Dwayne Johnson’s recent transformation into a heel character has injected a frenzy of excitement into WWE programming, infused with a new sense of strength and subtlety. This development blends The Rock’s quirky Hollywood charm with a rebellious attitude that defined his identity in the 90s. His recent appearance on Raw gave the wrestling community a shock, especially when he unexpectedly faced Cody Rhodes.

On the March 25, 2024, episode of WWE Raw, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson delivered a memorable final segment in which he bloodied Cody Rhodes. This moment was significant, as the practice of intentionally using a razor blade had been outlawed for years during the Vince McMahon regime.

I fail to understand why the makers of a major Salman Khan starrer franchise ‘Tiger 3’ chose to release on a Sunday! Why not release on the preceding Friday to use the weekend and later, to cash on the festive mood! Well, it’s a matter of business and I will leave it at that. For me and the audience the reason to watch Tiger 3 is as much their mission as the makers – ‘Mission Time Pass’. With Salman Khan top lining the cast, one is well aware that it has to be a fan pleasing ‘Salman Khan entertainer’, period.
The ‘Tiger’ franchise has changed its captain again with ‘Fan’ director Maneesh Sharma at the helm of affairs. He doesn’t let you blink with its over-the-top action, some decent performances, twists and a gripping screenplay. Maneesh Sharma packs all the elements in a manner that it makes for an intriguing watch.

The Fake Sheikh, a three-part docuseries released by Amazon, could compete with any of Netflix’s top-notch docuseries. More than just an information dump, this series has proven to be a great exploration of a gripping narrative and a cinematic reconstruction based on the story. The narrative is centered on British journalist Mazher Mahmood’s rise to prominence through his brilliant but questionable investigative journalism and his eventual fall from grace. The Fake Sheikh is an important story that portrays a common man’s ambition to reach the sky, and his failure due to his inability to commit to truth and honesty.
Born in Birmingham, England, Mazher Mahmood hails from a South Asian background. From an early age, he saw his father, who was a Pakistani journalist, as limited to focusing on stories about his community. Mazher, aka Maz, wanted to break those boundaries and work not only on Asian...

The London tabloid world has traditionally been a sort of journalism Bizarro World, where entrapment is standard practice and news is manufactured on a profit-driven whim, often at the expense of innocent victims. For two decades, Mazher Mahmood strode over this ethics-starved world like a corrupt colossus, enabled by his employers, chiefly News of the World, to destroy lives as an “undercover reporter.”

Pallekele, Sep 4 (Ians) Unbeaten fifties by captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill powered India to the Super Fours stage of the Asia Cup with a 10-wicket thrashing of Nepal in their Group A match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
After Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj picked three wickets apiece while Aasif Sheikh and Sompal Kami played gusty knocks in guiding Nepal to a competitive 230, the rain stopped the proceedings for two hours. By then, India reached 17 for no loss in 2.1 overs and the target was then revised to 145 in 23 overs as per Dls method when the game resumed at 10:15 pm.

Pallekele, Sep 4 (Ians) Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj picked three-wicket hauls as Aasif Sheikh and Sompal Kami played gusty knocks to guide Nepal to a competitive total of 230 against India in the Asia Cup Group A match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
On a two-paced pitch that aided spinners more, Nepal put up a much-improved batting display after being skittled out for 104 against Pakistan last week. Aasif, the wicketkeeper-batter, was brilliant in his 58 off 97 balls, laced with eight fours.
After an hour’s rain interruption, Kami during his 56-ball 48 struck a few shots to take Nepal past 200. Nepal were also aided by some erratic bowling from India, who bowled too many short and back-of-length deliveries.
There was also very sloppy work from India in fielding, leading to three catches being dropped in the first five overs and plenty of misfields happening throughout the innings.

The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Anamul Haque Bijoy has been named as Das’s replacement by the Bangladesh National Selection Panel. He is set to join the squad in Sri Lanka later on Wednesday.
“He (Anamul) has been in the runs in domestic cricket and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers program. He was always in our consideration,” Minhajul Abedin said.

Harare, June 13 (Ians) After a whirlwind first half of 2023, Nepal travel to Zimbabwe with an aim to qualify for the Cricket World Cup, which is set to be held in India, later this year.
Seemingly in a rut during a tumultuous Cwc League 2 period, out of form and struggling to find their ideal first XI, Nepal’s fortunes changed in February when Monty Desai was appointed as head coach.
The team still had a third of their League 2 campaign in front of them, though needed at least 10 wins from their final 12 matches for a critical top-three spot and a guaranteed place at the upcoming Qualifier.
Amazingly, and with the help at key moments from a vocal Kathmandu crowd, the side won 11 of the last dozen, including a thrilling Dls-decided victory against UAE on the final day of the competition.
It turned out to be a sliding door moment of significance.

Living in Pakistan, Abdul Aziz and Farah Naz dreamed of sending their eldest daughter to high school in America, in hopes she would matriculate at a U.S. college. In 2018, Sabika Sheikh was accepted as an exchange student at Santa Fe High School. In her first semester, she was killed in a school shooting.
On what would have been the week of their daughter’s 18th birthday, the Sheikhs sued the gunman’s parents, working with the litigation team at Everytown for Gun Safety, a non-profit that was less than five years old.

Netflix has unveiled “King of Clones,” a sensational documentary film featuring unprecedented access to South Korean scientist Hwang Woo-suk, and set a June streaming date.
From human cloning research to a scandalous downfall, the documentary tells the story of Korea’s most notorious scientist Hwang Woo-suk. Armed with a degree in veterinary science and a masters and doctorate in theriogenology, the study of animal reproduction, Hwang’s rise to prominence started with his successful cloning of cows and pigs. In 2002, Hwang embarked upon human cloning research and partnered with Moon Shin-yong, an obstetrician with expertise in in-vitro fertilization. Their collaboration led to a major announcement in 2004, claiming the successful cloning of human embryos, with the potential to cure some diseases. The announcement fueled a heated debate on bioethics, despite Hwang and Moon emphasizing that their work focused solely on therapeutic purposes and strongly opposing reproductive cloning.

Yet, ‘Akbar Allahabadi’ does not enjoy the place he deserves in the pantheon of Urdu poets.
Called "Lisan-ul-Asr" (‘Voice of the Time’) in his heyday, he is not entirely unknown due to ghazals like "Duniya mein hoon, duniya ka talabgar nahi hoon…", as rendered by the immortal K.L. Saigal, and "Hangama kyun barpa, thodi si jo pi li hain..", performed by Ghulam Ali, with that line reflecting Descartes’ ‘cogito ergo sum’ ("… har saans ye kahti hai ham hai to Khuda bhi hai"), as well as many more couplets on a range of issues and themes.
Take "Falsafi ko bahs ke andar Khuda milta nahi/Dor ko suljha raha hai aur sira milta nahi", or the rather sarcastic "Chorh ‘literature’ ko apni, ‘history’ ko bhool ja/Sheikh-o-masjid se ta’alluq tark kar ‘school’ ja/Char din ki zindagi hai koft se kya fayda/Kha ‘double-roti’, ‘clerki’ kar, khushi se phul ja...

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, Steven Spielberg takes us to school with a one-shot masterclass in "The Adventures of Tintin")
Honestly, it's not even fair how good Steven Spielberg is at his job. You'd think that anyone would simply call it a day after breaking the mold and defining the very concept of the summer blockbuster, pumping out family-friendly classics one after another, capturing the country's post-9/11 fears with brutal succinctness, and taking a well-earned victory lap with the Oscar-nominated and semi-autobiographical "The Fabelmans." But noooo, the greatest filmmaker alive had to go a step further and conquer another medium altogether -- motion-capture animation -- and do so to incredible results.

In Cannes, only the industry attends the festival; the public sets up chairs and ladders to watch the red carpet galas and take pictures. But here the public is as much a part of the festival as the industry.Tiff Bell Lightbox
The industry action which consists of buying and selling of film rights takes place at the Hyatt Hotel on King Street West. The screenings for both public and industry are down the street at the Tiff Bell Lightbox and around the corner at the Scotia Multiplex. The dense mingling of public and industry at these venues and on the street itself which is closed to traffic for the first weekend but is open to pedestrians, photo-op spots, food trucks creates a festive bevvy of activity to the city.

Screen investigates which films from around the world could launch on the Croisette, including on opening night.
With just over a month to go before the line-up for this year’s Cannes Film Festival is unveiled in Paris, Croisette predictions and wish lists are hitting the web thick and fast.
Screen’s network of correspondents and contributors around the world have been putting out feelers to get a sense of what might or might not make it to the Palais du Cinéma or one of the parallel sections.
Just like the Oscars, this year’s festival is likely to unfold amid a politically-charged atmosphere. Beyond Trump and the rise of populism across the globe, France will be digesting the result of its own presidential election on May 7. Against this background, the festival will be feting its 70th edition.
Below, Screen reveals which titles might - and might not - be in the running for a place at the...

A “religious western” is how Moroccan-based Spanish director Oliver Laxe describes his second film Mimosas, winner of the top prize at Cannes’ Critics’ Week. It’s a spiritual, ambiguously-plotted journey through the Atlas Mountains, but those willing to give in to its mystical embrace and gorgeous visuals should find it an sensual, engrossing watch.
There’s spiritualism from the opening scenes: deep in the Moroccan mountains, a group of nomadic travelers are being led to the ancient city of Sijilmasa by their wizened old sheik, a dying man who wants to be buried in his home town. Crossing the Atlas is treacherous, and some in the caravan object, but faith in their leader among the rest carries them through.
The film cuts to what seems like another world – a bustling city, where Shakib (an eminently watchable Shakib Ben Omar) extolls a Quranic tale of the devil in the garden of Eden.

The great movie pioneer D.W. Griffiths once said “we do not want now and we shall never want the human voice with our films.” Shame he failed to realise that film-making is a technical medium that will always develop. In the last 100 years we have had the introduction of colour, trick photography, 3D and CGI, among other numerous innovations such as CinemaScope - and even Smellovision. But none of these compare to the most revolutionary of cinematic changes: sound.
The silent era of the twenties holds little more than curiosity-value for many modern film fans. Other than a few notable exceptions such as Nosferatu (1922) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925), it’s become a long-forgotten part of cinema history. But back then we had the Brad Pitts and Angelina Jolies of their day! Big stars and talented actors who sadly failed to survive the test of time.

Tell Me Oh Kkhuda is what our Dream Girl, Hema Malini was thinking when she decided to make this film. Was it a comeback vehicle for beti, Esha Deol? Was it to give a second chance for her directional skills? Or was it the thought that the story needed telling…again? We will try not to look at her previous directorial Dil Aashna Hai that has pretty much the same story [Dah has the lead looking for her birth mother, Tmok has Esha looking for her dad] since Tmok has very little for the audience to be interested in, let alone excited about. And that too beyond the cast which include Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor and Dharmendra as the potential fathers, and Johnny Lever as the main and possibly only comic relief.
Yet, we are going through a phase in cinema where remakes and reused stories are running at every second theatre screen so we will excuse the rehashing of the story and its resemblance to Mamma Mia.
