Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov has died after being diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. He was 21.
The Maple Leafs confirmed Amirov died Monday in Munich, Germany, where he had been receiving treatment. They also posted a tribute to Amirov on Scotiabank Arena’s outdoor video board.
“The entire Maple Leafs organization is devastated by this tragic loss,” said Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan in a statement. “Over the duration of his courageous battle, Rodion’s positivity inspired everyone around him, and he made lasting impressions with our team and fans in his brief visits to Toronto.”
Amirov signed a three-year entry-level contract with Toronto in April 2021 after being selected 15th overall by the NHL club in the 2020 entry draft.
Former Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas announced in February 2022 that Amirov had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and was undergoing treatment. He missed the entire 2022-...

The latest installment from Up All Night, "Week Off," was anything but in terms of story line or entertainment.
Reagan calls the shots at Ava's show, but Chris is master of the house at home and was more tolerant than I would have expected, putting up with his wife's nitpicking. He did very well, though, to explain his right to keep things his way at home by having given up his law career to help raise Amy.
Heck, Everyone needs a junk drawer in their life, right? Chris and Reagan's sock fight was adorable and only made better by Ava's commentary.
I was glad to see Kevin and his daughter, McKenna, back. It was interesting to see how Ava reverted to showing off her wealth when she found herself nervous around Kevin and his child. McKenna's personality went south, as well, as she was burdened by her upcoming performance. Ava...

Earlier this morning on "Today," Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber came face-to-face with thousands of fans who crowded into Rockefeller Center in the middle of midtown Manhattan (some of whom had been camped out there since Wednesday night). The singer sat down for a brief interview with co-host Matt Lauer before walking outside to a chorus of ecstatic screams and performing a 30 minute set. But perhaps the best encounter the singer had during his stint on the show was when he encountered the Stanley Cup, the NHL's storied championship trophy. It was also visiting "Today" (accompanied by former Hartford Whalers star Brendan Shanahan...
