From the moment the Max team took on Tokyo Vice, their determination was to ensure authenticity and to accurately portray the essence of the story. Thus, what better way to showcase Tokyo Vice than by shooting it in Japan? Although it may have initially sounded like a thrilling adventure, it turned out to be one of the most challenging aspects of the project for the team.
Tokyo Vice Season 1 Episode 8
Why Was It So Necessary to Shoot Tokyo Vice in Japan?
What the recent typical pop culture media portrays Japan to be was not the angle Max wanted to approach Tokyo Vice from. Instead, they aimed to delve deep into the extensive crime world and darker aspects of the beautiful land, juxtaposing the serene and aesthetic views with cherry blossoms.

Carl Vernlund Jaimoe (center) and the Jasssz Band.
The last year saw a flood of solo releases by members of the Allman Brothers band. The first three, by Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks’ Tedeschi Trucks Band, were all nominated for the Best Blues Album Grammy Award. But the fourth and final release may be the best of all: “Renaissance Man” by founding Allman Brothers drummer Jaimoe and his Jasssz Band.
Released December 17th by lil’Johnieboy Records, “Renaissance Man” is a laid-back delight.

Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock have purchased the film rights to journalist Alan Paul’s new memoir Big in China: My Unlikely Adventure Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Reinventing Myself in Beijing for Montecito Pictures. Paul’s memoir arrived in stores on March 1 from HarperCollins. The book recounts "his time in Beijing, where he relocated from suburban New Jersey with his family when his wife, Rebecca Blumenstein, was named The Wall Street Journal’s China bureau chief."
Here is a description of the story from The Hollywood Reporter: "Becoming a stay-at-home dad, Paul spent hours exploring the city while his three young children were in school. One day, he wandered into a guitar shop to see if someone might be able to fix his guitar, which had been damaged en route to China. He struck up a conversation with Woodie Wu, a young guitarist and owner of the shop.

We still don't know what is going on with Ghostbusters 3, as Bill Murray seems to be the perpetual hold-up. But Ivan Reitman, who has contractual right of first refusal to direct and is currently slated to sit in the director's chair should the movie actually happen, is developing other projects. One is Big in China, based on the true story of Alan Paul, a music journalist who unexpectedly found himself becoming a musical sensation in China. THR [1] reports that Montecito Pictures, the company run by Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock, has picked up the rights to Alan Paul's just-published memoir Big in China: My Unlikely Adventure Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Reinventing Myself in Beijing. It's a long title, but a crazy story and possibly a very entertaining movie. Alan Paul is married to Rebecca Blumenstein, who was named China bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal.

Ivan Reitman is in talks to direct Big in China, memoir of the journalist Alan Paul that is full with journalist’s adventures in Beijing.
As you already guess, this one is actually following Paul’s life-changing experience that began when his wife accepted a three-year work assignment in Beijing. Will Reitman accept this offer from Montecito Pictures – we have no idea, but we do know that the project is currently out to writers, after which Reitman will make his decision.
So what can a stay-at-home dad do in Beijing? Well, this dad picked up guitar and started a blues band. The memoir examines the East-West disconnect and captures a nation struggling to modernize.
And for all of you interested in this kind of project, here’s a little description of the memoir: “After resettling their three young children from suburban New Jersey to China, Paul, a music and basketball...

Well "Ghostbusters 3" is still up in the air since everyone is waiting on Bill Murray to stop crashing karaoke parties and getting into fights at football games and read the script already, but Ivan Reitman perhaps sees the writing on the wall and has another project he might direct. THR reports that the director's Montecito Pictures shingle has picked up the rights to "Big in China: My Unlikely Adventure Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Reinventing Myself in Beijing" by journalist Alan Paul. And it's actually a pretty interesting story. Paul found himself in Beijing when his wife,…...

Even with MGM frantically altering their Red Dawn remake so it's about North Korean, rather than Chinese, invading armies, another studio is ready to embrace the Eastern superpower with open arms and a true story about an American making it big there. No, it's not the Karate Kid sequel-- not yet, at least. At Monecito Pictures they're working on an adaptation of Big in China the memoir by journalist Alan Paul about the time he spent living in Beijing and joining a blues band that eventually wound up traveling the country. According to THR the project is being set up as a directing and producing project for Monecito partner Ivan Reitman; they're currently on the hunt for writers to take a crack at the script. Given that Reitman's last film was the Gen Y-tilted rom-com No Strings Attached he may be aiming to make a film about someone closer to...

Montecito Pictures has acquired the film rights to journalist Alan Paul’s new memoir "Big in China" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story recounts Paul’s time in Beijing, where he relocated from suburban New Jersey with his family after his wife was named The Wall Street Journal’s China bureau chief.
Becoming a stay-at-home dad, Paul spent hours exploring the city and struck up a friendship with a young guitar shop owner. Together they formed 'Woodie Alan', a blues quintet with two other Chinese musicians and an American Treasury representative to China.
Said band took the Beijing club scene by storm. Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock will produce the film with Reitman potentially directing. A writer is currently being sought.

Senses of Cinema editor Rolando Caputo, summing up the gist of Murray Pomerance's essay on Second Life, notes that, for those who live there, "the 'virtual world' has become reality, and 'reality' the virtual world." Ian Alan Paul considers "What Inception tells us about our experience of reality and film" and the title of Celluloid Liberation Front's piece on Fassbinder's 1973 made-for-tv adaptation of Daniel F Galouye's science fiction novel, The Counterfeit World, is "World on a Wire: Reality is Colder than Fiction." These three features "are to be taken as a triptych," advises Caputo, as "all, respectively and in their independent and unique way, address the crisis of the 'real.'"...

Neither Nor Music announces the February 14th release of Where Is Love..., the debut solo recording of New York City-based actor/singer Ron DeStefano. This full-length studio album, produced by David Snyder (Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole: Live At The Cinegrill; The Manhattan Transfer's Alan Paul: Another Place And Time), weaves fourteen songs together from the worlds of theatre, jazz, pop, and cabaret to create an emotional narrative exploring the joys and challenges of romance. With lush, orchestral arrangements featuring live strings, brass, woodwinds, guitar, percussion and piano, Where Is Love... employs standards (Rodgers and Hart's "My Romance," Kern and Hammerstein's "All the Things You Are"), pieces from contemporary writers (Jeff Blumenkrantz's "Hold My Hand," John Bucchino's "Unexpressed"), and familiar pop songs (Michael Bubl?'s "Everything," Bacharach and David's "I'll Never Fall In Love Again") as musical chapters in the "story of love" - yearning, hoping,...
