It's game over for The CW's new comedies Seed and Backpackers. The smallest network has cancelled and pulled the low-rated comedies after just two airings.
On Seed, a single bartender and sperm donor (Adam Korson) meets offspring that he never knew he had and becomes involved in their lives. The rest of the cast includes Carrie-Lynn Neales, Amanda Brugel, Stephanie Anne Mills, Laura De Carteret, Matt Baram, Vanessa Matsui, Abby Ross, and William Ainscough.
Backpackers follows Brandon (Dillon Casey) and Ryan (Noah Reid) as they travel through Europe looking for Ryan's girlfriend girlfriend Beth (Meghan Heffern). Giacomo Gianniotti plays Andrew, Brandon's slacker brother.
Both shows had dismal launches last week, attracting fewer than 600,000 viewers each. The numbers got even worse this week. Based on the fast affiliate ratings, Backpackers dropped 40% and Seed fell 20%.

A comedy series, Seed is produced in Canada. It has been such a success there that the show has already been renewed for a second season. Will Seed's ratings be high enough for The CW to want to air all of the episodes or, will they cancel it? Stay tuned.

The CW has aquired the rights to air Seed here in the Us. It's a half-hour comedy that premiered in Canada in February and has become the City network's highest-rated original comedy to date.
Seed follows the life of Harry Dacosta (Adam Korson), a single, underachieving bachelor and bartender who's also been a sperm donor. He reluctantly finds himself entangled in the lives of his new-found children and their less-than-thrilled families. They include a laid-back lesbian couple with a nine-year-old son, a neurotically hopeful single mom-to-be, and an uptight, upper-class family with a rebellious teenage daughter.
The cast also includes Carrie-Lynn Neales, Amanda Brugel, Stephanie Anne Mills, Laura De Carteret, Matt Baram, Vanessa Matsui, Abby Ross, and William Ainscough.

Arsenio Hall's return to late-night television worked out pretty well -- at least on night one.
The debut of "The Arsenio Hall Show" in syndication Monday night (Sept. 9) scored solid ratings with a 1.9 household rating in overnight metered markets. The show also led all the broadcast-network late-night shows -- all of which had new episodes Monday -- among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.
Hall also finished first among late-night talkers in Los Angeles and second in New York, behind "The Late Show with David Letterman." One night does not a successful late-night franchise make, but it's a good start.
More TV news and notes:
- The CW will have a half-hour comedy on its schedule in 2013-14. The network has picked up a Canadian show called "Seed," which centers on a bartender (Adam Korson) who's also a sperm donor. He's drawn into relationships with three families who have used his donations.

Tickets go on sale October 19th for Neil Patrick Harris in the Broadway run of Hedwig
I’m confused. Did Pax Dickinson not expect to get fired for this?
The CW is importing the Canadian sitcom Seed to air in the U.S. “Seed tells the story of Harry (Adam Korson), an underachieving bachelor/bartender who is also a sperm donor. Harry reluctantly begins a relationship with three separate recipient families – a laid-back lesbian couple with a 9-year-old son, a neurotically hopeful single mom-to-be and an uptight, upper-class family with a rebellious teenage daughter – with whom he’ll come to share more than just his DNA.” I know the show has already aired in Canada, so what do our Canadian readers think of it?
Congrats to Rafael Nadal, who I’m informed won his second U.

Updated: CW took another step toward making good on its promise to get back into the scripted comedy series business, licensing U.S. broadcast rights to the half-hour comedy series Seed from Canadian production house Entertainment One – eOne. This summer, CW dipped its big toe back into the comedy waters with the resuscitation of the former ABC sketch improv series Whose Line Is It Anyway? That series’ July launch clocked nearly 3 million viewers, making it CW’s most watched unscripted series premiere in six years, and its most watched show in its Tuesday 8 Pm slot in nearly five years. CW’s current president Mark Pedowitz joined the network in spring of 2011, saying one of his priorities would be to get the network back into the comedy game. It was a goal he reiterated most recently at Summer TV Press Tour 2013. CW’s been out of the scripted comedy business since...

Perfectly timed to coincide with tonight’s series premiere of Seed on City in Canada, theTVaddict.com recently had the opportunity to sit down opposite series star Adam Korson. Not surprisingly — Korson, who plays the show’s central figure Harry — a likeable bachelor and bartender whose previous foray into sperm donation has resulted in offspring he was unaware of — was only too happy to talk about his exciting new role, his dream guest stars and why Canadians should give Seed a chance. See for yourself, after the jump.
Seed airs Mondays at 8:30Pm Est on City in Canada.

Toronto – Hours before the TV premiere Monday night of Seed, the Canadian sperm donor sitcom he carries in the lead role, Adam Korson feels as much relief as opening-night jitters. “Here we are, this is us, the comedy is out there,” says Korson, who guest starred on 2 Broke Girls and The Protector in Los Angeles before returning to Canada to play a romantic rogue ill-prepared for fatherhood in the City comedy. Korson and fellow Canadian jokers have good reason to get suddenly serious. Canadian comedy has a powerful brand, with homegrown talent like Jim Carrey,

Toronto born actor, Adam Korson, stars in a juicy new sitcom that boldly redefines what makes a family. Korson, a classically trained theatre vet, turns his attention to episodic TV in a show that jumps outside the safety of conventional mainstream viewing. He plays Harry in "Seed", a witty and warm series around a young man who forgot he.d made donations at the local sperm bank and is suddenly confronted by his offspring. The show premieres Monday Feb 4 at 8:30 p.m. Et/Pt on Citytv. At first, he wants to run and hide and never look back like the fatherhood-averse, underachieving man-child he is. And he is a selfish if charming bounder who can generally manipulate...

"Desperate Housewives" has been off the air for less than a year, but if you miss Eva Longoria, you'll be happy to know she's returning to television. No, not as Isabella on "Y&R" (if that was to happen, it should have happened a year ago); rather, the actress will star in a primetime animated series that she will also executive-produce.
"Mother Up!" chronicles the daily life of Rudi Wilson (Longoria), a former music industry exec-turned-suburban mom. Rudi wants to be as good at motherhood as she was in the music biz, but struggles when she realizes she's not the greatest parent. The series also stars Canadians Jesse Camacho ("Less Than Kind") as Dick, Gabrielle Miller ("Corner Gas") as Sarah, Cle Bennett ("Flashpoint") as 2Bit, Helen Taylor as Jenny, Rebecca Husain as Apple, and Scott McCord as Greg.
