This year’s box office hit Evil Dead Rise is being unleashed on 4K and Blu-ray on June 27 – with no special features, we’re bummed to report – but it’s also streaming at home right now.
In addition to being up for grabs on various VOD platforms, Evil Dead Rise also made its debut on the Max – formerly HBO Max – streaming service today, June 23, 2023.
As you may recall, Evil Dead Rise was originally going straight-to-Max, but the pivot to theatrical ended up being a profitable move for Warner Bros. At the worldwide box office, the well-received sequel scared up a whopping $146.3 million worldwide in theaters.

"Why was she out in the bush that night?" Madman Films in Australia has released another trailer for the DVD debut of this mini-series titled New Gold Mountain, which originally aired on Sbs TV last year in Australia. The series is set in the middle of the 1850s in Australia about immigrants arriving to work in the gold mines at the Bendigo Goldfields. The charismatic "headman" of the White Hills Chinese mining camp suddenly finds himself struggling to maintain the very fragile harmony between the Chinese and European diggers, and authorities, when a murdered European woman is discovered to have links with the Chinese community. The Australian TV series stars Yosan An, Alyssa Sutherland, Christopher Baker, Dan Spielman, Mabel Li, and Sam Wang. This looks like an intense series about a real incident from history involving racism and brutality. "We all try to survive... it's just a question of the...

In Goalpost Pictures’ gold rush drama New Gold Mountain, Alyssa Sutherland plays a widow who overcomes the trauma of an abusive marriage and embarks on a quest for greater independence in 1850s Australia.
While it may be easy to classify her turn as Belle Roberts as a strong female character, the actress told If it was a description she was hoping to avoid.
“I like the attention we put on having much more well-rounded female characters but I get a little bee in my bonnet sometimes when all this focus gets put on these ‘strong female characters’,” she said.

As Australia begins to face the reality of ‘living with Covid’, there is discussion among the screen sector about how safety protocols may evolve in the new climate to include measures such as vaccine mandates for cast and crew.
Last month, production on Russell Crowe’s Poker Face had to be temporarily shut down due to a confirmed case among the crew, a scenario not seen in Australia since Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic was halted during pre-production after Tom Hanks contracted the virus.
Back then, the New York Times described Hanks as the “public face of a pandemic’s widening reach”.
The case on Crowe’s set may not have had the same global impact, but it served as a potent reminder for the local production sector about the growing possibility of direct contact with the virus.

Nearly 30 projects will share in $975,000 of story development funding from Screen Australia, including a television series inspired by the 1999 film Two Hands from director Gregor Jordan, and a family feature film from the producers of Bluey.
The 28 recipients for the final round of development funding in the 2020/21 financial year comprise 12 feature films, 13 television dramas, and three online projects.
Screen Australia head of development Nerida Moore said there was no shortage of variety across the projects.
“Screen Australia is really proud to be supporting this impressive mix of projects,” she said.
“This includes fresh genre-bending comedies Home and Our Haunt, and beautiful romantic drama 10 Moments that will bring together 10 chapters from a great team of exciting creative voices.
“It’s also wonderful to support more children’s content with Big Serious Studios’ Goo Zoo set to invite children into the world of microbiology as part of the company’s aims to...

Marvel projects may be drawing a slew of high-profile actors to Australia, but it seems there are also local productions inversely capable of attracting MCU talent.
Christopher James Baker has been back in his native country for the past year following more than a decade in New York, during which he starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and also shot the upcoming DC Universe Series, Stargirl.
He has been able to hit the ground running following his return, with roles in Stan’s eight-part mystery drama Eden, as well as Goalpost’s gold rush drama New Gold Mountain.
Baker will first be seen in the former, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform on June 11.
The Every Cloud Productions/Balloon Entertainment series centres on the disappearance of a young woman and a subsequent chain of events that serves to lay bare dark and hidden secrets within the titular coastal town.
