Yeogo goedam 3: Yeowoo gyedan (2003)
could be scarier
i think this movie had a lot of potential to be really scary, but unfortunately it's not. for some reason it just doesn't work till the final 30 minutes. for example in the beginning i got really distracted by the bad "fat" - make up of the red haired girl, and her weird shy/crazy acting. it's supposed to explain her character, but that's about the only explanation you ever get about her. and it was obvious from the start what's gonna happen to her. if you had more emotional access to her, i think that character could have gone down as a new icon in horror movies, cause - man - this Asian girl with weird red hair could scare the sh*t out of you. later in the movie, her "shy/evil" changes are actually very well acted.
the other two girls are not bad either. but most of the time i felt like watching some Asian version of an olson twins movie...
OK, the "ring - style" girl through the window will definitely not scare you. it has been abused in too many movies now, and is not done very well here. but still the final 30 minutes will give you a nice sense of unease and slight terror.
oh, and i dare you not to get haunted by the sight and sound when the blood starts tripping through the ballet shoes at the rehearsal - god, and that girl keeps smiling. hats of to that!
so, see it if there is nothing else on, but this is no "grude" or "ring"
Tian mai zhuan qi (2002)
actually pretty good
What's wrong with people? whoever started comparing it to "crouching tiger..."? of course you would be disappointed if you expect a similar film, but that's like comparing "the pianist" with the upcoming "king kong" just because adrian brody is in both of them.
the touch is actually not even a typical hongkong movie. it feels more like a really good American adventure movie from the early 90's - at the end i couldn't even stop myself from thinking about indiana jones. the film has a nice flow, a great chemistry between the leads and some great goofy humor. and most impressive of all, some amazing cinematography. just those beautiful landscapes alone are worth watching "the touch".
sure, the special effects in the final are really bad, they actually look like they have never been finished. some actors are pretty bad, too. but this movie is not about excellent acting but about harmless fun - just everything a nice action adventure should be.
don't expect anything else and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

wow!
no words can describe this amazing film. it gives you some of the most beautiful pictures ever seen in any movie. and it moves you in a very strange way. the end brought me to tears, and that hasn't happened in a long time. go and see this film. it's miles better than "tiger + dragon", and it will linger forever in your mind!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
well...it's good, not perfect
just back from the european premiere, and - don't wanna spoil it for others who haven't seen it. just so much: don't expect to be blown away, and you will be very, very satisfied. personally i liked "two towers" much better. i think rotk could do with 20 minutes cut and it would be perfect. it should have stopped at the end, and not gone on and on for another 20 minutes. but let me tell you: the fist 15 minutes of rotk - the story of gollums origin - is the best and most intense bit of the triology.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
death to the matrix!
Spoiler Alert Just a couple of hours ago I saw the press- screening of revolutions. and i am still upset about how bad it is. i've never seen an audience so disappointed. This is not the matrix! It's a mediocre action movie straight out of the early nineties. too long, bad editing, wasted actors, and the worst dialogues to hit any screen anywhere this year. what is this? did the writers watch too many soap operas. every single cliche you can imagine is up there on the screen. you know half an hour in advance who is going to die. and - yes - all the fighting and action stops for a couple of minutes to give the dying some time for an heroic speech - everytime.
as for the solution to the matrix triology....jesus...what is it all about??? too many loose strings not tight up, nothing makes sense, and far too much boring talk. they go on and on about love and machines bla bla bla...nothing you haven't heard before. and for the action??? not enough and not good enough. ok, the final fight is kind of interesting. but it's too late in a really bad film to save anything. oh, and trinity definitely deserved a better ending!!!!
Please, don't got and see this film! Don't support those involved in ruining everything we loved about the original matrix!!!
Führer Ex (2002)
the worst film ever
definitly the worst film i've seen in years. don't be impressed by the subject of the film. the audience at the preview was either in hysterics on the floor from the incredible bad acting, or they left beforehand in disgust at the shabby treatment of the story. imagine one of the best stories you ever heard - in this case a true story - and now imagine the worst tv treatment - then you're not halfway there. the worst acting, boring, totally unrealistic (how did they manage to do that i don't know), unbearable dialogs...i could go on. i beg you not to see it. it's an offense to any thinking person, and totally gives a wrong image of what and how east berlin really was. the saving grace is one of the leading actor he deserves better and is - hopefully - a star in the making, and no it's not the blonde...:-)
