After solving Tim Kono's (Julian Cihi) and Zoe Cassidy's (Olivia Reis) murders — not to mention outing Teddy Diams' (Nathan Lane) criminal enterprise — the "Only Murders in the Building" sleuths finally got the chance to celebrate their investigative achievements. Of course, as soon as the crime-solving trio popped a bottle of champagne in Season 2, Mabel (Selena Gomez) discovers the body of the dreaded Arconia's building board president. Worse, whoever killed Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) sets up Mabel, Oliver (Martin Short), and Charles (Steve Martin) to take the fall.
As "Only Murders in the Building" nears its Season 2 finale, it's fair to say that this sophomore outing has been a vast improvement overall. That's not to say Season 1 failed in its comedy-mystery approach: there's a good reason why the second season received 17 Emmy nominations, whereas Season 1 snagged none. The cast's chemistry and comedic timing soar in its latest season, showcasing a...

Siddhartha Khosla has a hat trick of Emmy nominations this year, two of which are for “Only Murders in the Building,” for composing the addictive theme and the show’s score. For the latter category, he submitted “The Boy from 6B,” the standout Season 1 episode told from the perspective of Theo (James Caverly), who’s deaf, with no dialogue until one sentence at the end. And at one point in the process, there was going to be no music in the episode either.
“Julie Monroe, our editor was key in this. Cherien Dabis, who directed the episode — key. We all work together very early on in terms of finding what it was,” Khosla tells Gold Derby at our Meet the Experts: Composers panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). “At one point, there was gonna be no music. It was just going to be sound design. But then as we were cutting and seeing picture,...

One of last season’s best episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” was “The Boy From 6B.” Said boy was Theo Dimas (James Caverly), the Deaf son of podcast sponsor and dip entrepreneur Teddy Dimas (Nathan Lane). Theo moved through the bustling world of New York not only as a deaf man, but a man with a secret. Told like a silent movie, “The Boy From 6B” was heartfelt and incredibly authentic, especially if one is a Deaf or disabled person living with parents who aren’t. Teddy and Theo’s relationship is fraught, both with their own personal demons, but also an unspoken fear of disappointing the other.
We haven’t seen the Dimases much in Season 2 but this week’s episode “Flipping the Pieces” brings Theo Dimas back to the fold, pairing him up with Mabel (Selena Gomez) as everyone continues to look for Bunny’s killer.

Nathan Lane just made Primetime Emmy Awards history with his record sixth Best Comedy Guest Actor nomination, for “Only Murders in the Building, and now has a total of seven bids, but these marks just mean one thing for the three-time Tony winner. “I’m old,” Lane deadpanned to Gold Derby (watch above). “It means I’ve gotten very old, older than I’ve ever wanted to be. It’s a lovely thing. I mean, it sounds impressive until you actually realize I haven’t actually won. But it’s nice to be invited to the party and be part of the conversation for sure. It has a lot to do with the quality of the show, of ‘Only Murders in the Building.'”

Editor’s Note: This article will discuss spoilers for the first six episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 2.
The arrival of “Only Murders in the Building” Episode 6 brings us over halfway through the season. And while there are three more episodes to make an argument for a killer, odds are you have your theories. Like last season, some characters seem like obvious red herrings (Alice?). Maybe it’s a character we’ve known for years, like cat-lover Howard Morris. It can’t be Amy Schumer playing herself, could it?
Let’s look back at the season so far and see where we stand on who killed Arconia owner Bunny Folger.
1. Alice
Alice (Cara Delevingne) feels like the biggest red herring in the bunch, especially after last week’s episode where Oliver (Martin Short) revealed all her lies about being a wealthy rich kid. But at the end of...

This recap of Only Murders in the Building contains spoilers for season 1.
One of the more eclectic concepts to come out last fall was Hulu’s engrossing and enjoyable Only Murders in the Building. Perhaps it shouldn’t have come as a complete surprise, as the show starred bastions of comedy Steve Martin and Martin Short, and most of what they have done (especially together) is pure gold. Giving this duo a third corner of comedy is Selena Gomez, who injects the main cast with youth and millennial-appropriate sarcasm.
With the first season’s deadly enigma being solved, the three amateur sleuths didn’t get much time to celebrate, as a second hurried and horrific homicide happened within mere moments. Before they start recording the second season of their podcast and solve a second crime, let’s give you a refresher about all the twists and turns of season 1.

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 2 is imminent, just shy of a year since the first season arrived. Taking note of the trend of true crime podcasts and the audience that consumes them, the Hulu show follows a trio of New Yorkers as they attempt to solve a murder mystery in their apartment building.
Starring Selena Gomez as Mabel, Steve Martin as Charles Haden-Savatge and Martin Short as Oliver Putnam, “Only Murders in the Building” combined thrilling suspense with moments of comic relief in its first season. The three Arconia residents bonded over Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) work on true crime podcasting, taking it one step further to investigate the murder of their neighbor Tim Kono.
But given that cliffhanger ending, here’s a recap of what happened in Season 1 before Season 2 debuts on June 28.

Last August Hulu released the first season of “Only Murders in the Building,” a whodunit that blended old-school detective storytelling with fresh characters expertly played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The first season had a lot to recommend. The camaraderie between the trio of leads was infectious, with each individualizing themselves so well that viewers could be a Mab-iac or a Putnut depending on which character one loved the most. It also had some incredibly sharp writing that led to a bevy of one-liners, not to mention one of the best episodes of television of the year (“The Boy From 6B”).
With Season 2 set to arrive at the end of this month it’s time for a quick refresher on what happened last season. Who was at the heart of the central mystery? And was the Arconia murderer ever caught? We have you covered as we answer...

This is Theo's world, and we're all just living in it -- all of us except for Tim and Zoe, that is.
Only Murders In the Building Season 1 Episode 7 is, by far and away, the best episode of an already very strong season. It might be one of my favorite episodes of any show I've ever watched, honestly.
There's more to the episode than just how clever it was -- we've got more answers than we know what to do with.
I Knew Theo was up to something. I've been saying this since the beginning! He was too subtly conspicuous to be a red herring.
This show is way more intricate than it gets credit for. Everything has been meticulously plotted out. Every shot means something. It's so delicious to watch a show like this, with every morsel potentially a key to solving the mystery.
I sat upright the moment the episode began,...

Behind the Scenes of the ‘Very Choreographed Ballet’ of ‘Only Murders in the Building’s’ Asl Episode
When director Cherien Dabis was prepping to helm the near-silent seventh episode of Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” actor James Caverly, who is deaf, steered her toward the 2007 documentary “Through Deaf Eyes” as research. In it, there is a clip that offers an example of what a person on the spectrum of hearing can experience audibly. To Dabis, it “sounded like a film reel whirring,” she recalls. That became the base of the soundscape for scenes told from the perspective of Caverly’s character Theo.
“He challenged me to say, ‘What is going to be different about the scenes from Theo’s point of view versus the scenes outside of Theo’s point of view?'” Dabis recalls about working with Caverly. “I really had to delineate the two worlds.”
Dabis, along with supervising sound editor Mathew Waters and their team, did this by using ambient noise for...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Episode 5 of “Only Murders in the Building,” titled “Twist.”)
“Only Murders in the Building” revealed one of the only — Ok, that’s a lie — mysteries that matters to Charles (Steve Martin) on Tuesday’s episode: the identity of Tie-Dye Guy. But more importantly, it also saw Charles and Oliver (Martin Short) learn the truth about Mabel’s (Selena Gomez) connection to the late Tim Kono (Julian Cihi) — and Tie-Dye Guy, who turned out to be her old pal and recently released convict, Oscar (Aaron Dominguez) — and have to reconcile with their feelings about her duplicity.
It’s not until the final moments of Episode 5, titled “Twist,” that Charles and Oliver actually catch up with Mabel and Oscar, who have gone to follow a lead about someone Tim was supposed to meet before his death and find out why he was collecting all that jewelry Mabel found in his apartment.
