There was no mention of artificial intelligence Thursday at Tribeca Festival’s Paul McCartney talk with Conan O’Brien.
Instead of going into further detail about his recent plans to use AI technology to extricate the vocals of his former bandmate, John Lennon, from an old demo to create a final Beatles record, McCartney took a trip down memory lane with O’Brien.
During the hourlong entry in the Tribeca fest’s “Storytellers” series, O’Brien displayed various photos from McCartney’s new book, 1964: Eyes of the Storm, which the singer-songwriter described in detail.
“It’s so lovely for me to see these memories and just remind me of where we were, what we did in those days,” McCartney said.
The book features 275 largely unseen photographs shot by McCartney, taken between the end of 1963 through early 1964, when The Beatles became an international sensation. McCartney thought he had lost the photos until recently,...

Lin-Manuel Miranda wants to keep directing movies, but don’t look for him to mount any large-scale spectacles.
“My responsibility as a filmmaker — and I really hope to make more movies — is to make the weird little musicals that no one else can get made,” he told Rosie Perez during an appearance Tuesday at the Tribeca Festival. His 2021 debut as a director, tick … tick … Boom!, was “a really nice size for me,” the Hamilton creator said. “I really love working with actors. I really love unlocking musical storytelling, and that’s the fun part.”
Miranda maintained he “would never” attempt something as lavish as Wicked, the forthcoming Universal adaptation of the long-running Broadway show. Jon M. Chu, a friend as well as the director of the film adaptation of Miranda’s In The Heights, “is going to do something amazing, and I can’t wait to see it,” he said.

A project initially financed by a successful Kickstarter campaign has picked up some big-money backers. Storytellers, a web series created by YouTube star Joey Graceffa, will return for a second season thanks to a partnership between Graceffa, Legendary Digital Media, StyleHaul, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
The first season of Storytellers was funded by a 2013 Kickstarter campaign, which exceeded its $100,000 goal by more than $40,000. Later that year, the first of six episodes premiered, with Hunter--played by Graceffa--telling his dramatic story. Graceffa would later win Best Actor in a Drama at the 2014 Streamy Awards for this role.
Season two will bring Storytellers’ characters to college while amping up the series’ supernatural elements. A press release teases “personally expanding magical powers, supernatural forces of good and evil, and the threats of parallel universes,” and also notes a focus on “normal collegiate issues of identity, friendship, and romance.” Graceffa and di Bonaventura will be executive producers,...
