Ryan Reynolds is coming off his best year ever thanks to “Deadpool,” which finally landed him a worldwide blockbuster and iconic big screen character. But it wasn’t that long ago when Reynolds was still auditioning for projects, one of which surprisingly was the Coen Brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis.” During a sit-down interview with Taraji P. Henson for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Reynolds reminisced on one of his last auditions, citing it as the film before “Hail, Caesar!,” which would make it the folk drama that eventually starred Oscar Isaac.

The soundtrack for the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis credits producers T. Bone Burnett and Marcus Mumford and actor Oscar Isaac for the arrangement and performance of most of the main character's songs. But in the context of the movie, the ownership of these tunes belongs to the fictional folk singer Llewyn Davis, whom Isaac plays. It's common for us to better associate songs written specifically for movie characters and bands with those made-up musical acts, and so the hit novelty record "Please Mr. Kennedy," for instance, may forever be remembered as written by the nonexistent Jim Berkey (Justin Timberlake) and sung by Berkey, Davis and Al Cody (Adam Driver) just as we always think of "Stonehenge" and "Hell Hole" as being by Spinal...

"When you read about the scene you see this mania for authenticity," says Joel Coen, describing what enticed him and his brother Ethan into making Inside Llewyn Davis, a film about folksingers in Greenwich Village just before Bob Dylan touched down and took off. But Coen isn't really praising the folksingers' authenticity – it's their mania that fascinates him. In the very next sentence he goes on: "You have these guys like Elliott Adnopoz, the son of a neurosurgeon from Queens, calling himself Ramblin' Jack Elliott. In the film we have...

The early buzz has been tremendous for Inside Llewyn Davis, the Coen Brothers' upcoming film about the Sixties folk scene in Greenwich Village, New York. One scene in particular is generating extra attention: the film's title songwriter (played by Oscar Isaac) lands a gig recording a goofy space-race protest tune alongside a pair of awkward folk artists (played by Justin Timberlake and Girls star Adam Driver). Watch it here.

Inside Llewyn Davis
Written and directed by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen
USA, 2013
Poor Llewyn Davis is not at a good point in his life. In February of 1961, he is a struggling, bearded bohemian shivering through a frosty Greenwich Village, a folk musician seeking the next gig just to keep the wolf from the door. With few possessions other than the fraying clothes on his back and his trusty guitar, he relies on the charity of others to keep a temporary roof over his head, oscillating from staying with two wedded musical companions in the tight-knit folk scene, Jean (Carey Mulligan, deliciously spiteful) and Jim Berkey (Justin Timberlake, polished) and the middle-class Gorfiens , the wealthy, perky parents of Llewyn’s musical partner, revealed to have committed suicide a few months earlier. Davis is a man scorned, sneering at others and certain of his superior musical skills. He’s not the most likable sort,...

There's not an awful lot that gets the tongues of indie film fans a-wagging more than the approach of a new Coen brothers movie. After a string of four films in as many years, they've had a little break their last directorial effort True Grit (2010), but they're back this year with Inside Llewyn Davis (2013). Due to hit UK cinemas in early 2014 after premièring at Cannes, the film is the story of the titular folk singer attempting to find his way in the New York music scene of the 1960s. Now, those eagerly anticipating the release have a teaser trailer to tide them over. Loosely based on the memoir of folk singer Dave Van Ronk, The Mayor of the MacDougal Street, the film follows Llewyn Davis' (Oscar Isaacs) as he navigates the Greenwich Village music scene.

Pop-folk combination on Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack will pave way for change of direction on third Mumford & Sons album
Justin Timberlake and Marcus Mumford have recorded music together for the new Coen brothers movie, Inside Llewyn Davis. News of the pop-folk collaboration comes as Mumford & Sons describe plans to change their sound and make their third album a "departure".
It's not really a bombshell that Timberlake is contributing to the soundtrack for Inside Llewyn Davis: the singer already has an acting role in the film, playing a character called Jim Berkey. But Mumford's involvement – and the Timberlake team-up – comes as a surprise. Until now, the folkie's only link to the film was through Timberlake's co-star, Carey Mulligan, who happens to be Mumford's wife.
"There's a Coen brothers film coming out soon that I was lucky enough to work with … Carey [on]," Timberlake recently told Capital FM. "And coincidentally I did...
