Falling Skies felt like wheel-spin this week, but its portrayal of war continues to impress. Here's Ron's review...
This review contain spoilers.
5.4 Pope Breaks Bad
It seems that the characters on Falling Skies have had a hard time adjusting to the world of war. They've been fighting for three years, and admirably, they haven't stopped fighting. That's one of the reasons Cochise and the other Volm are impressed by the inferior but troublesome race of man-animals using primitive gunpowder weapons to bring down Espheni. Of course, not all humans have the power of positive thinking best demonstrated by the Mason family. Some humans find themselves damaged by the war, haunted by those that have been lost (or those yet to be lost), becoming tired and hungry and traumatized. Some humans are ready to turn on their own kind.
The weak link in the Second Mass is, as always, John Pope.

Agent Carter, Season 1, Episode 5, “The Iron Ceiling”
Written by Jose Molina
Directed by Peter Leto
Airs at 9pm (Et) on Tuesdays on ABC
“The Iron Ceiling” is the episode Agent Carter has been building to all season, and the kind of hour it needs most at this point in its run, now that the show’s world is mostly established. The episode more than makes up for the minimal forward momentum in the Howard Stark/Leviathan quadrants, with increasing character depth and backstories for multiple auxiliary players that until now have been given short shrift. A big problem that the show needs to work around is that everyone besides Howard, and maybe Jarvis, exists only to support Peggy or expand on her as a character. Some headway is made with this during the team’s trip to Russia to intercept the transfer of blueprints between Leviathon and a mystery seller...

Plot:
Ted Grant finds himself at the heart of Arrow’s investigation into multiple gangland murders, which brings up the former-Boxer’s past to both Oliver and Laurel. Meanwhile Roy believes that he is Sara’s killer, and shares this secret with Felicity.
Verdict:
I loved how the series managed to use the famous Boxing glove arrow in this episode, making it both necessary and believable in it’s scene (more so than glove that inflates on the end of a trick arrow in the comics or cartoons). But that was the only real humorous and ingenious moment in this otherwise gritty and bleak episode (I nearly forgot to mention the memory game with Akio during the flashbacks, but it didn’t stick in the mind like the boxing glove had), which is something I would like to see change.

Arrow Season 3, Episode 6 “Guilty”
Written by Erik Oleson & Keto Shimizu
Directed by Peter Leto
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm Et on The CW
Not every episode can be a home run; after a relatively strong half-dozen episodes to start the season, “Guilty” is the first dud of Arrow’s third season, a story undone by its simplistic parallels and relying on the show’s two most inconsistent charcters (Roy and Laurel) to deliver them. Sure, it gives us some background on Wildcat, and appears to raise the stakes in the season’s tepid flashbacks… but it’s not enough to reconcile the shortcomings of the rest of the hour, even with the devilishly fun ending tacked on the end.
Ok, there is one good reason to watch “Guilty”: it gives us the boxing glove arrow, a nifty homage thrown in to one of Green Arrow’s goofiest comic book weapons.

Ted Grant Is Accused Of Murder — After a body is found strung up in the Wildcat gym,Ted Grant (J.R. Ramirez) becomes the main suspect. Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Laurel (KatieCassidy) argue over Ted’s innocence. Meanwhile, in flashbacks, when Maseo (Karl Yune) needsOliver to remember where an informant for China White stashed key information, he asks Tatsu(guest star Rila Fukushima) to help jog Oliver’s memory. Roy (Colton Haynes) shares a secret withFelicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Peter Leto directed the episode written by Erik Oleson; KetoShimizu. So, a pretty short synopsis for this episode, but at least we know that the future Wildcat will be playing a major role in Laurel's life (and likely her transformation into Black Canary) throughout this season. While Arrow may not be part of DC's Cinematic Universe, nods to characters who have appeared in the past like China White is why fans love this series!
