Entertainment executive Liz Jenkins has been named to the newly created role of chief business officer for the NBCUniversal Studio Group. The former COO of Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine joins the company with an expansive title to oversee strategy and business operations, reporting to studio chairman and NBCU Chief Content Officer Donna Langley.
“Liz has established herself as an industry leader with a deep understanding of the complexities of our business, and her unique perspective and varied experience fuel her drive for innovation,” Langley said of the hire. “She is a builder; whether it’s brands, individual projects, or culture. As the Studio Group continues to develop and adapt to the new industry climate, Liz will be an incredible partner to me and the broader NBCUniversal team.”
Jenkins will serve as “connective tissue” within the company’s content business, which Langley assumed control of in a July reorganization led by Comcast president Mike Cavanagh.

After six years as head of corporate communications, NBCUniversal veteran Hilary Smith will shift to a new post leading the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts.
Smith will continue to oversee NBCU’s corporate communications for the near term until a successor is named. She already steered NBCU’s social impact programs. The decision to expand the role of corporate social responsibility into a full-time job is a sign of NBCUniversal’s heightened focus on such issues. Parent company Comcast has made a three-year, $100 million pledge to support social justice issues, which gives Smith a big budget for planning good works, company volunteer efforts and general philanthropy.
Adam Miller, NBCU’s executive vice president and Comcast’s chief administrative officer, said in a staff memo announcing the promotion that Smith’s track record over the past few years made her the natural choice.

Longtime NBCUniversal executive Cindy Gardner has been elevated to the newly-created role of Executive Vice President, West Coast.
The venerable communications lead previously served as EVP of global comms for Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, working closely with chairman Donna Langley.
In a Tuesday memo from NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell and chief administration officer Adam Miller, the pair said Gardner will now collaborate “with West Coast business leaders to drive strategies that help grow our business, be the preferred home for top talent, elevate and protect our reputation, and maintain and enhance our external relationships.”
Shell and Miller underscored Gardner’s deep knowledge of the company’s California assets — including the Universal Pictures lot, theme park, and broadcast operations — as factors in her elevation. She will report directly to Miller with a dotted line to Shell.
