Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Great way to restore Tate and friends' legacy
I love the idea of restoring the legacy of Tate and friends and showing their story as being much more than the Manson family victims.
I would have given an 8 but I'm taking a star away for the Bruce Lee cheap shot / lack of research by Quinton. It made for an awesome scene but I wish T used a fictional representation because it feels weird to restore someone's legacy while tarnishing another's. It sounds like Lee respected Cassius Clay in real life...
Surf's Up (2007)
Awesome Satire
This is a satire on surf culture more than it's a Kids movie, although it is still both. If you have ever experienced surf culture you'll get it, but if not you'll probs be lost. I thought it was hilarious. Lololololol.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Top 250 my ass
This is good but not in the same league as DK or B.B. The film felt rushed. Way too many plot holes.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Excellent
The energy of this is so amazing. There is no other film that I would want to be able to see for the first time, over and over again, more than this
The Godfather Part II (1974)
This one, is the masterpiece of the series
I feel like the Godfather part one had a few mistakes in it but this one they learned from them and created a perfect film. The rooftop scene will always give me goosebumps
The Godfather (1972)
Overrated. But nonethelesss epic
I want to point out that there is a flaw in this movie which everyone seems to be flawless; when Sonny chases down his brother in law and beats him up he takes a swing at him and misses his face by more than a foot. I am surprised this was let go. For me it sucked a bit of magic out of it. Still one of the best films ever made but I wish people would stop calling it flawless
Titanic (1997)
Brilliantly captured
James definately hit the mark on this. To me the love story, which is superb, takes a backseat to the chaos and variety of ways people would have behaved in it.
The Ritual (2017)
Strong thriller but poor final act
Very exciting throughout the film but once you see the monster it doesn't live up to the fright factor of not seeing it.
House M.D.: Last Resort (2008)
powerful ending
I have to admit when the episode started my initial reaction was ughh, cheap entertainment. But the episode got more and more interesting as it progressed. Thirteen, who is quickly becoming my favorite character of the series (other than House himself) showed magnificent character development and was the star of the episode and displayed the most powerful climactic ending of the series. House himself was great in the show and the gunman really provided a cool mirror character to House. Great episode.
10/10
P.S. Why must we write ten lines of text to review a TV episode?
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Over-hyped
This movie was good but not great. What really bothers me is that at the moment it is rated higher than Jurrasic Park, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Bad news: The presentation of the human characters is pretty shallow and cliché. You have the heartless corporation head, the caring sensitive girlfriend, the young asshole punk who you know will get what is coming to him. Even James Francos performance was lacklustre compared to the effort he put in to 128 days. However the clichés do not stop at the characters as the film rips story line from Deep Blue Sea, Jurrasic Park, Resident Evil among others. Finally I feel the producers areat fault with the trailers made for the movie. The entire movie issummed up during 30 second TV commercials. There is not much of a novel experience in the theatre.
Good news: The CGI technology carries this film. It is incredible how far special effects have come. The apes really steal the show with a runner up prize going to the director for the ape scenes.
6 out of 10 for amazing technology and cool computerized action sequences
Love in the Wild (2011)
fun twist on survivor
This show is definitely as stereotypical as all other reality shows. However it brings a refreshing twist. The cynical themes of survivor are replaced with a funner atmosphere. Also, the players in the game are identifiable people, not just actresses and models in it to boost a television career. However, they are all way above average in good looks which makes it sur-real but is half-expected in a new show thats trying to gain a fan base. It is fun to watch the couples fight and/or come together in the challenges. I actually find myself rooting for the couple of Ben and Brandee because they make a pretty cool team, in a sort of love-hate way.I am interested to see how relationships develop and how the drama plays out as the show goes on. Definitely fun to watch.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
I am now dumber for seeing this movie :(
I felt the first transformers movie was excellent. It was new, original, and simple in what it tried to accomplish. The same can not be said for Dark of the Moon. What made this movie terrible was Bay's attempt to appeal to a mass audience. He tried to make an action, horror, comedy, romance movie and unfortunately the end product was extremely cheesy. Also, the movie had poor physics. How many times can a human being jump through panes of glass and not receive any cuts? I freely admit that I half expected this to be a bad movie and what I was looking forward to was the 3D animation. However, even that lacked originality to it as it was simply debris flying everywhere as the 3D showcase. The one saving grace of this movie was LaBeouf's performance, who carried this movie on his back by creating a believable world of metal robots and bad actors and actresses. I will not be watching another Bay movie in my lifetime.
