Deadline reports that actor, comedian, and Fox football mainstay Rob Riggle has been cast alongside Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon in Horse Soldiers, Nicolai Fuglsig’s upcoming film about American Special Forces infiltrating Afghanistan in the aftermath of 9/11. In a weird bit of military serendipity, Riggle will be playing Colonel Max Bowers, a man he once served under during his own time as a Marine in Afghanistan.
Riggle joins a cast that also includes Michael Pena, Austin Stowell, and Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film is based on Doug Stanton’s book about Special Forces secretly fighting on horseback against the Taliban in the days after the September 11 attacks.
