There's some more casting news for NBC's proposed remake of the classic James Garner series, The Rockford Files.
As regular readers know, NBC is attempting a new Rockford Files series and isn't skimping on the talent. Movie actor Dermot Mulroney has been signed for the private-eye lead role. Alan Tudyk will play his friend on the force, Detective Dennis Becker, and Beau Bridges is set to portray Rocky, Jim Rockford's sweetheart dad.
Additional casting adds Alex Fernandez (Human Target) and Melissa Sagemiller (Raising the Bar) to the peacock network's pilot.
Fernandez will take on the role of Lt. Doug Champan, Baker's hard-nose boss who assumes everyone around him is an idiot. James Luisi played the role in more than two dozen episodes of the original series. He reprised the role in two reunion movies and died in 2002.

A couple weeks ago, NBC announced that Dermot Mulroney would step into James Garner's shoes for the remake of The Rockford Files. Now, they've found their Detective Becker.
In the original 1970's series, private eye Jim Rockford often ended up needing help from his overworked friend on the Lapd, Sergeant Dennis Becker (Joe Santos). Rockford's favors frequently put Becker in a bad light with his overbearing bosses and added to the cop's heavy workload.
In the fifth season, Becker finally became a lieutenant and it was mentioned that the promotion probably would have happened sooner had he not been so closely associated with an ex-convict like Rockford.
The original Rockford Files had few regular characters so the on-camera chemistry between Garner and Santos is one of the best remembered elements of the show.

We haven’t covered this reboot yet for whatever reason I guess Hawaii Five-o ’s reboot on CBS took precedent. That being said we have found out that Dermott Mulroney will be playing the legendary detective once incarnated by James Garner.
Also the pilot is being written by David Shore who created the popular House series on Fox.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alan Tudyk (Dollhouse, Firefly) has signed on to join the NBC pilot.
Tudyk will star alongside Mulroney, who will play the title character Jim Rockford, a cynical, hard-nosed cop who can show a bit of a softer side at times. Tudyk will portray Detective Dennis Becker, a friend of Rockford who is slightly embarrassed since most of the department hates his friend.
I am looking forward to this reboot now with the addition of Tudyk who I think is one of the most talented actors America has.

No offense to Dermot Mulroney, but his casting as the lead role in NBC's The Rockford Files didn't get us too excited about this remake.
This casting note, however, changes that: Alan Tudyk has landed a key role this update of the classic 1970s series.
Tudyk - who got his big break on Firefly and was most recently seen on V - will play Detective Dennis Becker, a pal of Rockford's who is embarrassed by his connection because all the other cops hate the private investigator.
This remake will be produced by House creator David Shore. It features Mulroney as Jim Rockford, someone that is "slightly crumpled, wry humored, cynical, world weary, compassionate when it's called for and easily irritated by morons," according to a press release.

Alan Tudyk, best known as the pilot Wash in the television series 'Firefly,' will be taking the role of Detective Dennis Becker on the upcoming revamp of 'The Rockford Files.' The new series is being developed by 'House' creator David Shore. The role of Becker was originated by Joe Santos in the 70's series.
Tudyk is an excellent actor, but the poor guy seems to be stuck as either a villain or a supporting role. In 'Firefly,' his character was so disposable (spoiler alert!) that they killed him in the movie. In 'Dollhouse,' he was the Joker (or at least a Joker-like villain). In 'V,' he was an evil alien. On the other hand, he's working. In this day and age, it's impressive simply to be a working actor whose name is known.
He plays both the villain and the sidekick well.

Here's a quick run down on what's going on in the TV industry, as of late.
First up, ABC has just ordered a game-show pilot from Mark Burnett. It's called "Trust Me, I'm a Game Show Host." In it, two hosts will match wits about various subjects with contestants culled from a studio audience. One of the hosts will be telling the truth, the other will be deceptive, and contestants will have to figure out which to trust.
That's super lame.
In better news, "Firefly" alum Alan Tudyk has signed on to play Detective Dennis Becker in the updated version of "The Rockford Files," set to air this fall on CBS. Dermot Mulroney will play Rockford. The show will be written by David Shore ("House").
Betty White has officially signed on to host a Mother's Day edition of "Saturday Night Live." She will be sharing hosting duties with a group of former female cast members,...

Ex-"Firefly" star and Joss Whedon regular Alan Tudyk has signed on to NBC's remake of "The Rockford Files."
Tudyk, who had recurring roles on Whedon's Fox series "Dollhouse" and ABC's "V" earlier this season, will star opposite Dermot Mulroney in the pilot. He'll play Dennis Becker, an Lapd detective who gets along with private eye Rockford -- which makes him a rarity on the force, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "House" creator David Shore is behind the new show.
Joe Santos played Becker alongside James Garner's Rockford in the 1970s series.
Tudyk is the second "Dollhouse" alumnus to join an NBC pilot this season. Fran Kranz, who played Topher on the show, will be one of the stars of the network's comedy "Friends with Benefits."
In addition to "Firefly" (and its followup movie "Serenity"), "Dollhouse" and "V," Tudyk's credits include "Knocked Up," "3:10 to Yuma" and "I, Robot.

NBC's Rockford Files reboot just climbed to the top of my list of most anticipated fall pilots (tied with Wilde Kingdom, natch). Sources confirm to me semi-exclusively that Firefly/Dollhouse all-star Alan Tudyk has joined the cast of the David Shore-produced remake. He'll play LAPD sergeant Dennis Becker, the role played in the original by Joe Santos. As I previously reported, Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend's Wedding) has been tapped to succeed James Garner as Jim Rockford. Still to be cast: Jim's pa, Rocky, and his ex-cellmate, Angel. Anyone else doing cartwheels over Tudyk's casting? I can't be the only one.

Tudyk most recently recurred on Fox's "Dollhouse" and ABC's "V."
