Aston Villa have signed Chelsea left back Ryan Bertrand on loan until the end of the season.
Capped twice by England, 24-year-old Bertrand has been out of favour under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge this season. He is behind Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole in the Blues pecking order.
Bertrand embarks upon his sixth different loan spell from Chelsea following temporary stints at Bournemouth, Oldham, Norwich, Reading and Nottingham Forest. He was a regular last term under Roberto Di Matteo and Rafa Benitez, making 38 Blues appearances in all competitions, but since Mourinho returned he has played just three games.
Villa boss Paul Lambert told the club’s official website:
“Ryan brings a lot of big-game experience, not only in the Barclays Premier League but even a Champions League final which Chelsea won, so he’ll be really good for us.“

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert wants to bring Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Naughton to the West Midlands.
The Sunday Mirror reports that the 25-year-old fullback could be available for a cut-price £3 million. Lambert is keen on Naughton, who played under him at Norwich City two seasons ago.
Naughton has been in and out of the team at Spurs, covering either right or left back when injury and suspensions have left the likes of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose unavailable. He and Walker joined Tottenham together from Sheffield United in 2009 for undisclosed fees.
Since Tim Sherwood took over as Hotspur head coach from Andre Villas-Boas, Naughton has played just one game. Villa have chopped and changed their fullbacks this season with Leandro Bacuna and another Blades academy product Matthew Lowton getting games on the right.
Joe Bennett and Antonio Luna – a summer signing from Sevilla – have vied for the left back berth.

Aston Villa host Premier League champions Manchester United on Sunday knowing their opponents have won on their last two visits to the West Midlands.
David Moyes’s men are 13 points off the pace in the title race this term going into the weekend fixtures. The Red Devils also have a mounting injury crisis which keeps key names from the spine of their side out.
Paul Lambert prepares for the champions knowing his charges have been better on the road than at Villa Park this season. Eleventh place in the table might look comfortable, but Villa are only six points above the relegation zone after 15 matches.

Aston Villa could have up to five players returning from injury against Sunderland. Gabriel Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann and Fabian Delph came off the bench against The Baggies, while Antonio Luna and Gary Gardner could also feature following spells on the sidelines. (BBC Sport)
Sunderland have Andrea Dossena and Lee Cattermole available again after serving a three match ban each, but face competition for a starting place. Gus Poyet is also hoping to have Modibo Diakite and Kieren Westwood available again following injuries. Aston Villa’s poor run has stemmed from the dip in form of their front trio Gabriel Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann, and Christian Benteke. They will be without Agbonlahor and Weimann for the Cardiff clash, which means a new look attacking pairing again for Lambert’s men. Left-back continues to be a problem area for the Midlands side, with Antonion Luna and Joe Bennett both ruled out with injury – leaving Lambert to stick with a makeshift left-side with Leandro Bacuna set to deputise.
Cardiff City are playing with confidence, but have had unwanted distractions from the club’s owner Vincent Tan. Nevertheless, they will still be on cloud nine following the Swansea victory and will regard this weekend’s match as winnable considering Aston Villa poor home form – with just one win at Villa Park this season.

For West Ham United; Matt Taylor, Alou Diarra, James Collins, Andy Carroll, Ricardo Vaz Te and Stephen Henderson are all confirmed absentees. Mladen Petric and James Tomkins are doubtful for the clash, so manager Sam Allardyce is hardly spoilt for choice with his squad.
The Villans are short of options at left-back, with Antonio Luna and Joe Bennett both ruled out of action, meaning centre-back Nathan Baker could deputise in their absence. Forward Gabriel Agbonlahor is also doubtful, meaning Lambert will most likely give the out-of-form Andi Weimann a start.
The home side find themselves in poor form of late, with just one win in their last eight games. The Hammers are in 15th place with 9 points from 9 games and are likely to once again be without a recognised striker. West Ham’s home...

This weekend sees a hotly anticipated return to Premier League action after the imposed hiatus of the international break. Fans and players alike will be looking forward to getting back to club football. I will be looking at Aston Villa v Newcastle a game in which both teams will be looking to accentuate their respective abilities.
Aston Villa
After a strong finish to the season under Paul Lambert last term, Aston Villa were handed a bleak set of starting fixtures for the 13-14 campaign. After making some really good acquisitions in the summer transfer window and moving on some of the ‘dead wood’ many were unsure what to expect from Villa this term. An opening day 3-1 away demolition of a slow starting Arsenal was thoroughly deserved and perhaps illustrated the capabilities of this young Villa squad. The Barclays Premier League returned at the weekend with a bang: controversy, shock wins and of course a set of new managers that would surprise even the football detractors of the world.
Three of last season’s top four sides changed their managers over the summer with only Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger remaining, making the Frenchman the longest serving, current, Premier League manager.
The biggest shock obviously came at Old Trafford where after over a quarter of a century in the hot-seat at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson retired leaving fellow Glaswegian David Moyes to take the reins.
At Stamford Bridge we witnessed the return of ‘The Special One’ or as he now likes to be called, ‘The Happy One’.
The third change was at Manchester City where after a poor season for Roberto Mancini, in which he didn’t win anything, he was swiftly fired and replaced by Manuel Pellegrini.

The Premier League made an exciting start to the 2013-14 season. A couple of surprise results on the opening weekend and lots of entertainment to discuss.
Arsenal and Newcastle fans were left disappointed with their team’s results over the weekend, whilst Manchester City were chanting about ending the first week top of the league.
A number of players made their debut and four of them scored a goal – Ricky van Wolfswinkel , Antonio Luna, Wilfried Bony and Roberto Soldado.
Last season’s top 3; Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all produced impressive victories whilst Arsenal were the only team from last year’s top 7 to lose.
Of the five new managers, Mark Hughes was the only one to suffer defeat. Roberto Martínez’s Everton picked up 1 point, whilst David Moyes, Manuel Pellegrini and José Mourinho all won.

Paul Lambert was given his toughest pre-season test when his Villa side took on a Malaga team already full of confidence
after some inspiring pre-season results themselves, including a 3-3 draw away to Galatasary, but the Villains emerged the victors after Christian Benteke fired another double to beat last year’s 6th place finishers in La Liga.
A headed goal from defender Ron Vlaar rounded out the scoring for Villa between Benteke’s double, and an own goal from new boy Jores Okore, and an impressive strike from Darder made it two for the Spanish visitors.
Villa’s line up probably reflected, or would be very close to the side that will start against Arsenal next week, and that victory against a side who progressed well in the Champions League last year can be cause for confidence.

A lot has already been said and written about the historical inaccuracies of Mark Meily's El Presidente, how the glamour project dastardly re-portrayed historical figures to suit enlarged egos and their enlarged pockets. Andres Bonifacio (played with a notable lack of charm by Cesar Montano), the founder of the Philippine revolution who was tragically killed by his fellow men, is depicted as a severely sore loser. Antonio Luna (played, complete with gritting teeth, by Christopher de Leon), a top-ranking general of the revolutionary government who was murdered, is shown to be cruel, despotic and deserving of his embarrassing death as a matter of narrative logic. Emilio Aguinaldo (played with uncharacteristic and unbelievable nobility by Jorge Estregan), the titular president, reaps all the rewards of Meily's...

Though defeat was almost certainly in their futures at some point, it's nonetheless surprising to see that both Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort fell during the Sweet 16. For his part, Dumbledore's downfall came at the hands of former colleague Professor Remus Lupin.

Opens: May 26th 2011
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifinakis, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong
Director: Todd Phillips
Summary: Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned.
Analysis: It really wasn't until about three months before its release that Warner Brothers realised "The Hangover" was going to be a hit. Test screening response was through the roof, while the trailer had great reaction after premiering at ShoWest and online. About that time they commissioned director Todd Phillips, along with his "Old School" and "Road Trip" scribe Scot Armstrong, to pen a sequel. Yet they still waited to see how the first one went before fully committing to the follow-up.
The wait didn't last long.
