another good movie ruined by the camera work
8 August 2004
Is it just lazy film making or do they really think the awful camera work is arty?

This was a good movie with great acting, well written but unwatchable.

During the first 15 minutes I kept moving back in the theater hoping that would help. The camera work made me feel like I was in the front row, blurry and out of focus with the close ups way to close.

The action scenes were so choppy it just makes me think the film maker is to lazy to film a cohesive scene, this method has got to make the editing process easy work.

During the pointless to long car chase scene it wasn't enough to close my eyes but I had to put my hands over my eyes to keep the headache inducing flicking away.

When will they get over their selves???

This could have been a really good movie
13 June 2004
I get so tired of frenzied camera work and in this movie all the migraine inducing whirly bird camera work was pointless and didn't add to the story line.

The movie was at least 30 minutes to long, but when we weren't going around in circles or strobing thru a nightclub I really enjoyed the movie. The plot wasn't especially innovative but it was well put together and I enjoyed Denzel Washington's performance.

The little girl's character Pita was interesting and charming and I expect we will be seeing more of Dakota Fanning.

Best for video so you can fast forward thru the dead zones.

great special effects, action too long and loud
18 April 1999
I agree with another reviewer, Reeves was a great choice for Neo. Overall I liked this movie a lot. The special effects were just stunning.

But, when I left the theater my ears were actually hurting from the volume. I complained to the management and was told that the movie comes with a recommended setting. Hollywood listen up or all your movie goers are gonna be DEAF.

I had read reviews of this movie prior to seeing it. They spoke of complex plotting, a thinking man's action pic etc.. so maybe I was expecting to much. The plot was good but took no effort to follow and as typical of summer action movies the action sequences toward the end just go on and on and on and on and on......

My rating for this movie is a 7. My companion only gives it a 5.

If you are going to see it definitely see it at a theater don't wait for video and take your ear plugs.

Best of the Trek Movies
13 December 1998
I'm a Trek fan from the beginning & I do mean the very beginning. And I can say without a doubt this is the best Trek movie to date.

Great to see the "next generation" crew again & sorry Patrick but this is the role I like you best in.

This movie is a thinking person's sci-fi, with gentle humor and a good plot.

The Look, gosh what can I say, most excellent!

Big Thumbs up from me.

Longest most boring car chases
4 October 1998
The movie was too long, the car chase scenes were a real bore. They went on, and on and on and on. It was mind numbing. They were well done, but when will film makers realize that a lot of us are tired of these long drawn out sequences.

I did not like that innocents were killed in the movie. Of course I know in real life that if these kind of shot outs were to happen that real innocents would be killed, but I would rather not see it in a movie.
