Quick, name a superhero with a more cynical perspective than Batman. Okay, sure there’s Spawn, but I meant in mainstream comics. Yeah, Punisher, but how about in DC Comics? Sure, there’s John Constantine. But I mean a character less suitable for Christmas stories. What’s that you say? Constantine once crushed the bones of St. Nicolas and snorted them into a powder? And Lobo murdered Santa?
Okay, the point is that Batman doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would make for a good Christmas story. Spider-Man can deliver presents while swinging across New York City and Superman has carried Santa’s slay more than once, but Mr. Vengeance doesn’t even like leaving Gotham. Why would he bother with the North Pole?
And yet, Batman has been at the center of several Christmas stories over the year, and some of them are pretty great. Here...

We've got your exclusive look at how the various facets of Archie Comics' history will unite on the printed page!
Sure, connected universes may be all the rage these days, but Archie Comics has been ahead of this curve for decades. Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Crisis on Infinite Earths were even a glimmer in a young nerd's eye, the plucky publisher had Archie and the gang interacting with Josie and the Pussycats and Sabrina the Teenage Witch in their various titles..
In the past, Archie has occasionally published crossover stories uniting all the works from their nearly 80-year history (most notably in their Archie: The Married Life series), but never to a game-changing degree. All that is about to change. With the current Archie vs. Predator II and Jughead's Time Police titles weaving together the narrative threads that unite all permutations of these characters,...

Gray Television, which just completed a $3.6 billion acquisition of Raycom Media, is expanding its use of Comscore measurement services at many of its local stations.
The company, which now owns 150 affiliates of CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox, said it will use Comscore at all of the stations it owned before the acquisition and at the majority of stations that had been owned by Raycom, including one-time Raycom holdings in Cleveland and Louisville.
“Through our use of Comscore in a number of markets in recent years, we saw first-hand the accuracy and stability of Comscore’s local TV currency,” said Bob Smith, Gray’s chief operating officer, local media, in a prepared statement. “In fact, when polled, our general managers in all 57 legacy Gray markets made clear they preferred Comscore as their trusted currency – so it was an easy decision to shift all these markets to Comscore. You don’t really believe that Chief Thunderthud was a racist, do you?
Our man Thunderthud was called a “chief,” but he wore only a single feather on his head instead of the fully-feathered bonnet we were used to seeing perched atop guys who answered to “chief” in the cowboy pictures I saw before you were born. The (if I may) chief is most notable, not for something he wore, but for something he said. This was “Kowabunga,” sometimes spelled “Cowabunga” and used mostly, if memory serves, as an expletive you could say freely in front of your church-going grandma. Some of you – most of you? – thought that Kowa/Cowabunga originated with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, of movie and comic book fame. Sorry, but no.
Beginning in 1947, Chief Thunderthud dwelt in Doodyville which, in turn, was located in midtown Manhattan in a studio owned and operated by The National Broadcasting Company.

Actor Allen Swift, who voiced classic cartoon characters Might Mouse, Dinky Duck and Howdy Doody, has died at the age of 87.
Swift died on 18 April at his Manhattan home. His cause of death had not been disclosed as WENN went to press.
Swift landed his big break in 1954 when he filled in for Howdy Doody star Bob Smith, after the former host suffered a heart attack.
The role kickstarted his Hollywood career, and helped Swift win over 30,000 television and radio commercials, including promos for Jell-o, the Eveready battery, a toilet plunger for Drano, Vita’s Beloved Herring Maven, Hostess Ho Hos and Sanka decaffeinated coffee.
He also played animated characters Simon Bar Sinister and Riff Raff on TV cartoon Underdog, and most of the characters on the Tom and Jerry cartoons made from 1960 to 1962.
He appeared in several Off Broadway productions and in the Broadway plays including How to Make a Man, The Student Gypsy and My Old Friends.
Swift is survived by his wife, Lenore Loveman, a son, two daughters and five grandchildren.

Ira Stadlen was better known as voice actor Allen Swift. He provided the voice of the villainous Simon Bar-Sinister on the Underdog cartoon series from 1964.
