The year’s shortest month gets the biggest bang as Severin Films today announced their February 27th releases featuring uncensored 4K restorations of the infamous 1960’s western ‘roughies’ from the depraved minds of exploitation legends Bob Cresse and Lee Frost, Hot Spur and Scavengers.
‘“The Kings of esoteric boutique companies” (Video WatchBlog) are also proud to release – because Severin co-founder/president David Gregory considers it one of the best films he saw as a jury member at the FrightFest and Sitges Film Festivals – the North American disc premiere of director/co-writer Andrew Legge’s time-travel mind-bender, Lola.
Previous limited edition title Spider Labyrinth also enters wide release.
Here’s everything you need to know about Severin’s February 2024 lineup…

Having struck gold with shockumentaries like Ecco and Mondo Bizarro, producer Bob Cresse and writer/director Lee Frost applied their distinctive sleaze aesthetic to a revenge western they advertised as “91 minutes of Freudian fury!

Of the nine artists who were cut during “The Voice” Battles Week 3, viewers are most outraged over Zach Newbould‘s elimination. The 19-year-old fan-favorite from Northborough, Massachusetts sang “Use Somebody” in the blind auditions and earned two chair-turns from Camila Cabello and Gwen Stefani. He chose to join Team Camila, but he subsequently lost his battle of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” against Andrew Igbokidi.
Gold Derby ran a poll asking fans to name which eliminated artist was most robbed this week and Zach came out on top. Week 3 of the Battles aired October 24 and October 25 on NBC. Here are the complete poll results:
36 — Zach Newbould
23 — Lana Love
15 — Kara McKee
10 — Tanner Howe
5 — David Andrew
4 — Sadie Bass
3 — Hillary Torchiana
3 — Constance Howard
1 — Madison Hughes

In the battle between Zach and Andrew, coach Camila confessed she was looking for “growth” and “star power” above all else.

NBC aired “The Voice” Battles Week 3 on October 24 and October 25, where a whopping nine artists were eliminated. The four coaches — Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Camila Cabello — agonizingly decided on who won and who lost each of the head-to-head match-ups. However, some of the losers were then stolen by rival judges or saved by their own, so they’ll live to perform another day. Of this week’s “The Voice 22” eliminations, vote in our poll below to tell us who was most robbed.
As a refresher, here are the names of the nine artists who were cut by their coaches during Week 3 of the battles: Hillary Torchiana and Madison Hughes of Team Blake, Tanner Howe and Sadie Bass of Team Gwen, David Andrew, Lana Love and Kara McKee of Team Legend, and Zach Newbould and Constance Howard of Team Camila.

Blake Shelton was seeing green during Monday’s Battle Rounds on “The Voice”!
The Cowboy had his hands full with some impressive performances from Team Blake, but don’t think he didn’t notice wife Gwen Stefani gushing over Team Legend singer David Andrew following his impressive performance alongside Kim Cruse.
“David, you know I wanted you bad,” Gwen gushed. “I fought for you, I turned for you, your voice is so pretty.”
“Oh my god, Blake!” Camila teased, while Blake jokingly made some jealous eyes at his wife and exclaimed, “Whoa!”
“I’m saying, he’s got style!” Gwen continued. “You deserve to have the hype that we’re all giving you, ’cause it was so good!

“The Voice” Season 22’s premiere week continued on September 20 with Camila Cabello, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani all continuing to build their teams during the blind auditions. Since only Camila used her block during Monday’s episode, that meant everyone else had the power in their pocket to block a rival coach from acquiring an artist for their teams. Mondo is one of the more fascinating tangents to come out of ‘60s cinema; one part anthropological study, sixteen parts exploitation, these “documentaries” purported to shed light on unusual rituals and practices from around the globe. The big fun with all of them is discerning which ones actually offer up the taboo they claim and which ones are yanking the audiences’ chain. This brings us to Severin Films’ spanking new Blu-ray of two of these “shockers," Mondo Freudo and Mondo Bizarro (1966), both hilarious time capsules of ‘60s exploitative wool-pulling.
Mondo Freudo was released in April, with Bizarro quickly following in August; the brainchildren of filmmakers Bob Cresse (Love Camp 7) and Lee Frost (The Thing with Two Heads), the former had seen an advanced copy of Italy’s Mondo Cane (’62) and realized it was going to be a big hit. And he was right. The biggest difference between Italy’s output and Cresse’s however,...

Guest Reviewer Lee Broughton is back, with another Italo Western double bill DVD review. Wild East’s ongoing Spaghetti Western Collection continues to grow and this double bill release is particularly welcome since it features two obscure and wholly idiosyncratic genre entries from 1969. Italian Western directors had found it relatively easy to appropriate key plot points and ideas from Sergio Leone’s Dollars films during the genre’s early years but when Leone’s sprawling, mega-budgeted, meta-Western Once Upon a Time in the West was released in 1968 it was clear that this was one genre entry that local filmmakers would not be able to easily emulate.
With scriptwriters and directors now essentially being forced to come up with their own ideas and generic trends, a new wave of Spaghetti Westerns were produced that effectively took the genre in a multitude of new directions. The two films featured here were part of that wave.

While his name may not jump out at you at first, I can promise you that Mike Vraney was an important part of just about every horror fan's life, and unfortunately he's been taken from us far too soon. Vraney, the founder of Something Weird Video, has passed on at the age of just 56.

We regret to tell you that Something Weird’s founder, Mike Vraney, passed away on January 2, 2014 after a long heroic battle with lung cancer. He was 56 years old, way too young to leave this planet. There was still so much Mike wanted to do in his life, so many films to be found, and adventures to be embarked upon.
This sad news may come as a shock to most of you. Mike was a very private person and didn’t want anyone,...

I’ve always loved the diverse spectrum of styles you hear when putting on a TV on the Radio record. Their music spans numerous diverse genres, from post-punk to electro, freeform jazz to soul music, cappella music, psychedelia and trip-hop, modern soul and on and on. The band recently released their fifth studio album titled Nine Types of Light. Sadly it is the final TV on the Radio album to feature bassist Gerard Smith, who died of lung cancer only nine days after the release. The rest of the band consists of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals/loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars/keyboards/loops) and Kyp Malone (vocals/guitars/bass/loops) and Jaleel Bunton (drums/vocals/loops/guitars).

it's not Tuesday but it's time for a Top Ten anyway... as this is yesterday's news already!
AMPAS used to hide their membership roster like the vote tallies but in the information age, they've opened up. Now we get to see the whole list of new invitees each year. I wonder how they keep they're membership around 6,000 given how many people they invite annual. Maybe enough people reject the offer, stop paying their dues, or pass from this mortal coil each year to balance it out?
You can read the full list of recipients at Indiewire, but as is the Film Experience tradition, we like to pinpoint the newest (potential) members whose future ballots we'd most like to see. So let's have at it.
New Academy Member Ballots We Most Want To See
10 Bono & The Edge (music)
They're two separate people but we'd like to imagine them filling out their ballots together inbetween sets.
