Bruce Timm helped make the DC Animated Universe what it is today, and did so by essentially making kids' cartoons for adults. It started with "Batman: The Animated Series" ("Tas" for short) back in 1993, which took the best parts throughout Batman history — from both the comics and movies — wrapped them up in an art deco, film noir package, and added as many adult themes and emotionally rich storylines as possible without riling up the Fox Kids censors too much.
This wildly successful show made Timm a superstar at Warner Bros. Animation, who'd tapped him to reinvigorate Superman in the '90s following his work on "Batman: Tas." This resulted in "Superman: The Animated Series"; an impressive reinterpretation of the DC hero that, like Timm's Batman effort, managed to condense the best parts of the Superman canon into a new vision for its titular character. It might not enjoy the same...

Warner Animation’s just-released Batman and Harley Quinn is an interesting project from the standpoint of it being a more mature sequel to the Batman: The Animated Series while still fitting into the now cohesive DC Animated Universe. It has the look and feel of the classic series while the content and themes are vastly different in keeping with Harley’s prominence in all-things DC these days along with upping the stakes in a longer production.
That said, the production is very entertaining and a welcome 30th film in the line of animated projects (the DC Universe: 10th Anniversary Collection is expected in November).
It’s a lot of fun to have Bruce Timm, Harley’s co-creator back in action as a co-scriptwriter. Sam Liu is also back to direct so we have a lot of veteran talent to bring tremendous affection to the project and it shows in every detail.

In 1984 (or thereabouts) Alan Moore was asked to write a Batman one-shot for artist Brian Bolland. Between the arrival of the script and the publication of the Prestige Format Batman: The Killing Joke, Moore went on to become the most popular and best-selling comics writer of the decade. One of the reasons was that unlike his peers, he dug deeply into what made the heroes and villains tick and how they related to one another.
As a result of the strong writing and the brilliant artwork, the one-shot went on to become an acclaimed title that has remained in print ever since. Its little surprise, then, that Warner Animation finally turned their attention to adapting it for their direct-to-video line of films. They sparred little expense, bringing in crime writer Brian Azzarello and reuniting the popular Batman: The Animated Series vocal duo of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. Warner even...

The much anticipated Batman: The Brave and the Bold musical episode featuring Neil Patrick Harris titled "Mayhem of the Music Meister!" finally aired in the Us this past weekend. If you enjoyed the wacky songs on the episode, they're actually available in a soundtrack that was released Friday, featuring 8 songs from the episode. Buy/download it here—full track list after the jump.

As if former child actor Neil Patrick Harris wasn't on enough of a career roll with break-out turns in the Harold and Kumar movies and the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, lately he's somehow even managed to make showtunes seem hip, drawing raves as the host of both the Tony and Emmy Award ceremonies and starring in Joss Whedon's 2008 internet video sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
This Friday, Harris brings his considerable vocal and musical talents to "Mayhem of the Music Meister!," an episode of the Cartoon Network's animated series Batman: The Brave & The Bold.
Harris stars as the evil Music Meister, determined to overthrow Gotham City with his beguiling singing voice. Soon the entire cast, including Jeff Bennett as Batman, Grey Delisle as Black Canary and James Arnold Taylor as Green Arrow, is under the Music Meister's charms (and responding in their own singing voices...

Say what you want about the 1993 horror film “Leprechaun” — but for many low-budget horror fans like myself, it holds a special place in our hearts.
Not only did it give us the greatest (and only) death-by-pogo-stick scene in movie history, but it also gave Jennifer Aniston her first feature film role and, of course, paved the way for such cinematic classics as “Leprechaun in Space” and “Leprechaun in the Hood.” So, with all of that evidence presented, I rest my case for the importance of “Leprechaun.”
Now that we have that settled, it should be no surprise that the ongoing adventures of Warwick Davis’ evil Irish alter ego are continuing in comic book form. Earlier this week, I recommended the first issue of Bluewater Productions’ “Leprechaun” comic book series (which I believe hits shelves today), and now I have an exclusive sneak peek at the second issue in the series.

Bluewater Comics has announced that it has struck a deal with Lionsgate to produce two new series based on franchises very familiar to horror fans: Warlock and Leprechaun. These ’90s genre favorites will be heading to comic shops across the country in 2009 with all-new tales, following the success of Bluewater’s most recent foray into horror, Vincent Price Presents.
Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis is excited about adapting these movie series, one of which he was previously linked to. “Collaborating with Lionsgate on this end is like coming back full circle for me,” he says. “I worked on the marketing for Leprechaun 4: In Space. I loved this little character and have always wanted to do something with him. As for Warlock, that was another cult film I enjoyed, so having this opportunity to partner with Lionsgate again is going to be great.”
