New Delhi, June 8 (Ians) New Zealand speedster Trent Boult committed to being available for the national team for part of the playing programme despite declining a central contract and therefore has been offered a casual playing agreement.
In August of last year, Boult and New Zealand reached an agreement to mutually release his central contract. This arrangement granted the 33-year-old the opportunity to participate in different domestic leagues worldwide and prioritise spending quality time with his family.
“Boult, while again declining a central contract, has committed to being available for the BlackCaps for part of the playing programme and, on that basis, has been offered a casual playing agreement,” New Zealand Cricket said in a release.
With Boult turning out for the national team, it looks highly likely he will represent New Zealand at this year’s Icc Cricket World Cup in India, starting from October 5.
“We’re having positive conversations with Trent.

Auckland, June 8 (Ians) Fast-bowler Adam Milne has been offered a New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) central contract for the first time in five years.
Milne’s elevation to the list comes off the back of his most productive international season, in which he appeared 16 times for the Black Caps (11 T20Is and five ODIs) claiming 24 wickets at an average of 24, including a career-best 5-26 in the second T20I against Sri Lanka, the third best T20I figures by a New Zealander.
The 31-year-old, who made his international debut in 2010, was part of the Black Caps’ past two Icc T20 World Cup campaigns.
Coach Gary Stead said Milne’s offer of a central contract was well-deserved and reflected his strong and ongoing commitment to play international cricket for New Zealand, the New Zealand Cricket said in a report on its website on Thursday.

New Delhi, May 18 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor said if it was up to him, he would have brought veteran opener Martin Guptill in the top four of the Odi side ahead of this year’s World Cup, citing the experience he would bring to the team for the mega event.
Guptill, widely considered as one of New Zealand’s best-ever white-ball openers, last played in an Odi for the Blackcaps in September 2022. Later, he was released from his Nzc central contract after being dropped from the white-ball series against India last year not getting to play a single game in the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Since then, he has been busy playing various T20 leagues like the Big Bash League (Bbl) in Australia. Guptill’s tally currently stands at 7346 runs at an average of 41.73 in 198 ODIs, with a highest individual score of 237 not out.

New Delhi, Jan 26 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Craig Cumming believes young opener Finn Allen is “not producing enough” runs currently following his struggles in recent Odi series against India.
Allen, 23, debuted for New Zealand in ODIs in 2022 and notched up some impressive knocks against Ireland and West Indies. But of late, he hasn’t been at his best in the format, making scores of 29, 1 and 25 in the tour of Pakistan, followed by registering scores of 40 and consecutive ducks in the 3-0 series defeat in India.
“I’m concerned around the style of cricketers we’re trying to produce. You’ve just got to look at (Tuesday) night and when it comes to cricketers within our own country and the way we’re trying to produce it, I want to produce Devon Conway’s, I want to produce Kane Williamson’s; the guys that have got craft and can bat...

New Delhi, Jan 17 (Ians) Young wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, who was given his maiden call-up to the Test team for the first two matches against Australia, has recalled the moment when he revealed this news to his father.
Speaking of his maiden Test call-up and excitement to play red-ball cricket in a conversation with Shubhman Gill, Kishan revealed that when he broke the news of his Test call, his father said, “Test has the real challenges. You have to work hard like this”.
“I am very happy. Whenever I was doing well in white-ball cricket my father used to say that Test cricket is the real deal. Auckland, Dec 19 (Ians) Left-handed batter Mark Chapman on Monday was awarded his first New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) central contract, filling in vacancy left by veteran opener Martin Guptill’s departure in November.
Chapman has played 22 T20Is and five ODIs for New Zealand since making his debut in 2018, making 381 runs and 111 runs respectively. He has also been a member of the New Zealand team in last two Icc Men’s T20 World Cup campaigns.
Before this, he had played 21 matches for Hong Kong. He has also played 128 matches for his domestic team Auckland. A powerful and inventive left-hand batsman, Chapman offers an option with his left-arm orthodox spin bowling and is a highly rated fielder in the New Zealand cricket circuit.

Chattogram, Dec 10 (Ians) India stand-in skipper K.L. Rahul was in absolute praise of Ishan Kishan’s record double-century in the third Odi against Bangladesh, saying the left-handed opener really grabbed his chance with both hands.
In a dead rubber, Kishan got to open the batting as skipper Rohit Sharma flew home to see a specialist after suffering a blow to his left thumb in the second Odi on Wednesday. He made the chance count by slamming the fastest double-century in the history of men’s Odi cricket, off just 126 balls, to lead India to a crushing 227-run win at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on a sunny Saturday.
Kishan also added 290 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, who made his 44th Odi hundred, and his first in the format since August 2019, also his 72nd international hundred through a 91-ball 113. The mammoth stand between Kishan and Kohli is India...

New Delhi, Dec 10 (Ians) It is very rare that Virat Kohli scores a century in Odi cricket and is completely overshadowed by the heroics of another batter in the same innings for India. At the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (Zacs) in Chattogram on Saturday, Kohli’s 113 off 91 was not just overshadowed but was also reduced to being a footnote by Ishan Kishan.

Dhaka, Dec 7 (Ians) Captain Rohit Sharma became the first Indian, and just the second batter world-wide, in international cricket to hit 500 sixes during the second Odi against Bangladesh, here on Wednesday.
Walking out to bat at No.9 after injuring his hand while in the field, Rohit put up a strong fight late in the run chase. He played a sensational knock (51 not out off 28 balls) with three fours and five sixes, to give India a chance but in the end, failed to get them over the line.
Rohit’s tally of 500 international sixes is bettered by only West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who has 533 sixes. No other Indian batter has more than 400 sixes. Ms Dhoni with 359 sixes is the closest to Rohit among Indian players.
The likes of Shahid Afridi (476), Brendon McCullum (398), Martin Guptill (383) are the third, fourth and fifth place respectively in the list of most number of six hitters in international cricket.

Christchurch, Nov 30 (Ians) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri praised young New Zealand opener Finn Allen for capitalising on the loose deliveries from the visitors’ bowling attack after taking time to settle at the crease in the abandoned third Odi at Hagley Oval.
Allen, an ultra-aggressive right-handed opener, was quiet for the first three overs in New Zealand’s chase of 220. But after that, he couldn’t be kept quiet, clipping a down leg delivery from Arshdeep Singh for his first boundary of the match.
After that, there was no stopping Allen in getting boundaries and he got his fifty when he flat-batted a six over long-off off Washington Sundar. After pulling Umran Malik through fine leg in the 17th over, Allen tried to reach out to a short ball.
But he toe-ended a cut to cover, ending the 97-run opening partnership as he fell for 57 off 54 balls, his fourth fifty in the 50-over format.

Melbourne, Nov 25 (Ians) Just two days after he was released from his New Zealand central contract, veteran opener Martin Guptill has joined Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (Bbl).
Guptill becomes the third player from New Zealand to land a Bbl contract after left-arm pacer Trent Boult was drafted by Melbourne Stars through the inaugural overseas player draft in August and pace all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme retired from international cricket to play for Adelaide Strikers.
“I’m excited to be joining the Renegades and am looking forward to being part of the Big Bash this season. This is a new challenge for me and it will be nice to call Melbourne home for the summer. I’ll be trying to make as many runs as I can to help drive the Renegades back up the ladder and push for team success,” said Guptill on his association with the club.

Mount Maunganui, Nov 20 (Ians) Young New Zealand opener Finn Allen feels the prospect of going up against India in the ongoing white-ball series is pretty exciting for him and his team. Allen’s sparking show and his ability to clear boundaries has meant New Zealand have preferred to stick with him ahead of veteran opener Martin Guptill.
“It is massive. We did not get to play them in the (T20) World Cup and it is pretty exciting to go up against them in the home series. Unfortunately, there was no play at Wellington, and hopefully we are getting some action here. It is going to be an exciting series with a sold-out crowd at the Mount coming in as well,” said Allen in a pre-match video provided by Prime Video.
Allen showed his big-hitting prowess when he hit a blistering 43 against Australia in Men’s T20 World Cup in Sydney.

Wellington, Nov 18 (Ians) New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson believes that there will be plenty of chances for players in the side to shine during their white-ball series against India. In the absence of veterans Martin Guptill and Trent Boult, New Zealand are aiming to give opportunities to young opener Finn Allen and pacer Adam Milne.
“I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities for (New Zealand) guys to shine. The likes of Adam Milne were in the T20 World Cup squad but didn’t get an opportunity, so this is a good time to get them some game time. Always nice for them to get some game time and keep developing as cricketers and test themselves against the best,” said Williamson to broadcasters after the first T20I was abandoned due to rain at Wellington.
Williamson also felt that the young players in the Indian T20I set-up will be big stars in future.

Wellington, Nov 18 (Ians) The T20I series opener between New Zealand and India at Sky Stadium, Wellington has been washed out due to persistent rain on Friday, without a ball being bowled and the toss was not even held.
As per the weather forecast for Wellington, there was 90-100 per cent rain forecasted during the match time, which led to covers remaining on the pitch all the time. Though rain stopped for a few minutes, it came back again, heavier than it was, leading to players indulging in a session of football-volleyball indoors.
The latest cut-off time for the match to begin was 9:46pm local time, with a minimum of five overs per side needed to constitute an official T20I match. But heavy rain washed out that prospect as well, leading to Friday’s match being abandoned.

Auckland, Nov 18 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Corey Anderson believes someone like veteran opener Martin Guptill, who was not included in the white-ball side to play the tough series against India, opens the door for him to play in the American Major League Cricket (Mlc), which recently announced its 2023 debut date.
Mlc has announced the dates for its inaugural season in the summer of 2023, a competition that will bring many of the world’s leading cricketers to the United States for the first time. The 2023 season will feature 19 matches to be played over 18 days, building up to the first-ever Mlc championship final to take place on July 30, 2023.
Six teams from major metropolitan areas — representing Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Seattle and New York City — will each boast multiple global stars on their rosters alongside the best talent based in the United States, playing the T20 format of the game.

Wellington, Nov 17 (Ians) After being beaten in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup in Australia, a new-look India will be back in action in the shortest format against New Zealand in the T20I series opener at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Friday.
With stand-in head coach Vvs Laxman insisting that the Hardik Pandya-led side, without many regular stars, will be looking to play fearless and flexible cricket during the series, it also kickstarts the road towards the 2024 T20 World Cup.
After going out of the tournament in the Super 12 stage in 2021, India’s adopted an ultra-attacking approach with the bat, which gave them results in the bilateral series. But by the time T20 World Cup 2022 came in Australia, they were back to conservative batting approach, especially in the first six overs, which paled badly in comparison to England’s swashbuckling play with both bat and ball, eventually...

New Delhi, Nov 15 (Ians) Though a new-look and depleted Indian cricket team will be taking on New Zealand in a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs starting from November 18, New Zealand will also be without some established players.
The Black Caps captain Kane Williamson despite the new faces in the squad, India are still a formidable side and he is looking forward to the opportunity of playing them.
He said the absence of players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be felt the talent and depth in India mean the series is going to be of the highest standard.
“Some players resting and bringing in new players and will that make the nature of the cricket different? And I don’t think it will, although obviously, the likes of the players that aren’t here are big names and big draw cards. But the talent...

Auckland, Nov 15 (Ians) New Zealand have left out two of their most experienced players — opener Martin Guptill and left-arm quick Trent Boult — for their white-ball series at home against India, with Kane Williamson continuing to lead the side in the three T20Is and three Odi series beginning at Wellington on November 18.
Following New Zealand’s loss at the semifinal stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and their runners-up finish in the previous edition of the tournament in the UAE last year, New Zealand Cricket’s (Nzc) transition into a new era has commenced with the duo being left out and rising star Finn Allen primed to face Rohit Sharma’s side for the first time after being confirmed in both the white-ball squads for the fixture.
The Kiwis have opted to use 23-year-old Allen ahead of Guptill at the top of the order in recent times. Boult,...

Sydney, Nov 8 (Ians) A resurgent Pakistan and clinical New Zealand, who have had contrasting campaigns so far, will lock horns in a mouth-watering first semifinal of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), here on Wednesday, with a common goal to book the berth in the all-important final of the mega event.
The Babaz Azam-led side lost their first two matches of the T20 World Cup against India and Zimbabwe and were on the verge of getting knocked out. However, they performed when it mattered, got a lifeline and now have a golden opportunity to go all the way in the tournament.
On the other hand, New Zealand began their campaign in style by thrashing the hosts Australia and eventually won four out of five Super 12 matches. They just lost to England in a high-quality contest but otherwise have been quite clinical in their efforts so far.

Adelaide, Nov 2 (Ians) Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the all-time leading run-scorer in the men’s T20 World Cup history during his team’s Super 12 match against Bangladesh, here.
Kohli reached the milestone when he crossed 16 runs in the seventh over of India’s innings, going past former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s record tally of 1016 runs. The Indian batter now has 1065 runs with an average of 88.75 and a strike rate of more than 132.46 in T20 World Cups.

Sydney, Oct 21 (Ians) The Super 12 stage of the Men’s T20 World Cup will open up with the re-match of the 2021 final at Dubai between Australia and New Zealand at a full-house Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg) on Saturday.
As another chapter of the trans-tasman rivalry awaits cricket fans, the eyes of both Australia and New Zealand will be on the skies apart from the pitch and on-field conditions with 90 rain forecast threatening to disrupt the proceedings.
“We haven’t seen the pitch either. It was covered all this morning. We won’t confirm an 11 just yet because, if it’s short, then it will be likely to change. So we just have to wait and see tomorrow much closer to the match and have a look at the pitch,” said New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson on rain being a factor in the pre-match press conference.

Christchurch, Oct 14 (Ians) New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson lauded off-spin all-rounder Michael Bracewell and opening batter Finn Allen for playing “really valuable” roles within the T20I side ahead of Men’s T20 World Cup starting in Australia.
Despite New Zealand losing the final of T20I tri-series to Pakistan by three wickets at the Hagley Oval on Friday, Bracewell and Allen have emerged as bright spots for the hosts.
Bracewell picked eight wickets in five matches at a miserly economy rate of 4.94 and took the Player of the Series award, adding more laurels to his rise as a utility player for New Zealand.
Allen, on the other hand, justified the call taken by the hosts to open the batting with him instead of Martin Guptill by giving explosive starts, seen from his strike-rate of 145 and also included 62 against Pakistan in the league stage.

Lahore, Sep 30 (Ians) Pakistan skipper Babar Azam on Friday equalled Virat Kohli’s record of the fastest man to reach 3,000 runs in cricket’s shortest format during his team’s sixth T20I of the seven-match series against England, here.
The 27-year-old became the fifth men’s player and eighth overall to achieve the milestone in the format. He also became the first Pakistan batter to 3000 T20I runs during his half-century (87 not out off 59) against England in the sixth T20I at Gaddafi Stadium.
With Mohammad Rizwan rested for the match, the onus was on Azam to carry the Pakistan innings. The skipper responded by donning the anchor’s role even as Pakistan lost a couple of early wickets in the Powerplay.
Moving to 25 off 19 balls inside the first six overs, Azam completed his 29th score of fifty or more in the format. He finished on an unbeaten 87 off 59 balls,...

Mumbai, Sep 29 (Ians) Charismatic India batter Suryakumar Yadav’s string of fine performances in the last few series has seen him became the highest run-scorer for India in a calendar year in T20Is, which bodes well for Rohit Sharma’s team as it aims to reclaim the T20 World Cup crown it won nearly 15 years back.
During the opening T20I against South Africa at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, Suryakumar smashed another unbeaten half-century (50 off 33 balls) as India defeated the visitors by eight wickets with 20 balls to spare in a low-scoring game.
Chasing 107 for victory, opener Kl Rahul’s 51 followed by Surya’s unbeaten 50 made the task of achieving the win a cakewalk and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Nagpur, Sep 24 (Ians) In a truncated eight-overs-a-side match between India and Australia at Vca Stadium, Nagpur, captain Rohit Sharma enthralled a capacity crowd by smashing four fours and as many sixes in his unbeaten 20-ball 46 with a strike rate of 230, guiding the hosts to a series-levelling six-wicket win.
Friday’s match saw Rohit bring out his trademark pulls and hooks, played with great ferocity and also surpassed New Zealand opener Martin Guptill to become the leading six-hitting cricketer in men’s T20Is.
Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar was thoroughly impressed by Rohit’s blazing knock and leading the charge with the bat in the chase of 91, pointing out that the right-hander played with a measured approach and was selective in his shot selection.
“What you saw with Rohit today (Friday’s match) was a measured approach. It wasn’t anything where he was looking to defend, but he was being a lot more selective.

Nagpur, Sep 24 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma on Friday blasted a 20-ball 46 not out and became the leading six-hitter in T20I cricket during his team’s second T20I truncated to eight-over-a-side due to wet outfield against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, here.
Rohit, the leading run-scorer in T20Is, went past New Zealand opener Martin Guptill’s tally of sixes to go to the top of the six hitters’ chart in T20Is. The India captain, who smashed two sixes in the first over from Josh Hazlewood in a run chase of 91 in eight overs, now has 176 sixes to his name in this format.
Guptill with 172 sixes and Chris Gayle with 124 sixes follow him. Virat Kohli is the only other Indian batter with more than 100 T20I sixes, currently sitting on 104 sixes in the format.

Auckland, Sep 20 (Ians) New Zealand have made three changes to the squad for the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia next month from the side that featured in the World Cup final last year in the UAE, bringing in Lockie Ferguson, Michael Bracewell and Finn Allen in place of Kyle Jamieson, Todd Astle and Tim Seifert.
Two players who recently declined the New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) central contract — Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham — also find a place in the squad and so does Finn Allen, who is one of the newest players to bag a central contract.
The side once again will be captained by batting stalwart Kane Williamson, who will be at the helm of the T20 World Cup team for the third time, according to Icc.

Cairns (Australia), Sep 6 (Ians) A sublime 158-run partnership between Alex Carey and Cameron Green and a four-wicket haul by Glenn Maxwell helped Australia register a two-wicket win in the opening One-Day International match against New Zealand in Cairns on Tuesday.
Joining forces at 5/44 in response to New Zealand’s 232, Carey (85 off 99 balls) and Green (89 not out off 92 balls) flourished on a Cazalys Stadium pitch where almost every other batter had faced issues.
Although hampered by cramps in his left leg, a hobbling Green powered on as he and Adam Zampa’s 26-run ninth-wicket partnership got Australia across the line by two wickets in a tense finish.
But it wasn’t a comfortable two-wicket win for Australia — Carey’s dismissal with 31 runs required prompted a mini-collapse with Maxwell (two off eight) and Mitch Starc (one off three) following in quick succession. There was a seven-minute break in play with 23 runs left...

Cairns, Sep 6 (Ians) Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s stunning catch to dismiss Martin Guptill in the first One-day International at the Cazaly’s Stadium here on Tuesday has once again cemented his credentials as one of the best fielders in world cricket.
The limited-overs specialist took a stunner of a catch in the fifth over bowled by pace bowler Mitchell Starc, as he dived to his left to latch on to a dipping ball to get rid of dangerous opener Guptill for just six runs.
The video posted by Cricket Australia has since gone viral.
Maxwell just took off from his fielding position at backward point to take a one-handed pluck from thin air. Starc bowled a fuller delivery angling away on off, and Guptill, looking to push it, got a thick outside edge, with the ball flying to the left of backward point. Maxwell jumped to his left to...

Dubai, Sep 4 (Ians) Star India batter Virat Kohli on Sunday equalled the record for most fifties in T20Is against Pakistan with a half-century during the Super Four phase of Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium, here.
Kohli dropped anchor for India from No.3, compiling his 32nd T20I fifty (60 off 44) to lead India to 181/7 in 20 overs.
After Rohit Sharma and K.L Rahul put on a blazing fifty-stand for the opening wicket, Kohli walked in and started positively, moving to 15 off 10 balls despite India losing Rahul shortly after Rohit’s wicket.
With Suryakumar Yadav also falling cheaply, Kohli resorted to a more restrained approach, running quickly between the wickets and keeping the scoreboard ticking. He reached his half-century with a six off Mohammad Hasnain and finished on 60 after he was run out by a direct hit from Asif Ali in the final over.
The fifty was Kohli’s fourth against Pakistan in T20Is.

Christchurch, Aug 24 (Ians) New Zealand on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the three-match Odi series against Australia starting September 6 in Cairns, with fast bowler Matt Henry making a comeback after recovering from his rib injury.
Henry’s inclusion is the only change from the squad, who claimed New Zealand’s first one-day series win in the West Indies earlier this week, with spinner Ish Sodhi making way. With Sodhi missing out on selection, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell will play the role of spin-bowling all-rounders in the squad.
Kane Williamson, resuming the captaincy after missing the final two games against West Indies in Barbados, said the squad couldn’t wait to head across the Tasman.
“It’s a great rivalry we have with Australia; it’s always a huge occasion for the fans, and the team really look forward to it,” said Williamson.

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 22 (Ians) West Indies opener Kyle Mayers’ fine century went in vain as New Zealand, aided by superb batting from Martin Guptill, Devon Conway, Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell, won the deciding One-day International by five wickets to seal the series 2-1 at the Kensington Oval on Monday (Ist).
New Zealand won the toss and sent the home side in to bat little realising that Kyle Mayers would aid them to reach a mammoth 300-plus in the allotted 50 overs. With opener Shai Hope (51) and skipper Nicholas Pooran (91) too in fine form, the hosts managed to post an imposing 301/8.
The first West Indies wicket to fall was that of Shai Hope with the score 173/1 in the 35th over. Hope’s opening partner Mayers then notched up a century himself with 105 off 111 balls before falling two deliveries later with the score still on 173.

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 18 (Ians) West Indies snapped their nine-match losing streak in ODIs with a comfortable five-wicket win over New Zealand in the first match of the series.
On a pitch assisting the bowlers, left-arm spin all-rounder Akeal Hosein and pacer Alzarri Joseph picked three wickets each to bowl out New Zealand for just 190 in 45.2 overs.
The chase was not straightforward for the West Indies. But Shamarh Brooks made a patient 79 off 91 balls to ensure West Indies had a rare clinical performance in Odi cricket and take a 1-0 lead in three-match series.
Martin Guptill and Finn Allen stitched a 41-run opening stand in eight overs. But once they both fell in quick succession, wickets kept falling at regular intervals for New Zealand, going from 53-2 to 116-5.
If not for the contributions from Mitchell Santner (25) and Michael Bracewell (31) lower down, the score would have been much more lesser for New Zealand,...

Belfast (Ireland), Aug 18 (Ians) Ireland opener Paul Stirling made it to an elite group of T20I batters by crossing 3000 runs in the format at international level.
Stirling joined Martin Guptill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to become the fourth player to notch up 3000 runs in men’s T20Is during the fifth and final T20I against Afghanistan in Belfast on Wednesday.
The Ireland opener remains the only player from his country to make over 2000 T20I runs with the recently retired Kevin O’Brien coming in at second place with 1973 runs.
Suzie Bates, Meg Lanning and Stafanie Taylor have achieved the feat in women’s T20Is. This makes Stirling the seventh player in T20Is to cross the 3000-run barrier.

Kingston (Jamaica), Aug 17 (Ians) New Zealand batter Devon Conway has said he was a “bit shocked” when he was asked to open in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against the West Indies, and added it surprised him that he was able to give his team a good start in all the games.
“I was a little bit shocked when I got asked to open the batting, so it was a nice surprise (to score at the top of the innings),” the 31-year-old Conway said on Senz Mornings.
Conway had scores of 43, 42 and 21 while partnering with seasoned opener Martin Guptill, and together they played a key role in the Black Caps winning the series 2-1.
Conway had not played international cricket since New Zealand’s forgettable tour of England in June, where they lost all three Tests, and the batter said his comeback has “been enjoyable”.

Kingston (Jamaica), Aug 15 (Ians) Half-centuries from West Indies openers Brandon King and Shamarh Brooks helped the hosts defeat New Zealand by eight wickets and avoid a series sweep by the visitors in the third and final T20 International at Sabina Park on Monday (Ist).
King slammed 53 and his opening partner Brooks hit an unbeaten 56 as West Indies overhauled New Zealand’s score of 145/7 for the loss of just two wickets with an over to spare and earn a consolation win going into the Odi series beginning on August 17.
The Kiwi top-order all reached double figures during their respective innings, but only one batter scored more than 24 as the hosts’ bowlers put the clamps on the visitors.
Glenn Phillips looked the best of the New Zealand batters, with the No.5 smashing 41 from just 26 deliveries to help the visitors post a below-par score of 145/7 from their allotted 20 overs.

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 14 (Ians) Experienced New Zealand pace bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out of the three-match One-day International series against the West Indies due to a rib injury, dealing a huge blow to the tourists who are currently involved in a T20I series in the Caribbean.
Henry, a veteran of 60 ODIs, experienced pain in his left side during training last week and the affected area failed to improve following treatment, according to Icc.
The 30-year-old pacer will now fly back to New Zealand in the hope that he recovers in time for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy Odi series against Australia in September.
Henry’s departure will see inexperienced quick Ben Sears board the flight to the Caribbean as replacement, with the 24-year-old in line for his international Odi debut during the three-match series that commences this week.
While New Zealand coach Gary Stead was disappointed to lose Henry,...

London, June 7 (Ians) When India captain Virat Kohli and New Zealand counterpart Kane Williamson take field for the World Test Championship (Wtc) final on June 18, they will renew a captaincy rivalry that goes back 13 years, to the 2008 under-19 World Cup semi-final.
Kohli came out winner in that duel, and India eventually won the World Cup by beating South Africa in the final.
Since then, however, Williamson has grown in experience and earned accolades for his leadership whereas Kohli has earned honours as well as brickbats at the helm.
The last time the two had faced off in an Icc tournament was in the 50-over 2019 World Cup semi-final. Williamson trumped his India rival as he used his bowlers well to defend a 239-run total.
Former Australia speedster Brett Lee has said in an interview with the International Cricket Council (Icc) that the Wtc final would be a clash of two styles of captaincy.
