What is "The Revolution"? Yes, soap fans know it as one of the shows that's taken over the timeslots of their dearly-departed daytime dramas (R.I.P. "One Life To Live"), but this is one show that might be compelling enough to squash their boycotts.
Executive producer Jd Roth has assembled an all-star team of experts from every field -- "Project Runway" mentor and style guru Tim Gunn, celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, women's health expert Dr. Jennifer Ashton, relationship therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" home guru Ty Pennington -- to help people truly change their lives on TV.

The daily inspirational makeover program replaces the long-running One Life To Live, and the soap’s die-hard fans are militantly unhappy. At today’s TCA, the first question to the Revolution panel was about how the show would deal with the backlash and keep the angry fans from switching over to NBC’s daytime drama Days Of Our Lives, which airs against The Revolution. “We can’t replace that show, but what we offer is something different,” said co-host Ty Pennington, the resident design expert whose long-running reality series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was also recently canceled by ABC. “Extreme Makeover was a show that got canceled too, and that was something that was really,...

On January 16 at 2 p.m., ABC debuts "The Revolution," a self help show featuring five experts who help women and couples transform their daily lives in areas of fitness, medicine, wardrobe, mental health, and environment. The network describes the show as "your daily boost."
But will it be as much of a boost, entertainment-speaking, as the fallen "One Life to Live" and "All My Children," daytime staples that were canceled in favor of this less-expensive reality programming?
Experts Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry (mental health), Tim Gunn (fashion), Ty Pennington (design), Dr. Jennifer Ashton (women's health) and Harley Pasternak (fitness) sure hope so, but at the Television Critics Association press day on Monday, they weren't particularly convincing.

But the story ends with a somber thought: "ABC (which didn't shop the shows before making the announcement) doesn't think they'll get any interest. And indeed, when TV Guide Magazine asked several cable networks whether they'd be interested, reps for those channels — including Oprah Winfrey Network and Hallmark Channel — said no."
"We pitched an idea for daytime that had a fresh perspective, and they liked it," says Roth, who shot the pilot to The Revolution six months ago. "I didn't know if it was going to be for syndication or network. No one talked about replacing anything. It's bittersweet for me. On the one hand, we're bringing a new genre to daytime. But on the other hand, I grew up watching my mom watching these soap operas.

Reality producer J.D. Roth had a hunch that ABC was close to picking up his new daytime series The Revolution. But Roth says he had no idea until Thursday morning that his greenlight would come at the expense of two soap opera staples.
Thursday's ABC soapocalypse left daytime fans reeling, as the network pulled the plug on 43-year-old One Life to Live and 41-year-old All My Children. Roth, whose new show will take the place of Oltl in January, says he first brought The Revolution to ABC more than a year ago.

Related Frons Speaks: ABC Daytime Chief Explains Why 'AMC' & 'Oltl' Were Axed; Says 'Gh' Is "Safe For Time Being" Updated: Goodbye Erica Kane. It is a sad day for soap fans, who are losing two more long-running daytime dramas. After relentless speculation over the past couple of months that ABC will cancel at least one of its three daytime soaps, the network today announced it will pull the plug on both All My Children and One Life To Live. All My Children will end its 41-year run in September, One Life to Live will bow out in January after 43 years. They will be replaced by two new unscripted shows, The Chew and The Revolution, respectively. The move leaves General Hospital as the only soap in ABC's daytime lineup. Produced by Gordon Elliot (Paula Deen’s Home Cooking), The Chew is a live show about anything and everything related to the world of food and beyond.

Spike TV has ordered two new unscripted series from producers behind Jersey Shore and The Biggest Loser. The half-hour Repo Games, from Jersey Shore exec producer Sally Ann Salsano and her 495 Prods., has received a 20-episode order. It is a game-show described as Cops meets Jeopardy and follows a crew of real-life repo men, Josh Lewis and Tom Detone, who give debtors one last chance to keep their cars but only if they’re willing to play for it. The debtors get five questions and if they get three answers correct, the car will be paid off on the spot. If not, the car gets taken away. Production on the show starts in February. The hourlong Bar Rescue, from 3 Ball Pros./Eyeworks, has received a 10-episode order. The Biggest Loser Couples season 11 starts up again tonight just a few short weeks after Patrick won the season 10 title. This season mothers and father, brother and sisters, and best friends compete for the $250,000 prize. We recently spoke with trainer Bob Harper and the series executive producer J.D. Roth about the amount of the prize money, Bob's passion for the show and his culinary guilty pleasure.
Season 11 of The Biggest Loser premieres on Tuesday, January 4 at 8 p.m. Est/7 p.m. Central on NBC.
Q: Now that The Biggest Loser has been on for ten seasons, do you think you could do away with the prize money and still have the same show?
J.D: You know, the prize was never $1 million, which was very standard at the time when the show came out. Every show was $1 million. It was 250 for a reason. Because although...

NBC's The Biggest Loser completed its first day of filming while picketed by some 50 striking crew members. The show's two trainers, Jilian Michaels, who had said she won't cross the picket line, and Bob Harper, were not scheduled to work, so they didn't show up at The Biggest Loser Ranch where the reality series is filmed. Among those who did show up and crossed the picket line were executive producers J.D. Roth and Todd Nelson, founders/CEO's of 3 Ball Prods. (see photo by Jim Stevenson below). Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, will hold a meeting tomorrow to sanction the Iatse-led strike by the crew of The Biggest Loser. A press event is scheduled for 11:15 Am. “The producers of this show want to make their own workers ‘the biggest losers’ and the labor movement in La is not going to let that happen,” Afl-cio's Maria Elena Durazo said in a statement.

As you know, Deadline TV Editor Nellie Andreeva has been keeping you up-to-date on every development of this breaking labor story. ('Biggest Loser' Production To Resume On Monday With Replacements) Now here's my opinion: NBC needs to put an immediate stop to this disgusting situation before someone gets hurt. Shame on the broadcast network for embracing a show that's now bringing in scab workers on Monday to replace striking Iatse members. NBC can and should put its foot down after 10 seasons of airing The Biggest Loser and use its influence with Shine Group's Reveille Productions and 25/7 Productions, and Jd Roth's and Todd Nelson's Eyeworks-owned 3 Ball Productions, to stop the confrontation. And I'm calling on NBC Universal Television Group President/COO Jeff Gaspin to get personally involved. I'm also calling on Shine's Elizabeth Murdoch to consider her prominence in the entertainment biz and do the right thing. What else should be on the horizon?...

Exclusive... 3Rd Update Friday 11Pm: It's war! I hear that The Biggest Loser producers, Shine Group's Reveille and Jd Roth's and Todd Nelson's Eyeworks-owned 3 Ball Prods., are planning to resume production on the weight-loss reality series on Monday morning after a week-long shutdown because of the Iatse-backed strike by crew members. But the restart of filming is not the result of an agreement with Iatse. I hear the producers are bringing in replacements and the show will continue to be non-union. (In a letter sent to the crew members on Tuesday, the full text of which is displayed in the 2nd Updatedbelow, the producers threaten striking crew members that their jobs may be lost if they hire permanent replacements.) I hear that no Biggest Loser crew members are expected to cross the picket line on Monday. "Should be ugly," one insider says. Meanwhile, I hear that the Biggest...

The hardest thing about saving is actually doing it. However, there is a simple solution to this problem: pay yourself first before paying others. That's the key to saving, says J.D. Roth, founder of GetRichSlowly.org. "It took years for me to understand what 'pay yourself first' really meant, and by that time, I was already in financial trouble," Roth writes. Paying yourself first means this: Before you buy groceries, pay your mortgage or run out to buy the latest designer handbag, set aside a portion of your income for savings (around 10%) and then go on about your business...
