Plot: Picking up a few months after the end of Vacation Friends, this hilarious sequel finds newly married couple Marcus and Emily inviting their uninhibited besties Ron and Kyla, who are also newly married and have a baby, to join them for a vacation when Marcus lands an all-expenses-paid trip to a Caribbean resort. His reason for traveling there in the first place is to meet with the owners of the resort to bid on a construction contract for a hotel they own in Chicago. But when Kyla’s incarcerated father, Reese, is released from San Quentin and shows up at the resort unannounced at the worst possible moment, things get out of control, upending Marcus’ best-laid plans and turning the vacation friends’ perfect trip into total chaos.

So, is it too late for a quick “vacay”? Sure, most of the schools are back in session, but since Labor Day is only next weekend, why not? And how about bringing along that wild and crazy couple you met a couple of years ago? Well, that could be trouble, though the main character in this comedy sequel believes he has everything under control. Yeah…right. So just what kind of chaos awaits in the Carribean for that quirky quartet (actually a sextet this time) in Vacation Friends 2? Aside from lots of frequent flyer miles, of course.
This farce actually begins in an airport terminal as Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) and his wife Emily (Yvonne Orji) leave their plane from Chicago to get their connecting flight to the Caribbean. Oh, and they’re meeting up with the wild and wacky Ron (John Cena) and Kyla (Meredith Hanger). And they...

Say this for “Vacation Friends 2”: It isn’t a drastic drop-off from the original. That has less to do with it being a better-than-usual sequel than it does with the first film being just okay. Still, one supposes there’s something to be said for consistency. Its setup repeats the odd-couple dynamic of its predecessor, with Lil Rel Howery and Yvonne Orji once again playing the straight man/woman to John Cena and Meredith Hagner’s free-spirited loose cannons. Opposites attract, and so the two couples naturally became besties over several drunken nights in the first film. Not everything that happens in Mexico stays in Mexico, however, and so here we are again in writer-director Clay Tarver’s follow-up, which premieres on Hulu almost exactly two years after its predecessor.

Despite having tried-and-tested methods and multiple pools of inspiration to dip into when running low on the same, the world of buddy comedies is often teeming with tasteless junk trying to pass itself off as movies. Clay Tarver and Tom and Tim Mullen’s 2021 adventure took a shot at taking us back to the good old’ days of The Hangover franchise. Starring the evidently visible John Cena, Yvonne Orji, Meredith Hagner and Lil Rel Howery, the film resolved to take life and itself not too seriously. And lucky for us, Tarver’s vision was clear about the lighthearted escapade where two practically antithetical couples are nudged to do a bit of soul-searching. Here’s a little refresher on the chuckle-worthy tale of these unlikely friends before the much-awaited arrival of the sequel, Vacation Friends 2.

2021 was unquestionably the Summer of Cena, as John Cena appeared in "Fast 9," "The Suicide Squad," and the truly delightful "Vacation Friends." The latter was, in this writer's opinion, the first comedy film since "Blockers" that truly knew how to play to Cena's comedic strengths as a leading man, and pairing him alongside Lil Rel Howery ("Get Out'), Yvonne Orji ("Insecure"), and Meredith Hagner ("Search Party") was a recipe for comedy gold. The film was a huge hit on Hulu, snagging a sequel greenlight less than a month after its debut on the Disney-owned streamer. Less than two years later, the foursome is back for "Vacation Friends 2," reuniting with writer-director Clay Tarver in the process.
The sequel picks up a few months after the first film, which saw Ron (Cena) and a pregnant Kyla (Hagner) finally tying the knot, doing so with their new friends Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) by their side.

It's finally happening: "Dodgeball: A True Underdog" is getting a sequel and, what's more, Vince Vaughn will be returning as Peter La Fleur. The original comedy came out nearly 20 years ago back in 2004 and was a big hit in its day. Naturally, there was lots of talk of a sequel that never actually materialized. Now though, Vaughn has committed to the film and it is in development at 20th Century Studios, with a new writer on board.
According to Deadline, Vaughn will star in and possibly produce the sequel, which does not yet have an official title. Jordan VanDina ("The Binge") has been tapped to pen the screenplay, working from an idea that Vaughn cooked up himself. It is described as being in "early" development, so there's no word yet on a director or plot details. Rawson Marshall Thurber, of "Red Notice" and "We're the Millers" fame, wrote and directed the original film.

A sequel to “Vacation Friends,” 20th Century Studios’ R-rated comedy starring John Cena and Lil Rel Howery, is in the works after the film launched on Hulu with a record-breaking weekend for the streamer, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
Hulu says that the three-day weekend start for “Vacation Friends” was the largest for an original film in the streamer’s history, though no other details were shared.
It presumably beat out other popular titles such as “Palm Springs,” which Hulu previously boasted set an all-time record in its opening weekend on streaming and was Hulu’s most-discussed original film on Twitter.
As for the sequel, director Clay Tarver is expected to return to write and direct the sequel that will be titled “Honeymoon Friends” and will reunite the main cast, including John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Meredith Hagner and Yvonne Orji. “Vacation Friends” debuted on August 27 and is the...

Just as it’s easy to imagine “The Hangover” being transformed, with relatively minor script tinkering, into a deadly serious film noir, one can envision an early draft of “Vacation Friends” serving as the blueprint for a paranoid thriller about vacationers who discover much too late that their new acquaintances are aggressively chummy for all the wrong reasons.
Indeed, there is a teasing hint in an early scene of director Clay Tarver’s comedy that at least one of those acquaintances may have sinister ulterior motives. And that impression is shrewdly enhanced by the inspired casting of Jon Cena, a superstar WWE grappler who’s proven capable of suggesting dark undercurrents — or, in the case of the recent “F9,” raising those currents to flood level — even when he’s demonstrating his comic chops.
But no: There’s no tonal switcheroo comparable to Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild” here. Truth to tell,...

A talented cast can’t do enough to save an almost entirely unfunny film about two discordant couples who meet on holiday and find themselves in chaos
There’s a sense of strained desperation behind the title of the crude summer comedy Vacation Friends that seeps through to the film itself, the bullish insistence that, yes, Vacation Friends is a phrase that people frequently use is as deranged as assuming that something as utterly disposable as Vacation Friends needs to exist right now. There’s a migraine-inducing amount of content being thrown at us, especially in the last year, and this downgraded time-waster (from a Fox theatrical release to a Hulu/Disney streaming premiere) is exactly the kind of thing we don’t have time for, vacation or no.
It’s a sloppy throwback to both the 80s, when perhaps Dan Aykroyd and John Candy would have starred, and then also the 00s,...

“What’s a vacation?” I hear many of you cry, having spent most of the past 18 months holed up at home with no sight of a holiday to let our hair down and go crazy we can now live out that much-needed getaway with the Star original film Vacation Friends through the eyes of John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji and Meredith Hagner on August the 27th via Disney+.
The sometimes R-rated comedy follows the straight-laced Marcus and Emily after they are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron and Kyla at a resort in Mexico. Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new “vacation friends.” Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens...

Whether it’s cocaine on a margarita rim in place of salt or mushrooms that Lil Rel Howery should’ve never eaten, John Cena is quite the bad influence in the first trailer for “Vacation Friends,” as everything he touches “turns to drugs,” giving Howery and his bride to be a bad trip in more ways than one.
“Vacation Friends” is a comedy about a couple played by Howery and Yvonne Orji about to have their dream wedding, only for a couple played by Cena and Meredith Hagner to crash it and claim they’re best friends. Turns out the two couples had a week full of debauchery and fun in Mexico together after Howery and Orji met them and decided to let loose.
“Marcus and I crossed paths in Mexico,” Cena says in an impromptu toast at Howery’s wedding. “We got to know each other…intimately!”

Silicon Valley was a wonderful sitcom for HBO that carefully traced and satirically commented on the tech boom. In our world, the companies were filled with geeks, nerds, and weirdos who were suddenly making millions off bits and bytes. There are the outsized figures who become household names and the financiers hoping to catch a rainbow. So, of course, it was an ideal setting for a series and it managed six seasons, despite interruptions and real-world distractions.
And here we are at the end. Warner Archive has just released Silicon Valley: the Complete Sixth Season on DVD. While the show was about technology and corporate America, it was also, at its core, about friends so it’s no surprise that through the start of Pied Piper through the final episode we still have Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch), Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr), and Dinesh Chugtal (Kumail Nanjiani).

Spoiler Warning: This article reveals details from the series finale for HBO’s Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley finished its sixth and final season on HBO on Sunday night with a swan song episode for Pied Piper.
Created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler, and Dave Krinsky, the Emmy-nominated Silicon Valley is a subversive satire of modern-day tech sector with its the brightest and the biggest aren’t necessarily the best.
“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us,” series executive producers/showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg said when the final season was announced in May. “We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion. We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.

The upcoming sixth season of “Silicon Valley” will be the HBO comedy’s last, Variety has learned.
The final season will be an abbreviated seven episode run, making it the shortest season of the show. “Silcon Valley” is currently in pre-production and is slated to debut later this year.
