Since her work on “The Dropout” has already brought her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award, Amanda Seyfried only needs a Screen Actors Guild Award in order to complete her major industry TV prize sweep. Based on the fact that no woman who has been nominated for all four awards and won the Emmy first has failed to win the other three, her path to victory is arguably clearer than that of any other 2023 SAG Award contender. If she is successful on this final bid, she will be the 12th woman to win both a lead Emmy and a SAG Award for the same TV movie or miniseries performance.

After nearly two decades of having her individual performances overlooked by Screen Actors Guild Awards voters, Amanda Seyfried has finally earned solo recognition from the organization thanks to her work on Hulu’s “The Dropout.” Her Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress bid for the show comes 10 years after her only other SAG Awards outing as a “Les Misérables” film ensemble member. Given that she has already collected an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award this season, she stands a strong chance of becoming the sixth female star of a non-continuing program to complete a modern industry awards sweep.
“The Dropout,” which is adapted from Rebecca Jarvis’ six-part podcast of the same name, tells the true story of how former chemical engineering student Elizabeth Holmes (played by Seyfried) fraudulently collected millions of dollars to fund her health technology company, Theranos. What eventually led to her 11-year prison sentence...

Months after achieving what was widely considered an easy Primetime Emmy win for Hulu’s “The Dropout,” Amanda Seyfried is now poised to sail through the rest of this awards season as the recipient of every major Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress prize. By the end of February, she can pick up Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild trophies for her portrayal of biotech fraudster Elizabeth Holmes and thus emulate five other women who have each collected all four pieces of hardware for a single non-continuing program performance.
The very first Critics Choice Award for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress was bestowed upon Julianne Moore in 2012 for her work as Sarah Palin in “Game Change.” She then similarly triumphed at the Emmys, Golden Globes and SAG Awards over the next seven months. She remains the only woman to receive all four of these awards for a...

Nearly a quarter century into her acting career, Amanda Seyfried has received just one SAG Award nomination, which she shared with her fellow “Les Misérables” ensemble members. After notably missing out on a solo bid for “Mank” in 2021, her first taste of individual attention from the acting guild appears imminent thanks to her powerhouse performance as Elizabeth Holmes on the Hulu limited series “The Dropout.” Having just earned a Best Movie/Limited Actress Emmy for the series, she could now become the 12th woman to leverage such a win into a SAG Award victory.
According to Gold Derby’s SAG Awards predictions, Seyfried is in a secure first place position in this season’s Best TV Movie/Limited Actress race. Included among her likeliest challengers are Lily James, Julia Garner and “The White Lotus: Sicily” duo Jennifer Coolidge (third) and Aubrey Plaza (fourth). Coolidge was just nominated here last year...

In the little-remembered 1950 noir “The Damned Don’t Cry,” Joan Crawford plays a Texan housewife whose grief for her late son spurs her to make a new life for herself in the urban underworld. Fyzal Boulifa’s exquisite new film of the same title is named expressly for that Crawford vehicle, but is neither a remake nor a direct homage. Rather, it remixes the narrative components of that film and others of its ilk into the kind of new-school-old-school heart-tugger — one might say tearjerker if its characters weren’t, true to its title, stoically dry-eyed throughout — that might have been designed for the shoulder-padded diva were she alive in 2022 and, perhaps more crucially, of Moroccan heritage.
Charting the turbulent relationship between a single mother and her teenage son on the destitute fringes of Tangier society, the second feature from BAFTA-nominated British-Moroccan filmmaker Boulifa sees him shifting focus to his North African...

Universal TV is developing a 'reimagining' of the 1969 Rod Sterling horror/supernatural anthology TV series "Night Gallery", from Jeff Davis ("Teen Wolf"):
"...the new series will explore the dangers of social media and modern nightmares in the digital age..."
The original "Night Gallery" aired 1969-1973, featuring stories of horror and the macabre, with Rod Serling of "Twilight Zone" fame as both on-air host and major contributor of scripts.
Serling appeared in an art gallery setting and introduced the macabre tales that made up each episode by unveiling paintings that depicted the stories. His intro usually was:
"Each is a collector's item in its own way—not because of any special artistic quality, but because each captures on a canvas, suspended in time and space, a frozen moment of a nightmare."
The series was introduced with a pilot airing November 8, 1969, featuring the TV directorial debut of Steven Spielberg, starring Joan Crawford...
