Jerry Lewis‘s death was caused by heart failure, the Clark County Nevada Coroner tells People.
Specifically, doctors attributed his death to “end stage cardiac disease due to peripheral vascular disease.”
The legendary comedian died on Sunday, according to his daughter and manager Danielle, who confirmed that “he passed peacefully at home of natural causes with his loving family at his side.”
Lewis has had a long history of illness. In June, he was hospitalized in Las Vegas after developing a urinary tract infection. In June 2006, Lewis suffered a mild heart attack in San Diego.

After taking the world by storm with one of the most beloved comedy acts of all time, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis bitterly ended their partnership 10 years to the day after it began.
The two men, different in almost every way except maybe stubbornness, refused to speak to each other for 20 years, until their mutual friend Frank Sinatra surprised them with a forced and uncomfortable onstage reunion in 1976. It would take another ten years after that before they were able to establish a more lasting reconciliation, which they maintained until Martin’s death in 1995.

A little over two decades ago, Martin Scorsese cast insult-comic legend Don Rickles in his movie Casino as Billy Sherbert, a casino manager who works with Robert De Niro's character Sam Rothstein. While making the movie, he bonded with the director, who has penned a statement paying tribute to the late comedian.
"Don Rickles was a giant, a legend ... and I can hear his voice now, skewering me for being so lofty," Scorsese wrote. "I had the honor of working with him on my picture Casino. He was a professional.

Warner Home Video, in association with Paramount Pictures, is commemorating the 50th anniversary of Jerry Lewis' "The Nutty Professor" with the release of a deluxe Blu-ray gift set. The film is understandably Lewis' personal favorite- and with good reason. His clever comedic take on the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde legend remains a remarkably inventive and funny film, with Lewis not only in the director's chair, but also giving a tour-de-force performance as the nerdy academic who manages to transform himself into a different kind of "monster"- a suave lady's man with a huge ego and no regard for the people in his life. In a personal letter included in the set, Lewis states: "This is a very special film with a lot of heart and soul. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, directing, acting, editing, scoring and extensive promotion of the film. It is what I always dreamed...
