Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ death last Thursday on the set of Rust is the latest in a long list of camera crew members who have been killed on the job, making camera work far and away the most dangerous work in Hollywood, more deadly than even stunts.
In the last 10 years, four members of camera teams have been killed on the set in the US – twice the number of stunt fatalities.
Camera crews work directly in front of the action, with nothing but their cameras between them and a speeding car, train or bullet. They’ve been killed in airplane and helicopter crashes; washed overboard and drowned in the ocean; struck and killed by a runaway stunt car; and crushed to death in a camera truck rollover.

Back when we did our Class of 1986 series years ago, one of the films that I decided to champion was The Wraith from writer/director Mike Marvin, which I hadn’t really seen discussed a whole lot amongst genre fans. Hopefully, that will now change with the brand new Vestron Blu-ray that came out last week, because if there’s any justice in this world, this horror/action hybrid will finally end up on more folks’ radars with this new release. It may not be the most original genre movie to come out of the ‘80s, but considering its stellar cast, incredible soundtrack, and a handful of mind-blowingly great driving sequences, The Wraith is very much a movie that should earn a rediscovery phase now.
The Wraith tells the story of a teenager named Jamie who is murdered by a street-racing gang, led by the maniacal Packard (Nick Cassavetes). Soon after,...

John Wick stars action star Keanu Reeves as the eponymous hero of the story, a retired hitman seeking revenge on a band of gangsters.
Directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, John Wick begins with the death of John’s dog, one of the last things left that remind him of his late wife. When John finds out that his dog was killed by a group of thugs – ones connected to his former employer – he decides to come out of retirement to exact revenge. The flick also stars Ian McShane, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Willen Dafoe, John Leguizamo and Bridget Moynahan.
'John Wicks' Reviewed
Across the board, critics have praised John Wick as a refreshing take on the assassin and revenge subgenres among action films. It’s stylish, short on filler dialogue and builds up slowly to unleash the chaos. For Reeves, John Wick is said to provide a return to form.

The heroes in a half shell are back, and this time they are the most realistic looking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever, thanks to Industrial Light & Magic's performance-capture technology. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman (but produced by Michael Bay and Nickelodeon), the newest reboot distinctly targets younger viewers but still has a PG-13 rating, mostly due to sci-fi violence and a scary looking Shredder. It hasn't gotten good reviews, but most critics admit that this is a movie that has more kid than nostalgia appeal.
But first, here are five questions to consider before taking the kids to see "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
1. How familiar is your kid with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Luckily, your kids don't need to know anything about the Turtles to enjoy or understand the movie. It helps if they do know basic things about Donnie, Rapha, Leo, and Mikey, but even if they've only seen the Turtles on backpacks or commercials,...

Universal Pictures released their new horror/thriller flick, "The Purge 2: Anarchy" into theaters this weekend, and all the top movie critics have turned in their reviews. It got a pretty mediocre/mixed response from them with an overall 49 score out of a possible 100 across 31 reviews at the Metacritic.com site. The film stars: Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, and Keith Stanfield. We've added blurbs from a few of the critics, below. Manohla Dargis from The New York Times, gave it a 70 grade, saying: "Kill or be killed isn’t the official tag line of The Purge: Anarchy, but it fits. It would also make a more suitable title for this satisfyingly creepy, blunt, down-and-dirty thriller, one of those follow-ups that improves on the original." Frank Scheck from The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 70 score. He stated: "The Purge: Anarchy efficiently exploits its high-concept...
