It’s Pink List time again, and it’s been more exciting than ever because The Independent On Sunday, the British newspaper that compiles the list of the country’s 101 most influential Lgbt people, have, for the first time, invited people to send in nominations. These votes will then be considered by the judging panel, which features the likes of Diva magazine editor Jane Czyzselska, Conservative MP Margot James, Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas and Tamsin Omond, founder of the environmental campaign group Climate Rush.
Last year, there were 31 of our kind on the list, which is still quite a few steps from equality, but this was nine more than in 2009. So, by our reckoning, there should be at least 40 women on this year’s list.
Because we love a vote and writing lists, we’ve combined the two and we’ve written a list of the ten women that we would vote for.

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
Hands up — who's missing Lip Service? We feel your pain. You've most likely watched the DVD a fair few times, you're currently stalking/going to see Heather Peace gigging around the UK, Frankie is still your computer screen-saver and every now and then you still press play on your download of Roxanne McKee saying "Turn over." But try as you might, you can't shake off these Tuesday Blues. Even Gillian McKeith's pseudo fainting episode and Saturday night fixes of Minogue and Cole can’t stop you wondering: "For goodness sake, what happens next?"
Unfortunately, we can't help you with any of that. Instead, we suggest you just pull yourself together until Series Two...

It's the morning after the night before, and the camera pans down lustfully on Frankie's naked body as she lies in bed alone. Something tells us Jay probably isn't in the kitchen whipping them up some scrambled eggs.
She picks up her own camera looking for some visual reminders of last night's drunken debauchery and is presented with Shave-gate, Jay and general shame. She lingers over a close-up picture of herself – all running mascara and smeared lipstick and quite rightly decides that it's not one for Facebook. Instead, she deletes it and leaps out of bed. Frankie has what we call in Britain on a morning like this, "The Fear."
DS Murray admirers will right now be screen-grabbing like their very lives depend on it as the hot cop writhes around in bed, semi-naked, while Cat pleasures her downstairs.
The climax is so intense for the hot cop that when...

When we first went onto the Lip Service set, we cannot tell a lie, it was Ruta Gedmintas that first caught our eye. We can thank series creator, Harriet Braun for suggesting the frankly delicious haircut, but we must give her parents and genetics a massive high five for the rest.
Our interview with Ruta took place during filming back in December. In person, she was intense, thoughtful and extremely articulate. She talked passionately about the show and had obviously spent a lot of time studying and coming to grips with the role of Frankie.
Since the first episode aired, two things have been made clear to us; Frankie is undoubtedly the most divisive...

Lip Service creator Harriet Braun has admitted that she was nervous about writing the series. The show focuses on the love lives of a group of lesbians living in Glasgow. Writing on the BBC Three Blog, Braun admitted that she wasn't sure whether to work on the drama at first. "When I was first asked whether I would like to write a UK-based lesbian drama, I didn't immediately jump at the chance," she said. "The L Word had just run for five seasons in America and was about to go into its sixth. Many people I knew had seen it and its characters had taken on an almost mythic status. Did I want to try to follow in its (more)...

As the co-creator of the excellent Attachments and writer of Mistresses, Harriet Braun already knows what it feels like to have a hit show on her hands. But with the entire lesbian population of the UK — and their lesbi-friends around the world — waiting with increasing giddy impatience for her new lesbian drama Lip Service to air, she may be about to enter a whole new realm of fandom.
As well as being the show’s creator and writer, Braun is also the co-producer and she spent most days on set watching the filming and giving notes. We went to meet her on the last day of filming last winter — on possibly the coldest day...

The countdown clock may feel somewhat weighty whilst we sit tight in anticipation for Lip Service, the UK’s first lesbian specific drama to begin on BBC Three next month. But, fellow lesbians, we have something quite special to offer you to interrupt the passing of time.
Whilst we were on set, trying to sneak inconspicuously behind the extras to speak to cast and crew — often on the sly — we gathered lots of Lip Service tidbits that we kept in a box in a secret place. We’ve now ripped it open and, quite opposite to Pandora and her box, this free fall of information is sure to put smiles on many faces.

This looks set to be an exciting year for feminism. Here Viv Groskop rounds up the books, films, theatre and marches that will inspire us all in the coming months
This is a big year for feminist anniversaries. It was 40 years ago that the first ever National Women's Liberation conference was held in the UK, that Germaine Greer published her groundbreaking book The Female Eunuch and Kate Millett published the life-changing work Sexual Politics. The year looks set to include a whole host of celebrations then, one of which is already underway – the Ms Understood exhibition at the Women's Library in London, which traces "the sisterhood and spirit of 1970s feminism" and runs until the end of March.
But this year's feminist calendar isn't solely historical. Three major new feminist books are to be published in Britain, the TV series Mad Men continues to explore the sexual politics of the 1960s,...

In 2009, the number of leading lesbian characters on primetime broadcast TV doubled — from one to two.
Out of the estimated 600 lead and supporting characters on network TV, seven of them of are lesbian or bisexual. And of those seven, five of them kissed women last year. And of those five, three of them made out during Sweeps.
Things looked bleak at the beginning of the year, but with the growing trend of lesbian brides getting gunned down or cheating on their wedding days, and the continued trend of bisexual characters only expressing their same-sex attraction during Sweeps, and the loss of Showtime's lesbian drama The L Word, we're ending the year on a downward spiral in terms of lesbian visibility.

The most surprising story in 2009 was the relationship between Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins (played by Jessica Capshaw) on Grey's Anatomy.

You know what's better than talking, laughing, loving, breathing, fighting f--king, crying and drinking? Talking, laughing, loving, breathing, fighting f--king, crying and drinking — with a Scottish accent. That's why I trust that BBC3's newly announced lesbian dramedy, Lip Service, will be far superior to The L Word.
Lip Service is a six-part "sexy, funny and irreverent" series about the lives of young lesbians living in Glasgow.
Series creator and writer Harriet Braun (Mistresses, Hotel Babylon) thinks it's going to be better than The L Word too. She told The Guardian: "I loved The L Word but it's high time we saw some contemporary British lesbians, with all the bad weather, trips to the pub and repressed emotions that go with that. It will be as funny as it is pathos-filled, because in my experience that's how life is."
I think she means funny in a "Ha ha, I completely...
