"You cannot hesitate." Focus Features has released one final trailer for Cory Finley's devilishly dark comedy Thoroughbreds, opening in select theaters starting March 9th in just a few weeks. Two of the best young actresses today, Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke, play upper-class teen girls in suburban Connecticut who rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. When they get together again, they make plans to take out their stepfather - which they both hate. One of the big quotes on the poster describes this as "American Psycho meets Heathers," which should make you very interested, or not. The full cast includes Paul Sparks, Francie Swift, and Kaili Vernoff. This does look damn good, and it did play at a bunch of festivals, so it may be worth checking out whenever it shows up at an art house theater near you. Watch out. Here's the final official trailer (+ poster) for Cory Finley's Thoroughbreds,...

"You ever think about just killing him?" Focus Features has debuted the full-length official trailer for the indie dark comedy thriller Thoroughbreds, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film is one of Anton Yelchin's other final films, but really stars two young actresses as the leading ladies: Anya Taylor-Joy & Olivia Cooke. These two ladies seem so badass in this. They play two upper-class teen girls in suburban Connecticut who rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. When they get together again, they make plans to take out their stepfather - which they both hate. The full cast includes Paul Sparks, Francie Swift, and Kaili Vernoff. This actually looks like some very dark, devious fun, all about how they try to get rid of their stepfather. Definitely worth a look, have fun here. “Thoroughbred” is a two character piece set in an imposing residence where the young women, teenagers, come together for tutoring but it quickly develops beyond that into new — and dangerous — territory.Director Cory Finley with stars Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy
Emotionally challenged Amanda and contemptuous Lily reboot their childhood friendship after years of instability and judgment, thrown back together by standardized-test tutoring.
When Lily’s icy stepdad, Mark, conspires to ship her off to reform school instead of her dream college, Amanda’s nonchalant quips about killing him suddenly seem enticing. Even as Amanda’s sinister tendencies surface and the girls hatch a plan, the mutual manipulation that has always defined their relationship threatens to derail their ambitions.
They have a history which enables them to confide and challenge and manipulate one another.

Tonight marks the end of Hostages on CBS. Though the "limited series" has not been officially cancelled, the ratings have been so poor that there's just no way that they're going to bring it back for a second season.

Before Ellen (Toni Collette) operates on President Kincaid (James Naughton), the First Lady (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) confronts her and forces Ellen to tell the truth about the assassination plot.

"Hostages" concludes with two back-to-back episodes Monday (Jan. 6), much the way the season has unwound. It requires leaps of faith from viewers as operatives triple-cross each other. Many die, and even those who are supposed to live happily ever after probably won't.
Part 1
In "Suspicious Minds," Col. Thomas Blair (Brian White), a leader of plot to assassinate the president, kidnaps FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle's (Dylan McDermott) wife and daughter.
Ah, karma. Carlisle, of course, is the leader of a band of kidnappers who have been holding surgeon Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) and her family hostage, demanding she kill the president during surgery.
Carlisle wanted in on the plot so he could harvest the president's bone marrow to save his wife, who is dying from leukemia. Nina (Francie Swift) is the daughter the president (James Naughton), fathered when he raped a reporter in 1978.

FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) cannot catch a break.
Sure, you may have little sympathy for him, given that he's taken a family hostage, and has shot and beaten up people. But he did it all for love, and in Monday's (Dec. 16) episode of "Hostages," he seems to lose even that.
By the end of the episode, his terminally ill wife, Nina (Francie Swift), has run away, with their little girl in tow. Nina's forthright and canny. She calls Duncan from the train station, which may be the episode's biggest surprise -- she finds a working public phone -- so he will hear the train announcements. Nina knows her husband will follow her there.
Instead she heads to an airport. Just as Nina and Sawyer are boarding the plane, the evil Co. Blair (Brian White) pulls her off the line.

Desperation sets in at a new level for Brian Sanders (Tate Donovan) on Monday's (Dec. 9) episode of "Hostages."
Given that he and his family were taken hostage in their own home; he's been bound, beaten up and shot; had his corrupt business practices; and had his affair at the office and tenuous marriage and relationships with his kids exposed, viewers would expect he had reached these depths already.
But no, Brian manages to sink lower in this episode. Are there good reasons why a colonel, the president's chief of staff and the scorned sister of the first lady want the president dead? It's unlikely they share the same motivations, outside of a mad power grab.
Col. Thomas Blair (Brian White) believes that the government should continue to spy on citizens. Since he is in charge of Operation Total Information, he wants it to continue. President Kincaid (James Naughton) wants to stop the spying.
"When the American people find out the extent to which this government has been secretly spying on its own citizens -- surveillance devices in cars, in computers -- they are going to demand my head on a stake," the president says to the colonel and Quentin Creasy (Jeremy Bobb), his chief of staff, who are involved in the assassination plot.

CBS' drama "Hostages" is at its best when it takes advantage of the pressures of fleeting time, as it does in Monday's (Oct. 14) episode.
The tension resumes on many levels and this episode leaves two people close to death and three-fourths of the family on the brink of escaping. They will flee if Dr. Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) can just board the bus to Canada with her children and leave her husband, Brian (Tate Donovan), bleeding on the floor.
Brian had confessed to Ellen that he is having an affair -- really, he had to come clean when the family is under siege? Glad his conscience is clear. It's not as if Ellen had anything else clouding her mind -- oh, like whether she was to kill the president of the United States in what should be a routine surgery, or let the hostages kill her family.
Kidnapping ringleader Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) shoots Brian,...

Title: Brief Reunion Director: John Daschbach Starring: Joel de la Fuente, Alexie Gilmore, Scott Shepherd, Kristy Hasen, Francie Swift A solid, smartly wound little psychological drama that digs into the knotty qualities of mid-life adult relationships, when old acquaintances best left forgotten can drift into a life and bring unexpected turmoil, writer-director John Daschbach’s “Brief Reunion” is a spare but engaging examination of personal character, and the vacillating nature of right and wrong. The ordered, bucolic, rural New England existence of Internet entrepreneur Aaron (Joel de la Fuente) and his wife, Leah (Alexie Gilmore), starts to unravel when an old college classmate, Teddy (Scott Shepherd), shows up. Serena is completely driving me crazy on Gossip Girl lately. At the beginning of last night's episode I was incredibly frustrated, thinking to myself "how about you stop going after unattainable men and then complaining when it doesn't work out, Serena?" Then by the end I was rolling my eyes and saying "oh, of course it works out for you." Oy. Despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of either Jenny or Vanessa, right now I'm rooting for the two of them - along with Juliet - to knock Serena down a peg.
Will they succeed? Probably not in a big way, since Serena's one of the leads of this show. But they might damage her reputation a bit. Regardless, this is a good way of reintroducing Jenny into the storyline this season and giving her something to do. We've already posted promo photos for the upcoming November...

Blair (Leighton Meester) sets her sights on becoming the new face of Anne Archibald’s (guest star Francie Swift) foundation for girls, but Anne is concerned that Blair’s friendship with Chuck Bass may be problematic. Katie Cassidy guest stars as Juliet.

Starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as long-time NYPD partners ostensibly tracking down a baseball card, Cop Out was conceived as a parody of buddy-cop flicks such as “48 Hrs” and “Lethal Weapon.”
Cop Out affects such a generic, mid-80s feel that you keep waiting for the wink.
You keep watching, expecting that, at any moment, director Kevin Smith is going to tip his hand – to spoof the genre, send it up, make fun of it. In other words, you keep waiting for him to have his characters wink at the camera as if to communicate the fact that this is all meant as a joke, not to be taken seriously.
And they do. But the joke’s on them…read more [The Huffington Post]

In his third outing as a full-fledged hyphenate, writer-director-actor-producer Eric Schaeffer ("If Lucy Fell", "My Life Is in Turnaround") ushers in "Fall", an essentially straight-faced story about a cocky New York cabbie (Schaeffer) who gets into a hot and heavy affair with a European supermodel.
Hey, it's a guy's movie.
While this anatomy of an intensely physical relationship has its moments of perceptive clarity, it is ultimately hampered by the kind of self-indulgence that gives vanity filmmaking a bad name.
Distributed domestically by Schaeffer's newly formed Five Minutes Before the Miracle, "Fall" nevertheless has a low-enough budget (under $1 million) and an unrated allure to keep Schaeffer's meter running.
A prolific writer who prefers driving his cab, Michael Shiver (Schaeffer) picks up the fare of his fantasies in the form of internationally famous model Sarah Easton (former model and British TV personality-turned-actress Amanda DeCadenet).
It's not exactly mutual love at first sight. She's indifferent (not to mention married), but he's relentless. Before you can say "Dear Penthouse", they're getting sweaty against his refrigerator.
The tryst turns into a full-fledged affair much to the wide-eyed amusement of his friends, Robin (Francie Swift), who's studying to become an Episcopalian priest, and Sally (Lisa Vidal). But in the end, being from different sides of the tracks proves to be an insurmountable barrier and the relationship breaks down with Sarah returning to her jet-setting husband.
Although Schaeffer's filmmaking dexterity is admirable, a little distancing would have gone a long way in the credibility department. While it has its odd charms and occasionally the carnality strikes a convincing chord absent from most screen romances, for the most part "Fall" feels like an ego-fed, forced fantasy. One conceit that has the lead characters expressing their innermost feelings in continual voice-over be-comes particularly annoying.
At least actress-model DeCadenet , who brings an interesting, likable presence to the role, didn't have to feel too objectified by taking the part since Schaeffer seems to prefer parading his own body across the screen.
Production values, given the tidy budget, are solid. Joe De Salvo's photography lends the New York backdrop a sophisticated sheen, while Amanda Kravat's score and tunes blend nicely with selections by the Verve Pipe, Duncan Sheik and Jars of Clay.
