As the Wham! feature documentary on Netflix begins, you’ll hear lots of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley voiceovers about what fun they had: “When I was with Andrew, we were absolutely determined to have a fantastic time,” Michael says, and then Ridgeley adds: “Wham! was a brotherhood, it was playful”. All the while, you’ll be waiting for the big “But…” change in tone hinting that all was not quite as it seemed, and that this documentary is about to reveal some darker hidden truths.
Let us save you some time: there’s no “but”. This is a joyful celebration of Wham!, pure and simple. The documentary title – an uncomplicated, cartoony Wham! – says it all. What’s coming is a good, old-fashioned jukebox romp through this eighties pop duo’s short but brightly burning four-year stint at the top of the charts.
The narration is effective in its simplicity...

Pat Sharp has said he is “truly sorry” for a vulgar remark he made to a woman while hosting an awards show.
The Fun House presenter, 61, was presenting the Conference News Agency Awards on Friday (3 March), when a comment he made, designed to be a joke, fell flat in the room of approximately 400 people.
Sources in attendance at the ceremony claimed that Sharp handed a woman a T-shirt that had a picture of his face and mulleted hair, from the 1980s, alongside the phrase: “Looking Sharp since 1982.”
When the woman joined Sharp onstage, these sources told Deadline that he made an inappropriate comment about his image being on her chest.
According to Sharp’s rep, he told her: “That’s the only way I’m going to get on your t***.” The rep added that the joke was meant as a double entendre for the phrase “get on your nerves...

Exclusive: Pat Sharp, the British presenter known for his work on Top of the Pops and Fun House, has said he is “truly sorry” after making a lewd remark to a woman while hosting an events industry awards show.
The 61-year-old broadcaster, who shot to fame in the 1980s, was compèring the Conference News Agency Awards last Friday when he made a joke that shocked a room of around 400 people, according to several sources.
The incident has coincided with Greatest Hits Radio announcing today that Sharp is leaving the Bauer Media Group station to “explore other opportunities.” It is understood that Bauer made a decision some time ago not to renew Sharp’s contract, which expires at the end of March. However, having been made aware of the incident, Bauer said Sharp will “not return to the station with immediate effect.”

A new audio production and podcast label, Listen Entertainment, has been launched to help TV content creators tune into the power of audio.
There is an increasing cross-pollination of podcasts and TV content, with audio series being developed for the small screen and spinoffs of television IP such as “The Chernobyl Podcast” getting traction.
Listen Ent. is born of the creative team at Wisebuddah, a London-based studio and audio production business. Adam Uytman, director of content at Wisebuddah, and Josh Adley, director of commercial relations, are leaving the company to set up the new firm, alongside executive director Tim Hammond.
The trio have bought the Wisebuddah production business, including its current roster of work. Its recent output includes “The Gemma Collins Podcast” for the BBC’s new audio app, BBC Sounds; the true-crime podcast “Beyond Reasonable Doubt”; and “The Greatest Dancer Podcast,” which accompanied the eponymous BBC One TV series from Syco and Fremantle.

American Idol was announced to be coming to an end after 15 seasons yesterday (May 12), but did you know that Ryan Seacrest used to have a co-host?
Brian Dunkleman hosted the Fox competition's first season alongside Ryan Seacrest, before the latter took sole control. History has not been kind to poor old Brian since, with Fox TV CEO Dana Walden joking about a possible reunion for the pair.
"Where is Brian Dunkleman? If you give me his number, I will call and invite him," she joked, though Dunkleman gave as good as he got last night:
I knew American Idol would never last without me #Cancelled

To honour Dunkleman, we have collected a few hosts of massive shows that you may have cruelly forgotten, starting with the man himself.

Veteran broadcaster Paul Gambaccini has taken a swipe at the BBC's new reality show The Voice UK. Radio 2 star Gambaccini described the Saturday night music series as "karaoke" and claimed that the Us version on NBC had only benefited the show's star coaches, rather than the musical acts. "The Voice is a karaoke competition, full stop," Gambaccini told the Radio Times. "Although the American series was fantastic to rejuvenate the careers of two of the judges [Christina Aguilera and Maroon 5's Adam Levine], it didn't give us a viable artist." Fellow DJ Mark Goodier also questioned the motives of Universal Music, (more)...
