On paper it all appears to be perfect. Strong arm of the Romans invading a backward yet tenacious pagan country.
What we get it is a nonsensical and absurd plot that could be a part of Horrible Histories or some other meek afternoon drama.
Character arcs are mildly interesting. The rivalries of the tribes and clans is interesting, but not gripping.
The series is confused. David Morissey is miscast as the Roman General and the setting is somewhat unrealistic. To portray the pagans as a B-side to roman civilisation was a stretch too far for the imagination.
Ultimately, his misses the mark, by a long way. Is it a slapstick, is it a serious drama, I can't tell.
Disappointed.
