Los Angeles — A judge refused to dismiss charges Friday against a group accused of burglarizing celebrities' homes based on an officer's paid work on a film about the case, but called the investigator's actions "stupid" and a gift for defense attorneys.
An attorney for Roy Lopez Jr., who is charged with burglarizing Paris Hilton's home, argued the $12,500 paid to the lead investigator for work on Sofia Coppola's upcoming film on the case was outrageous conduct that justified a dismissal.
Superior Court Judge Larry P. Fidler disagreed during Friday's hearing, but criticized Los Angeles Police Officer Brett Goodkin's work on "The Bling Ring."
"His judgment is as poor as it gets," Fidler said, adding that he would allow defense attorneys for three remaining defendants to extensively question him about his credibility during trial.
"It's not outrageous. It's not flagrant. It's not egregious," Fidler said. "It's stupid. You can have a field day with him.

The Burglar Bunch defendant on trial for breaking in to Paris Hilton’s house, Roy Lopez, Jr., wants to know the salaries for all the actors, consultants and staff on the upcoming film ‘Bling Ring,’ TMZ is reporting. Lopez’s lawyer, David Diamond, has subpoenaed the payroll records for the movie, as his client wants to know how much Emma Watson and the other actors are making for the movie about the crime spree. However, Diamond wants to specifically know the consultants’ salaries, including some members of the Burglar Bunch and the investigator who cracked the case. He wants to be able to impeach their credibility if they later testify against Lopez. [ Read More ]...

A representative for Paris Hilton has furiously denied a story from an alleged member of the Hollywood burglar bunch, who insists he found drugs at the heiress' home.
Nicholas Prugo is one of the key members of the so-called Bling Ring who allegedly stole designer clothing, jewellery and cash from properties owned by Hilton, as well as other stars including Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom and Rachel Bilson.
The 19 year old has pleaded not guilty to a charge of felony first-degree residential burglary, but the criminal case has not stopped him going public with his story. He has appeared on U.S. TV's Good Morning America and given an interview to Vanity Fair magazine, in which he mentions his alleged raid on Hilton's home - claiming he found a stash of cocaine at the star's property.
He told the magazine, "(Hilton is) dumb. Like, who would leave a door unlocked? Who would leave a lot of money lying around. We found about, like, five grams of coke in Paris’ house."
Prugo's lawyer, David Diamond, insists his client “did not steal anything” from Hilton, and the socialite's representative has spoken out to deny the teenager's story.
Dawn Miller, a spokeswoman for Hilton, tells the magazine, “I don’t know why anyone would listen to allegations made by a self-confessed thief."...
