Pro Football Hall of Famer and TV host Michael Strahan is among the many people mourning and recognizing actor Carl Weathers upon recent news of his passing.
The 76-year-old actor appeared in many roles, including Apollo Creed in the Rocky films and Greef Karga in Disney+’s Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.
On Friday, media outlets reported Carl Weathers’ death, and many individuals reacted with their thoughts about how he impacted their lives.
Like Strahan, Weathers has a football background. He played for San Diego State in college and briefly for the Oakland Raiders in the NFL before joining Canada’s BC Lions for several years in the early 1970s.
Following his days playing football, Weathers took on roles in movies and television, including one that included Strahan as a co-star.

Carl Weathers, the former NFL player who made his mark in Hollywood as the boxer Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and with appearances in such other projects as Predator, Happy Gilmore and The Mandalorian, has died. He was 76.
Weathers died Thursday in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles, his manager, Matt Luber, announced in a statement.
“Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life,” he said. “Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend.”
The charismatic Weathers portrayed Detective Beaudreaux on the 1991-93 syndicated cop show Street Justice; the chief of police Hampton Forbes on the final two seasons of CBS’ In the Heat of the Night in 1992-94; a caricature of himself on episodes of Fox...

"Galaxy Quest" isn't just a hilarious sci-fi riff on "Three Amigos," it's also respected by longtime fans of "Star Trek" as a loving parody of the original series created by Gene Roddenberry, not to mention a positive portrayal of passionate fandom. In the movie, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell play the cast members of a cheesy sci-fi series called "Galaxy Quest" that looks eerily like the original iteration of "Star Trek" on the small screen. At this point in their careers, all the actors are washed up, relegated to appearing at sci-fi conventions and answering nerdy questions about the show from their most passionate fans. But they're about to get a chance to become real heroes.

You’re not gone until you’re gone. At least that’s what I told people when they realized it took eight seasons for “Fear the Walking Dead” to wrap up.
“Fear” bested predictions and became one of the longest-running television spin-offs currently on air. While ratings dwindled and characters were written off over the years, it maintained a decent cult following — some tuning in for Alycia Debnam-Carey, who came into her own as an actress on the show following “The 100,” while others begrudgingly watched to keep up with the “Walking Dead” universe, after characters like Morgan (Lennie James), Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christine Evangelista) were transferred from the original series.
A key to its success, “Fear” never shied away from a soft reboot. Every season tackled a new approach to its storytelling, sometimes in the span of a few episodes. Early seasons of “Fear” felt migratory even,...

Auckland, Sep 2 (Ians) Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is set to captain New Zealand for the first time in international cricket during the upcoming three-match Odi Series against Bangladesh in Dhaka, said New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) on Saturday.
Ferguson, who recently led the team in tour matches in England, will captain the side in the absence of regular Odi captain Kane Williamson as he continues to recover from a right knee injury, and his deputy Tom Latham, who will miss the series to have time at home before the Icc Cricket World Cup and Test tour to Bangladesh.
“Lockie is an experienced bowler at the international level, and this is an opportunity for him to really lead from the front with not just the bowling group but the team as a whole. He stepped into the role for the warm-up matches in England and led a group, with a lot of moving parts,...

NCIS is one of the most popular procedural dramas ever to air on network television. From the dramatic confrontations to the clever dialogue, the show seems to have it all. However, many fans love NCIS most for the interesting, dynamic characters that it introduced. Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David are undoubtedly two of the most enduring and popular. Played by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, respectively, Dinozzo and Ziva were both fan favorites who each endured their own share of trauma. They also shared red-hot chemistry onscreen, which led many fans to wonder if Weatherly and de Pablo ever dated behind the scenes.

Wellington, Aug 28 (Ians) Jimmy Neesham will no longer join the Black Caps T20 squad to face England following the conclusion of The Hundred and will instead return to New Zealand early to be with his wife ahead of the birth of their first child.
Neesham was due to head to home after the series but a decision has been made for him to return early.
Canterbury’s Cole McConchie was due to travel home following the warm-up matches in England but will now stay on with the squad in England for the duration of the T20 Series.
Black Caps coach Gary Stead said it was important to be flexible at these times.
“We fully support Jimmy’s decision to return home early to be with Alex.”
“The birth of a child is a special time and we are a family environment. We are glad to be able to support Jimmy in heading home.

Auckland, July 19 (Ians) Uncapped players batting all-rounder Dean Foxcroft and leg-spinner Adi Ashok on Wednesday earned their maiden New Zealand call-ups while pace all-rounder Kyle Jamieson made his comeback to the side for next month’s T20 tours of the UAE and England.
New Zealand are scheduled to play three T20Is against the UAE on August 17, 19 and 20, followed by four games in England from August 30 to September 5.
Jamieson is set to return to international cricket more than a year after sustaining a serious back injury in England last June. On the other hand, Foxcroft and Ashok earned their call-ups off the back of representing New Zealand A and impressive domestic form in the recent season.
Foxcroft, born in South Africa, moved to New Zealand in 2016 and is a newly qualified player for the side, having recently received eligibility approval from the Icc under its “exceptional circumstances” criteria.

Auckland, June 8 (Ians) Fast-bowler Adam Milne has been offered a New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) central contract for the first time in five years.
Milne’s elevation to the list comes off the back of his most productive international season, in which he appeared 16 times for the Black Caps (11 T20Is and five ODIs) claiming 24 wickets at an average of 24, including a career-best 5-26 in the second T20I against Sri Lanka, the third best T20I figures by a New Zealander.
The 31-year-old, who made his international debut in 2010, was part of the Black Caps’ past two Icc T20 World Cup campaigns.
Coach Gary Stead said Milne’s offer of a central contract was well-deserved and reflected his strong and ongoing commitment to play international cricket for New Zealand, the New Zealand Cricket said in a report on its website on Thursday.

New Delhi, May 18 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor said if it was up to him, he would have brought veteran opener Martin Guptill in the top four of the Odi side ahead of this year’s World Cup, citing the experience he would bring to the team for the mega event.
Guptill, widely considered as one of New Zealand’s best-ever white-ball openers, last played in an Odi for the Blackcaps in September 2022. Later, he was released from his Nzc central contract after being dropped from the white-ball series against India last year not getting to play a single game in the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Since then, he has been busy playing various T20 leagues like the Big Bash League (Bbl) in Australia. Guptill’s tally currently stands at 7346 runs at an average of 41.73 in 198 ODIs, with a highest individual score of 237 not out.

Karachi, May 4 (Ians) Debutant allrounder Cole McConchie made a bold unbeaten 64 and Tom Blundell (65) top-scored but their efforts went in vain as a series of errors consigned New Zealand to a 26-run defeat in the third Odi, giving hosts Pakistan an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match Odi series.
Chasing Pakistan’s 287/6. build on superb fifties by opener Imam-ul-Haq (90) and skipper Babar Azam (54) at the National Stadium here, the Black Caps were dismissed for 261 in the last over and suffered their third successive defeat in the series.
After skipper Tom Latham won the toss and elected to field first, Tom Blundell, in his first appearance of the series, top-scored but was one of two unnecessary run-out victims as the tourists made a mess of their run chase.
The opener/wicketkeeper cruised to 65 from 78 balls before taking on the arm of Mohammad Wasim when attempting a second run and falling short.

Rawalpindi, April 30 (Ians) Fakhar Zaman smashed his third consecutive Odi century to lead hosts Pakistan to a remarkable record-breaking seven-wicket victory over New Zealand here.
The Pakistan opener hit 17 boundaries and six massive sixes during his unbeaten knock of 180* as the Asian side successfully chased down New Zealand’s healthy total of 336/5 with 10 deliveries to spare.
A host of records fell during the match, as Fakhar became just the fourth Pakistan batter to hit three straight Odi centuries and also claimed the honour of being the fastest player from the country to bring up 3000 Odi runs, reports Icc.
Pakistan’s total of 337/3 was also the fourth highest Odi score by Pakistan’s men’s team in an Odi and their second best run chase.

Rawalpindi, April 28 (Ians) Pakistan opener Fakhar Zamans ninth century in Odi cricket helped the hosts secure a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the series opener at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Through this, Pakistan also claimed their 500th win in ODIs, becoming only the third team to do so after Australia and India.

Every month brings a new slate of entertainment to streaming services everywhere, but each turn of the calendar also brings the tragic removal of a list of movies and television shows. While Netflix is debuting a bevy of releases in May 2023, the streaming service is losing some treasured titles. Good thing you have this guide to make sure you catch everything that may have been sitting in your Netflix queue before they mysteriously disappear.
Unfortunately, juggling distribution rights in the ongoing proliferation of streaming services makes it a headache to keep up with who owns what. HBO Max is the biggest offender of losing its own original content, as the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery and the induction of CEO David Zaslav has wiped a chunk of HBO Max exclusives from the platform. Rawalpindi, April 25 (Ians) Left-handed batter Mark Chapman was on Tuesday added to the New Zealand Odi squad for the five-game series against Pakistan, which starts here on Thursday.
Head coach Gary Stead said Chapman’s performances throughout the five match T20 series, which ended in 2-2, were extremely compelling.
“The way Mark’s played against one of the best T20 bowling attacks in the world has been nothing short of outstanding. His match-winning knock in the fifth and deciding match was particularly special and we’re happy to have someone in such strong form added to our Odi squad,” said Stead in a media release.

Thus far in its development, the fate of the Galaxy Quest TV series has been less "never give up, never surrender!" and more "eh… Give up. Surrender". It's a big day for "Star Trek" news. First, Paramount+ announced the long-developing "Star Trek: Discovery" spinoff series "Section 31" has been reworked as a streaming movie. Now we have word the streaming platform is also planning to send the crew of the Nsea Protector on a new mission in the form of a "Galaxy Quest" TV series.
Okay, fine, Dean Parisot's semi-cult 1999 sci-fi action-comedy isn't technically a "Star Trek" film, but it is an unabashed and loving send-up of Gene Roddenberry's creation (one that "Star Trek" fans adore for its playful skewering of the franchise). The movie centers on the cast of the titular fictional TV show, a "Star Trek"-styled 1980s space adventure series that's mistaken for being a collection of "historical documents" by a naive extra-terrestrial race known as the Thermians. Facing extinction at the hands of the sadistic other-worldly warlord Sarris, the Thermians turn to...

There has been interest in making a small screen follow-up to the 1999 sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest (watch it Here) for several years. Back in 2015, Paramount TV Studios got a Galaxy Quest TV series set up at Amazon, with the film’s writer Robert Gordon working on the script and director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson also attached. Much of the film’s cast – which included Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and Enrico Colantoni – was expected to return… but unfortunately, the project was derailed when Rickman passed away in 2016, and not even a new script from Paul Scheer (The League) was able to get it back on track. Now Paramount TV Studios is giving Galaxy Quest another try, and The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the TV series is set up at the Paramount+ streaming service.

A “Galaxy Quest” series is in early development, this time at Paramount+.
Variety has learned that Paramount+ and Paramount Television Studios are in the nascent stages of adapting the cult classic comedy film into a television show. At this time, the only member of the creative team officially attached is Mark Johnson, who produced the original film and would serve as an executive producer on the potential series.
Paramount Television Studios and Paramount+ declined to comment.
This is the latest attempt to adapt “Galaxy Quest” for the small screen. It was previously reported in 2015 that Amazon was developing a series version that would have reunited the film’s cast, but those plans ended upon the death of Alan Rickman. There have since been various writers attached to the project, though none of their versions have ultimately gone forward.

Getting a Galaxy Quest TV series off the ground has been a goal for Paramount TV Studios over the past eight years. The original idea was to do a continuation of the movie with the same cast, and Johnson was initially joined by the feature’s writer, Robert Gordon and director, Dean Parisot. Hamilton, March 31 (Ians) Sri Lanka have failed to snatch the eight spot in the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League table after losing to New Zealand in the third Odi here.
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka opted to bat first in the crucial encounter. But the Sri Lankan batters failed to fire yet again, struggling against the pace and bounce of the New Zealand bowlers.
Matt Henry (3/14), Henry Shipley (3/32) and Daryl Mitchell (3/32) were all outstanding with the ball, as Sri Lanka huffed and puffed to cross the 150-run mark.
For Sri Lanka, Pathum Nissanka (57 off 64), Dasun Shanaka (31 off 36) and Chamika Karunaratne (24 off 42) were the only batters to show any form of resistance. The visitors were bowled out for 157 in 41.3 overs, with their bowlers now facing a herculean task of getting their side over the line.

Auckland, March 26 (Ians) Left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham will return to T20I action for the first time since 2021 to lead New Zealand in their upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home and then facing Pakistan in away conditions.
Latham will captain both squads which feature potential debutants in Chad Bowes and Henry Shipley, along with several players returning to T20I on the back of strong international and domestic form, with regular New Zealand players set to feature in the Indian Premier League (Ipl).
“We saw against India earlier this season the power and range of shots that Tom possesses. His adaptability also means he can feature in a range of batting positions. He led an inexperienced T20 squad to Bangladesh in 2021 and we were really impressed with his leadership of that group during a Covid bubble tour,” said head coach Gary Stead in a statement.

Lucknow, Jan 29 (Ians) A sensational performance by the bowlers followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s hard-fought knock guided India to a nervy six-wicket win over New Zealand in the second T20I and levelled the three-match series 1-1 on a spin-friendly pitch at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
The low-scoring encounter also witnessed an unusual feat as not a single six was hit on 239 legal deliveries bowled during the second T20I.
Spinners spun the web and took the first five wickets of New Zealand, who never got the momentum throughout the batting innings. The Indian pacers then did a brilliant finishing job as the visitors were restricted to 99/8 in 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh (2-7) was the most successful bowler for India while Yuzvendra Chahal (1-4), Kuldeep Yadav (1-17), Deepak Hooda (1-17), Washington Sundar (1/17) and Hardik Pandya (1/25) also picked vital wickets at regular intervals.

Lucknow, Jan 29 (Ians) New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the second T20I of the three-match series at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
New Zealand, who are leading the series 1-0, didn’t make any changes to their side.
“We are gonna have a bat. The stats say that it’s challenging to chase here. We’ll try to get some runs on the board and see what it does. We had a tough one-day series, it was nice to bounce back with a win. Different guys stepping up at different times is always nice,” said Santner at the toss.
“It’s never easy to beat India at home. That partnership between Surya and Hardik put them right back in the game. The key is to take wickets through the middle, that’s...
