The Green Goblin's Last Stand (1992)
Such a great fan film, made by a great fan.
In my opinion it's one of the best fan films out there. Basically I would say that it started the whole fan film trend, for fans to make a film of their favorite character(s) or movie(s) or anything. What they like to see, or how they think they would've made it better, etc. It's a interesting thing. But just like Dan Poole here, he treated the source material with a lot of respect and passion; He is the "ultimate fan" as many claims him to be. And this film certainly shows it, but not just the film, but the actor who was playing the wall-crawler. The stunts, the effort, the journey he had to go through for this was amazing. He did it all just to get the "shot" for the film. And the shots were done so seamlessly. I felt like I was watching a big budget film. And this movie had no budget to start with at all! The plot is based off from Gwen's death and the Green Goblin's Last Stand storyline back in Amazing Spider-Man issues #121 and #122 by Gerry Conway and Gil Kane. Dan Poole adapts, directs, and acts in this film so amazingly. Everyone else was just along for the ride to capture this story on camera.
I watched the 'Making of' along with the movie on the DVD and the 4 min. trailer that was originally for James Cameron, when he originally was attached to the "Spider-Man" movie. But Mr. Cameron never saw that trailer. But speaking of the documentary of this film, it was so great and so inspiring. Anytime I watch it, I feel like I should grab a camera and start filming and it doesn't matter what it is. If I think it's right, then others will probably think so too.
But enough about the documentary and myself. Overall, I love this film. I love it to death! (Well maybe not, but I'm trying to express my point, lol.) Jimi Kinstle stands out well, and such a wonderful experienced actor too. The way he portrayed the Goblin was exactly how I would imagined it if I were reading the old issues of the comic books right now. Dan Poole as Spider-Man, no wait, IS Spider-Man, and the direction he took for the film was just perfect.
Although it may seem really good but there were some parts I didn't like in it too well. Mainly it was because at some points it was too campy and the dialogue can be very 'cheesy' as well. But it worked and it was in it's element. If not great, but it was good that it had those stuff. It's what made the comic books back then the way they are and the reason why we, as fans, fell in love with the comic book series in the first place. So Dan pretty much did it so well.
As for everyone else on the cast and crew was very great and their input for this film helped it a lot and improved it more to be what many has said, "The best fan film ever." And I think it still is.
Such an amazing film, and a grateful live-action tribute to one of the greatest superheroes of all time. And a wonderful plot to go along with it. Dan and his crew did an excellent job, and I don't know how in any way I could express that more then I already had. I guess what they say is true; That dreams do come true. Even when this film is said and done, Dan Poole is still living the dream. No matter what, he will always be Spider-Man. Because he is Spider-Man.

Watchmen (2009)
"Who watches the Watchmen?"
I can't really say I am a big fan of Watchmen, since I read the book weeks before the release of this movie. I admit, the book was really good. And I was imagining how this movie could live up to the book. And like someone said in a recent review, this movie "works". Now I am a bit saddened about some scenes not making it to the final cut. But this movie works in it's own way. Let's just hope the director's cut has all the scenes from the book, if not, I don't care otherwise because I liked the movie anyways. I seen it with my girlfriend, and she really likes it too. Though I might accidentally spoil some parts from the movie, and for those who never read the book so I'm going to be brief about this. I want to start off with the actors first.
First of all, I don't know why everyone is complaining about Matthew Goode's portrayal of Adrian Veidt, also known as Ozymandias. There was nothing wrong with him, except for the fact that he doesn't look anything like the character from the book, but they made it work for the movie. As for Malin Akerman as Laurie Juspeczyk, also known as Silk Spectre II, wasn't bad at all either. She played the character the way I imagined her in the movie. I didn't see anything wrong with her at all, or Carla Gugino who plays as her mother in the film. They were both great in their scenes together.
Now on with the rest. Patrick Wilson, as the second Nite Owl (a.k.a. Dan Dreiberg), was terrific, Billy Crudup was perfect as the role of Dr. Manhattan, a.k.a. Jon Osterman, even though for the most part he was CGI but he made the character believable. Jeffrey Dean Morgon (a.k.a. Robert Downey Jr. look-a-like) does a great performance as the Comedian, a.k.a. Edward "Eddie" Blake. And last, but not least, Jackie Earle Haley IS Rorschach, also known as Walter Kovacs. He completely dove into the role, and became the character. He was really terrific.
Now on of what I like and dislike about the movie; I like all the scenes with Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley). The character was so amazing. I like how they did it perfectly of maintaining the source, and not screwing most of it up. Except the ending, which I can accept. I never really liked the "squid" ending in the book (oops I said too much), that never made sense to me. The actors were all good, I didn't have a problem with any of them.
Now what I dislike about the movie; There were parts that I was hoping to see in the movie that was in the book. Hopefully we see these scenes in the director's cut. I am looking forward to it. But that's the only problems I had with this movie. And also, this movie might not make sense to anyone who never read the book. So be careful before you watch it, and don't expect too much. And I kind of felt this movie was rushed a bit, but that's probably because all those good scenes from the book were cut out and are saved for the director's cut.
Just to finish off, this is not an action-packed movie. I know that ever since I read the book. The previews for this movie made it look like it's going to have a lot of cool action scenes in it. The action scenes were short, which I don't mind because it wasn't suppose to be like X-Men, Spider-Man, Blade, etc. It's a suspense, thriller, and mystery movie. That's why I love the book because I like those type of stories that completely surprises you later on. The love the book, and this movie. This is an entertaining movie, and even if you don't like it, see it again for no reason...or read the book. Doesn't matter which I suppose.
This was such a cool day for me. I got to spend time with my girlfriend, got a Watchmen T-shirt, the book before I went to see the movie, and seen the movie I've been waiting for since last year. This was such an amazing day, and it couldn't be anymore better. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
"Who watches the Watchmen?"
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (2008)
Better then Spider-Man 3....both movie and game.
What can I say? This game was pretty awesome, and different. The plot is very interesting, and it has a much darker tone to it too. It starts off with Spidey in the symbiote invaded New York City, regretting what had happen in the past few days. He tells the story of how it all started, and the choices that you have to make in order to save the city once more from Venom's evil plan to take over it.
The voice talents in this game were okay, but I like the guy who plays as Wolverine in this game. He is what soles the story and the more convincing role too. The voice of Spidey is OK, he just got a little annoying at times, but at least this time he is more funnier at his one-liners. That was great!
And the black suit and red suit choices is pretty cool too. I played through the entire game twice, first time red, second time black. I am playing it for the third time now, and I am getting all of my upgrades, and making random choices that will alter the en ding. I won't spoiler the two endings of the red suit and the black suit storyline, I'll let you see that for yourself, or just search for the videos at Youtube if you want.
This game is dramatic, intense, and fun all the way. You won't believe your eyes until after you play it. It's great for all Spidey fans, or even video gamers who just want to give this one a try. It's totally worth your time, and it'll make you wanting more by the end.
Speed Racer (2008)
Go Speed Racer, Go!
I remember seeing the first trailer to this movie. To tell you the truth it gave me chills. Though few months later, every TV channels were showing previews to this movie. I started to hate this movie way before I seen it. So when it came out on DVD, I rent from Hollywood Video. The movie was surprisingly good. I have to admit that it was everything I would expect for a live-action Speed Racer movie. I know why few people would say that it's stupid, but they're only noticing the little flaws in the movie, which weren't really flaws if you ask me. Some of the scenes, like the random jokes and suppose-to-be funny ones were awkward and really weird. But overall I think this was a really good movie. The action scenes were sweet, the plot was well done, the characters were exactly what they're suppose to be, and the actors were really great. I like Matthew Fox's portrayal as Racer X. He made that character so true to the one from show, it was just great seeing him play the role. And I also like to mention Emile Hirsch really convinces me that he's Speed Racer from the beginning to the end. John Goodman, Christina Ricci, and Susan Sarandon were great in their roles too. I just love this movie, this goes 3 on my favorite list. I like to mention that I should have watch this in the movie theater, it would have been worth it.
GO SPEED RACER, GO!
The Dark Knight (2008)
Ledger is Without a Doubt Best 'Joker' There is...
I've seen this movie the day after it's release in theaters in the US. I have to say that it's one of the best movie ever. Though like many others would say that it's as good as Godfather. I can't really say since I've never seen that movie and probably never will. But the most thing that caught my attention the most is Heath Ledger's performance as the menacing Joker. I have to admit, Joker is one of my favorite comic book villains of all time, and Ledger nailed it. Sadly he's not here to see how big of a success this became, but I bet he would be appreciable about his accomplishment. Though I came to found out that Ledger was in two other movies that I really like ("10 Things I Hate About You" and "The Brothers Grimm"). I never knew the actor's name in both films until I realize it after seeing "The Dark Knight". Yeah, I felt stupid, but can't help it if I have bad memory sometimes.
Though enough of Ledger's excellent work in this movie. There was other things in this movie that I really loved. Two-Face was awesome. Especially the actor, Aaron Eckhart, was really great for the role. It was like he was born to play as Two-Face (Same for Ledger as the Joker). I actually thought Two-Face would be a cliffhanger to the third movie. I guess not. It was a great ending for the movie to end it as Harvey the hero and Batman on the run from the law for the choice he made (I hope that made sense). Brilliant. Just pure brilliant.
Commissioner Gordon, as always, is my favorite supporting character from the Batman comics. Gary Oldman was great for the role, and just because I never like the guy who portrayed Gordon from the Burton/Schumacher movies (Blah! He was a good actor but I didn't see him as James Gordon). And I actually thought Gordon was killed, but he came back and shows Joker who's boss.
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, sticking true to the comics perfectly and the character was explore excellently too. And Freeman is a very talented guy and did a really great job at his role.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was better then Katie Holmes. I don't care what you are all complaining about, Maggie is great for the role. Just I wish Rachel's death came unexpected (Internet sucks sometimes, that's all I can say).
Sir Michael Caine from my favorite movies he starred ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", "Austin Powers in Goldmember", "Batman Begins", and of course "The Dark Knight") is a great talent as well. He serves us was a really good performance of Alfred (Michael Gough is still my favorite portrayal of Alfred from the original Batman series).
Last but not least, the main character, our favorite Dark Knight caped crusader, BATMAN! He's also known as Christian Bale. All I have to say about what he did for this movie is...well, what can I say? He is the Batman, he was perfect with the role from start to finish.
I like to say that Heath Ledger wasn't certainly playing the Joker. He IS the Joker. I know a lot of you say that, but it's the truth.
So overall the characters, actors, plot, and director did a great job. Nicely done.
So hopefully I will see this movie in theaters again. It was the greatest movie experience in my life as a filmmaker, and forever will be remembered. I just wish my cousin and her boyfriend wasn't there making out. Only kidding though. I wasn't anywhere near them while watching the movie. :P I rate "The Dark Knight", 10 out of 10 stars!
