Leading up to the series finale of Shameless, many fans wondered whether Emmy Rossum's Fiona Gallagher would return for the show's eleventh season. While there had been plans for Rossum - who originally left the show after season nine - to return, scheduling conflicts due to Covid-19 ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.
"We were trying to get Emmy - and Emmy wanted to come back. We caught it at the wrong moment. We wanted her to return and had some storylines about her coming back and she wanted to do it," showrunner John Wells told The Hollywood Reporter. "It was impossible to figure out how to get her back. That was the biggest disappointment: not being able to make that work out because we all wanted it to happen. A very minor but sad result of everything that's happened in the pandemic."

While in the midst of celebrating Kamala Harris’ debate performance on social media, Emmy Rossum also took time to confront an internet troll shaming her for frequent nude scenes in her film and television work (via Uproxx). Rossum posted on Twitter that she couldn’t wait to purchase a shirt with the phrase “I’m speaking” printed on it, referring to Harris’ comeback to Mike Pence during the debate.
Rossum’s comment prompted a Twitter user to respond by suggesting Rossum might have more interest in a shirt with the words “I get paid to get naked on TV” printed on it. During her near-decade on the Showtime series “Shameless,” Rossum often appeared in sex scenes. The actress snapped back to the troll: “I get paid to tell stories and life sometimes involves this awesome thing called sex. Maybe you’ve just never had any so you don’t know.

Emmy Rossum shared some words of support for her former Shameless cast and crew on Monday, following the announcement that season 11 would be its last. "Just learned about Shameless on Twitter! Eleven seasons is ten more than most shows get! Bravo to an incredible run for a wonderful cast and crew," the 33-year-old actress tweeted.
Rossum left the series last year during the ninth season, with a beautiful ode to her character Fiona Gallagher. It's no surprise she had words of love for her Shameless family, given how close they were while filming. There's no expectation yet that she'll reprise her role, but we can always wish. Seems only right that Fiona returns to the South Side for old times' sake.

“Shameless” fans will get a double serving of the Gallagher family in 2020. The long-running Showtime comedy will air its 11th and final season this summer, just a handful of months after its 10th season, which still has a few weeks left, will wrap.
Showtime’s entertainment president Gary Levine explained why they made such a quick call on “Shameless” and the decision to move it up to the summer. They wanted it to air alongside “On Becoming a God in Central Florida.”
“We wanted it on earlier, because we wanted to strengthen our summer and we also wanted to provide a great lead-in for ‘On Becoming a God’ in its second season,” Levine told TheWrap on Monday during the Television Critics Association press tour. “It just feels like a strong compatible lead-in.” He added that he’s not sure if Emmy Rossum, who starred on the series for its first nine seasons,...

Shameless’s Gallagher family will gear up for one last season, with Showtime’s renewal for an eleventh and final season.
Shameless Season 11 is officially set, marking a monumental swan song for the veteran Showtime series.
The confirmation of Shameless’s final season was made by Showtime Networks President of Entertainment, Gary Levine, at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour. With the final frame set, the irreverently-embattled working-class dramedy series – which launched on Showtime on January 9, 2011 – is on track to make the decade mark with its eleventh season. While no official release date was provided for Shameless Season 11, the show typically premieres in the fall, meaning that the final season would presumably spill into 2021. Indeed, the currently-running Season 10 – kicked off back in November 2019 – will round the finish line on January 26.

Nothing says it's time for Fall like a return to Chicago to catch up with the Gallaghers! Shameless, Showtime's hit family drama, is returning for its 10th season on Nov. 3, and it's a whole new ballgame. The upcoming season will be the first without former leading lady Emmy Rossum. Rossum's character, family matriarch Fiona Gallagher, leaves Chicago for greener pastures at the end of last season. After a long season of letdowns and disappointments, she packs her suitcase and takes her first flight ever right out of the South Side.
Season 10 will see the Gallaghers dealing with their problems without Fiona, and they have a lot of problems. According to Showtime, we'll meet back up with the family six months after the events of season nine, as Carl comes home from military school, Liam attempts to learn more about black culture, and Frank uses his leg injury to collect as many drugs as possible.

Including replays, on-demand viewing and streaming, the finale rose to a total of 2.24 million viewers, which is up 10 percent from last week’s overall-eyeballs tally when adding in those platforms, and slightly above the Season 9 premiere, which scored 2.23 million total viewers with those numbers counted.

When Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) said her goodbyes to her father, Frank (William H. Macy), on Shameless, well, it wasn't exactly a warm goodbye. Frank, recuperating and unable to move from the couch, had a brisk exchange with his daughter as she left for…who knows where. As she went for the door, the two spoke. "Afraid if I stay, I won't ever leave," Fiona told Frank about the planned party Lip (Jeremy Allen White) was planning for her. "You did a good job…you stepped in and helped. Thanks," Frank said. "Helped? I did it all, Frank," Fiona said. "Well, if that helps you sleep better," Frank said. "See you around,...

Goodbye, Fiona. Emmy Rossum left Shameless on Sunday, March 10 during the season nine finale, but Showtime wasn't going to let you off that easily. The network released a "Thank you" video to Rossum and her character, Fiona Gallagher that is sure to get the waterworks going. The video below looks back at Fiona's journey from eldest sibling to caretaker and everything in between. "Nothing is bigger than family," she says in the video. A perfect statement to sum up the character. In her last episode, Fiona continued on her sobriety quest, realized used her check for $100,000 to pay off a court-ordered fine, gave $50,000 to Debbie (Emma Kenney) and used the rest of the $50,000 to leave...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s Shameless finale.
Shameless said goodbye to its leading lady Emmy Rossum on Sunday night with a finale that saw matriarch Fiona Gallagher leave Chicago behind.
After visiting Ian in prison and getting a pep talk from her brother, a scared Fi decided to take her newfound wealth (thanks, Max!) and start fresh somewhere else. While Lip, Debbie and the rest of her siblings readied to throw her a farewell bash, Fiona took her one suitcase and quietly slipped out of the house — but not before, once again, not getting her due from Frank.

Fiona Gallagher has left her family behind and is starting a new journey of her own.
Shameless Season 9 Episode 14 gave Fiona the perfect opportunity to move on with her life, well away from the South Side.
It was an ambiguous exit, for sure, but it was true to the character. If you watch Shameless online, you know that Fiona has been happy multiple times, but it's always temporary.
Things get in the way, she falls off the rails, and when she falls, she falls hard. Having the $100k gave her a once in a lifetime opportunity, and she needed to utilize it in the best way she could.
"Found" chronicled Fiona's sudden realization that her family has grown up to the point that they don't rely on her as much as they once did.

A check for $100,000 set Fiona Gallagher free. The season nine finale of Shameless, titled "Home," marked the last for Emmy Rossum's character Fiona. Fitting, since the penultimate episode of the season was titled "Lost" and featured the character still trying to land on her feet after a serious of setbacks. So, what happened to Fiona? Warning, spoilers follow. The episode, while Fiona's last, remained very much an ensemble installment. Throughout the episode, Fiona sensed she was no longer needed as the mother hen, the kids are growing and Debbie (Emma Kenney) is stepping up. Her court case for punching a woman who called the cops on Liam's lemonade stand was dismissed with a $2,500 and time...

During Sunday's season nine finale, Rossum's Fiona Gallagher left Chicago's South Side on a plane — her first flight! — as she took advantage of her latest chance for a new life.
To hear showrunner John Wells tell it, Fiona's decision to move to warmer climates is born out of a realization that for her, most of her siblings are either grown or don't need her as much as they used to.

It's a big night for Emmy Rossum. Rossum's final episode of Shameless airs tonight, and she took a moment to reflect on her career on the show and what it all means to her. Rossum, who plays the character Fiona Gallagher, shared a still from the pilot episode where she's wearing a blue coat, blue and red scarf and holding a flip phone. Remember what those are?! "Here is a picture taken eight years ago during our pilot," she captioned the picture. "Today, 110 episodes later, I am filled with gratitude for my shameless family and for our faithful audience." Rossum continued, "I'll be watching with love and can't wait to see what comes next." The Cold...

Shameless Season 9 Episode 14
“I feel like I got a second chance…”
Shameless Season 9 has been all over the map, largely in part due to the random and frenetic storylines that have pulled the season in various directions. Remember Courtney Cox’s stint as that rehab-bound celebrity? Neither do I. This schizophrenic feeling that has dominated much of this season is fortunately absent in “Found,” thanks to a strong underlying theme that helps give it focus.
This is an episode that is is all about futures and getting trapped in a certain path or choosing to escape from it. This is obviously most prevalent with Fiona, who actually exits the series in this episode, but nearly every member of the Gallagher family makes drastic life decisions that will shape their future in this finale.

It's the end of an era for Shameless. The hit Showtime series is marking the end of season nine on Sunday, March 10 and with the finale comes a departure: Emmy Rossum. Rossum announced her exit from the series in August 2018 in a heartfelt note. Fans have watched her character Fiona Gallagher flounder through season nine. "She's never going to be replaced; we're just gonna have to figure out how to work it without her. As sad as I am to lose Emmy as an acting partner, it's kind of exciting because it's gonna be a different show; it'll mix things up," Jeremy Allen White told Variety. Shameless Season 9 Episode 13
The real goodbye begins. While tonight’s episode of Shameless only revealed its exit strategy for Fiona Gallagher in the final moments, in which her scuzzy yet strangely forthright business partner offered her a quasi-deus ex machina (we’ll get to that), the whole episode felt like the true beginning of Shameless’ farewell to Emmy Rossum. A week ago, she and Lip were practically coming to blows, but tonight they’ve reached a level of détente and even grace as he supports his sister’s strength—a surprise given how little faith he seemed to have in her two weeks ago. It might feel expedited for the sake of narrative efficiency with only two episodes left, but it was something else—authentically Gallagher.

March 10 will mark the end of a (near) decade-long era on Shameless when Emmy Rossum makes her last appearance as Fiona Gallagher in the Showtime drama’s Season 9 finale. And as the actress tells it, the show does right by her alter ego.
“[Fiona] goes to start to make her life elsewhere, and the way in which she says goodbye is quite moving,” Rossum tells EW.com, adding that the circumstances leading up to her exit were previously foreshadowed. “Something that was set up… kind of pays off for Fiona. A door opens and she walks through.”

Shameless Season 9 Episode 12
After last week’s genuinely devastating cliffhanger, in which Lip commanded Fiona to leave the house, my interest was so piqued by Gallagher drama—probably for the first time in the season 9 back-half—that I went back and rewatched some of the very first season on Netflix. I don’t know how many years it’s been since I watched those early Shameless adventures, but the experience was bittersweet. While the show must go on (literally), it seems inevitable that it’ll be a different beast after Emmy Rossum makes her exit, so going back to where it began was obviously a shot of nostalgia to the bloodstream. However, it was also a few more things too: Like a...

Not that I blame those states considering one of the few times I had Four Loko, it led to the worst hangovers of my life. Take a look at new images of actress Emmy Rossum ("Shameless") in The February 2019 issue of "Shape" magazine:
Rossum, noted as a television director and singer-songwriter is best known for her portrayal of 'Fiona Gallagher' in the TV series "Shameless".
Her breakout role was in Mystic River (2003), followed by the science-fiction feature "The Day After Tomorrow" (2004), receiving critical acclaim for her performance as 'Christine Daaé' in "The Phantom of the Opera" (2004).
"There's something safe about playing a character," said Rossum, "but then it's like, 'Who am I underneath it all?'
"I've been in the studio experimenting...trying out different producers, styles, sounds. With music, as opposed to acting, you are not playing a character. You are showing people who you are. I really want to have my spirit in it.
"But it's the best feeling when you wake up and it's warm and cozy, and you don't have to go to work.

Shameless Season 9 Episode 10
When we build homes, even those as broken and dysfunctional as the Gallagher one at the center of Shameless, we are attempting to shield ourselves from reality. It might be bad outside, but inside is sanctuary. An ugly one that is apparently at risk of blowing up at any moment, at least according to Debbie this week, but a sanctuary nonetheless. Yet it wasn’t Debs’ fear of termites that really brought the house crashing down. Tonight’s episode saw most of the running storylines’ cozy security blanket of cynicism get ripped away. And reality seeped back into Shameless’ version of the South Side. At least enough to shatter the lives of some of our favorite characters. It’s about time.

For a while last year, it looked like the Shameless TV show might be cancelled by Showtime. Eventually though, Emmy Rossum's contract was resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Shameless is a series in transition. Last week, we bid farewell to Ian Gallagher (my second favorite of the Gallagher clan for those counting), and tonight we have the first mid-season finale in the show’s entire run. Indeed, Showtime has made the curious choice of expanding the normal order of Shameless episodes from 12 episodes to 14, and in so doing, they have also broken it up as a fall/winter series, much akin to AMC’s format for their most popular shows. Presumably this helps with the ratings, but it rather serendipitously gave us a creative space that even the show’s producers may not have been aware of.
