Wild Things (1998)
OMG! This film had a lot of cool twists and turns to it!
I just finished watching this film and it was amazing! I'm game for films that have you guessing and (Total Recall was one of 'em) this one is one of them. It kept my attention throughout the film. I fully did not expect Dillon's character (who I could believe was innocent) nor most of the other involved was going to turn out to be dirty. Bill Murray's character especially! And the credits, that was a cute thing they did filling out the story with those clips. Especially that one where Kelly and Ray were in that house and they showed what really happened in there.
I found this film in a 2/$11 bin at Wal-mart, it sounded good so I figured with the price I wouldn't be out much money if it sucked. But man, I got lucky! Oh yea, Bill Murray was pretty good at playing a character that wasn't comedic. It's great to see actors who usually play comedic roles be able to also play serious ones. Kinda like Steve Martin in Novacaine or Robin Williams in One Hour Photo.
Donnie Darko (2001)
one of the few movies that really hit me in a profound way
There are very few movies that really can touch me, especially when I'm nearly recovered from a severe depression as I am now. This movie was one of them. I think it was partially the overall atmosphere of the film that did it. Of course, the character, I just loved his personality. I think "Darko" was a good name for him due to what I think could be called a dark sense of humour. The bunny, Frank, I think was a pretty cool character as well. It gave the movie a certain pleasurable sort of creepy feel if that makes sense to whoever reads this. I have a feeling there's a number of layers of meaning in this film and this is certainly one I will be watching again as soon as I get more clarity in my head (and my powers of perception grow stronger than they are now). I am curious to see that if it hit me this hard while I am like this, how much better it might be when I can really appreciate the multiple levels. Oh, this film also strikes me as being rather psychological and philosophical as well. I intend to look into the ideas they put forth about time travel as I'm curious if it will allow for a better understanding of the world around me. (why not? after all, doesn't a little kernel of truth lie in everything? :) )
Clash of the Titans (1981)
Oh my gods! Even as an adult this film ROCKS!
Just about done watching it and felt a need to comment on this movie and say that although there seems to be a chance one takes when seeing movies again as adults they haven't seen since they were really young (I was 10 when this came out). Sometimes what was totally awesome seen as a child turns out to be a disappointment when one has gotten much older. For me, it wasn't so with this, thankfully. In fact, I am seriously considering getting a copy of this in DVD. The narrative, I think, was very well-done. Lawrence Olivier does a pretty good job playing the father of the gods and from what I understand from mythology, the greek gods were rather petty and prone to politics with Zeus being something of a sometimes unreasonable parent. As the risk of getting philosophical, I guess it's not too much a surprise seeing as how some say the gods are a creation of humanity. They would be anthropomorphized and given similiar traits as we, ourselves have.
I want also to say how well I think the costuming and makeup was done. Even to the life-like swishing of both Kaliba and Medusa's tails. (I've a thing for anthro-reptiles ;) ) The special-effects, by today's standards, seem pretty cheesy but considering this was made two decades ago, I think they were damn good. I think Xanadu had similiar level of special-effects.
There's a certain charm and, I think, beauty to this film. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a nice action-adventure that seems mythologically accurate (as much as I know anyways) and has a little philosophy near the tail of the movie. I think it'd be a great

Mr. B Natural (1957)
MST3K version is a scream!
I first saw this cinematic frightfest with the usual trio of Joel and the robots and I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time. As usual they pick fun at the film, one of the lines I like the most is "Let's get acquainted" to which Crow responds "Let's not". They also joke that Liberache only wishes he was as gay as Mr. B :)
If you can find a copy of this as it is parodied by that fearless trio in orbit, I highly recommend it!
Gormenghast (2000)
Fun surreal film of a fantasy kingdom
I don't think there are any spoilers in this but I suppose the bit I say about the main character could be considered one so to be safe I put this warning in so I don't get blacklisted :)
Now that taken care of I can't say much more than what the previous person commented since I pretty much agree with her though I haven't read the books (but now knowing there are some I am very much interested in reading them now :) The main character is, in my opinion, gorgeous and the way he plays people off one another I find incredibly fascinating and fun to watch. I was shown this mini by a friend of mine who has an interest in surreality as much as I do. So yea, I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a good surreal fantasy story!
