Game of Thrones (2011)
Gendry Baratheon, fastest man in Westeros.
They ran out of book material in the later seasons and Dan and Dave are not capable of finishing the story in the way that Martin will (hopefully). Regardless of how bad they messed up the last season it is still 100% worth watching and I still enjoy rewatching the show from time to time. At the very least it will give you some faces to associate with the characters in the books, which I also recommend. Reading/Listening to the books will leave you with much different opinions about the characters. For example my favorite character is Stannis because I read the books, when I tell my friends this they simply reply with "the guy who burned his daughter alive?" to which I say yes, that guy.
Fallout (2024)
Funny, Dark, and Violent
I'm on episode 4 currently. I am very impressed with the show. I normally would not write a review, but after reading the typical "DEI" 2 star reviews by people who it is obvious have not even watched the show, I felt obliged to tell people that it is in fact a good show. It does not preach any sort of political message. The cast is excellent. It is a blend of fallout, western, and some gory flick that I can't quite name. I'm serious about the gore, you are going to see some heads explode. It is the best TV adaptation of a video game to date and I highly recommend that everyone give it a chance. You will enjoy it.
Ready Player One (2018)
Changed the best part of the book
I don't understand why the script was written in this way. Wade discovering the first key was the best part about the book. Instead they just "go backwards on a racetrack". This change alone was enough to nearly ruin the movie for me. There was some like humor, some light 90's nostalgia, but other than that it felt very much like a CGI heavy made for teenagers movie. I cannot rate this movie any higher than a 5. It's watchable, but incredibly dumbed down. Not that the book was some literary masterpiece but a large portion of him finding out about the first key happened while he was at his Oasis school, this seems to be entirely missing from the movie.
Don't expect much.
Spaceman (2024)
When Project Hail Mary comes out...
When Project Hail Mary comes out people who don't read will say that it's a copy of that Adam Sandler movie. Seems like this script was written with Project Hail Mary as a template, there are many similarities between this movie and that book. From the Spider like alien, to the spider like alien race having an existential threat to their race, much like the space algae in Project Hail Mary. It's an enjoyable movie though, I like me some Adam Sandler and I like me some slow sci-fi. So I recommend that enjoyers of either of those two, and really enjoyers of project hail mary to give this movie a shot as they wait for the project hail mary movie to release.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
The first new movie I've seen in a long time that I actually liked.
I was hooked the entire time. A little bit of mystery, but in the end the story was not some fantasy, just an actual attack. The ending was abrupt, but for me it didn't take much away from the film. The young actors were good, the old actors i knew would be good and of course they were. Honestly i dont see what the hate is all about. Glad it didn't turn out to be some weird phenomenon. I recommend this film, though based on the reviews a lot of people will feel like there is something missing or that the story could have been a lot more fleshed out. Oh well, i enjoyed it, on to the next one. Faith in new movies restored i suppose.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Men will watch this movie for as long as there are men to watch it.
He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary. 'It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door,' he used to say. 'You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.
What Peter Jackson did to bring this treasure to the screen is the greatest feat in the history of filmmaking. In my view it will not, it cannot be equaled. I think I've watched it more than 200 times and will watch it many more. In my eyes it is the best picture of all time and will remain so, forever.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
They did to LotR what they did to Star Trek
They changed it.
I've listened to the books dozens of times. I listen to them frequently. I've seen all the movies. I even loved the Hobbit movies. Within the first three minutes of The Rings of Power I could tell that the show was a big budget tv show with a 2 dollar script. Written by Amazon employees are overtly political. This show is stereotypical corporate America glut. It does the books no justice, like the movies did. Amazon wanted a Game of Thrones for kids. In the process they disgraced the most beloved fantasy novels ever written.
If you like Picard and crew acting like hip people 2023 California, then you will love this shameless piece of filth.
Margin Call (2011)
Very underrated.
An incredibly well acted movie about the 2007-2008 financial crisis. It is told from one investment banks point of view. It is very different from The Wolf of Wall Street. A much more realistic movie that doesn't try to wow the audience with sex and drugs, but with economics and grounded story-telling. Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto. Paul Bettany and Stanley Tucci all get top marks. It is a very engrossing and enlightening movie. 10/10.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
To all of the political comments...
You're right. This is yet again another highly politicized production from a public American corporation. I get it... I get propaganda and the need for it... I can see that people from all over the world are coming together to form a much more diverse race/society and that certain steps are being taken to ensure that goes smoothly... It's the complete lack of any subtlety that irks me. Cancelling my paramount +.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Amazing.
I can't find a single flaw in this show. It gets perfect marks in every single category. I cannot wait for season 2. I will never cancel my netflix subscription if they keep this show. I will buy the MMO when it comes out, IF they keep making this show. It's perfect. Really superb.
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg?
My favorite movie from my childhood is still my favorite movie as an adult. Kurt Russeel, Dennis Dun, Kim Cattrall, and James Hong are all excellent. Reminds me of Tremors in a way. Low budget B-movie that is unforgettable and very much replayable. A+
