’s albums.
Shirley stated, “For a band that started out as a collection of the best practitioners of their instruments, they very quickly found a unique sound. This time around, it has more purpose, the riffs are tougher, and there are hooks! Yes, hooks! It’s the most cohesive record, full of soul and grit, and I think this is the one that’s going to be the benchmark for Black Country Communion.”
Hughes added, “In my opinion,...

On the heels of their Biblical single “The Writing on the Wall,” Iron Maiden have announced Senjutsu, their 17th studio album and the band’s first in six years.
Senjutsu, out September 3rd, will be a double album with a running time just shy of 82 minutes. The album was recorded in Paris with the band’s longtime producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Steve Harris. The Japanese title loosely translates into “tactics and strategy,” and the samurai-inspired artwork was created by Mark Wilkinson from an idea by Harris.

Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith has joined forces with guitarist Richie Kotzen, best known for stints in Poison and Mr. Big, for a bluesy, hard-rock collaboration they’ve dubbed Smith/Kotzen. The artists will drop a self-titled release on March 26th, and they’re previewing it with “Taking My Chances,” which shows off how their sensibilities blend as Smith’s bluesy licks complement Kotzen’s shredding and husky vocals.

"Prodigies come few & far between. I saw him take an audience apart." Paramount has debuted an official trailer for music documentary Guitar Man, telling the life story of legendary Bluesman Joe Bonamassa. Directed by Philippe Klose & Kevin Shirley, Guitar Man showcases Bonamassa's astounding talent from his childhood as a "wunderkind" discovered and mentored by Blues legend B.B. King. At the age of only 43, Bonamassa has an illustrious career spanning over three decades. Rock supergroups are often a collaboration amongst musicians when one or more of their respective bands goes belly up. Sometimes, however, they are formed when musicians are taking time away from being awesome in their ‘day job’ to be awesome elsewhere. This brings us to Black Country Communion, a supergroup made up of Glenn Hughes ( ‘the voice of rock’ of Deep Purple fame), Jason Bonham (son of late Led Zeppelin drummer), Derek Sherinian (formerly of Dream Theater), and the new blues king, Joe Bonamassa.
As much of a fan as I am on Glenn Hughes -- Deep Purple’s Burn is without question one of the greatest rock albums of all time and You Are The Music…We’re Just The Band by his first band Trapeze is one...

It was over 40 years when "the voice of rock" Glenn Hughes was at the epicenter of the rock explosion from middle England. He found success with the blues rock band Trapeze and went on to join Deep Purple and Black Sabbath (on the Seventh Star album, technically a Tony Iommi solo project) and sell countless albums under his own name.
He has now found yet another winning combination in his latest band Black Country Communion. He talked with me, while still in his rock star PJs, just before Bcc heads out on tour. He immediately radiates cool and positive vibes. “Just letting the dog’s out. What’s going on, mate?”
Geeks of Doom: How did Black Country Communion come together?
Glenn Hughes: Joe [Bonamassa] and I were playing at the House of Blues about 18 months ago. Kevin Shirley [Bcc producer] was there and he thought it was insanely good and he thought Joe and I,...
