The song remains the same this weekend as Venom: The Last Dance follows our predictions from earlier this week and takes the top box office spot for the third weekend in a row. This marks yet another successful three-day outing for a franchise entry despite another drop in domestic dollars. While it will still go down as the lowest-grossing chapter in the series (by a long shot), it’s not the box office disaster some predicted it could be, with its take dwarfing that of Morbius, Madame Web, The Marvels, and Joker: Folie a Deux.
Without a whole lot of genuine competition, Venom: The Last Dance easily took the #1 spot this weekend, taking in $16.2 million and upping its total box office haul to just under $115 million. It’s worth noting that the first two movies in the series had each taken in somewhere around the $141-$142 million range domestically by their second weekend.

It’s not just audiences and movie critics that have rebelled against Joker: Folie a Deux, as even an actor who appeared in the ill-fated sequel has called it “the worst film ever made.”
Tim Dillon, an actor and comedian who played an Arkham Asylum guard in the movie, appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast to discuss what went wrong with the sequel, which was both critically reviled and a box-office bomb, the Hollywood Reporter writes.

Venom: The Last Dance Box Office (North America): Hits $100M (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Crossing important milestones for films is important as it lifts up the spirits of the people involved with them. Now, Venom: The Last Dance has crossed its first major milestone in the domestic market. The film is slightly slower in North America compared to its run in the international markets. Scroll below for the latest box office deets of Venom 3.
It is the sequel to the 2021 movie Let There Be Carnage and the third film in the Venom trilogy. The first film, released in 2018, was a commercial success and the highest-grossing film in the franchise. The threequel is lagging behind its predecessors in debut weekend numbers. However, it is doing better than Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: Folie a Deux. The movie has only earned $204.75 million at the worldwide box office.

Though the movie does have its share of defenders, Joker: Folie à Deux has been the subject of a lot of ridicule over the past few weeks - but we weren't expecting someone that was actually involved with bringing film to the screen to take such scathing shots.
During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, actor and comedian Tim Dillon - who has a small role as an Arkham security guard - shared his blunt, unfiltered take on Todd Phillips' highly-divisive sequel.
“It’s the worst film ever made,” Dillon said. “I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!’ All these think pieces. And then I think, ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now...

The criticism of Joker: Folie à Deux continues a month into its theatrical run, and this time, the call is coming from inside the house.
Comedian Tim Dillon, who had a small role in Todd Phillips‘ recent musical comic book sequel, described the movie as “the worst film ever made” as he gave his behind-the-scenes account of playing a guard at Arkham Asylum.

Comedian Tim Dillon, who has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in “Joker: Folie à Deux” as an Arkham Asylum security guard, recently appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and trashed Todd Phillips’ controversial “Joker” sequel as “the worst film that has ever been made.” The sequel earned mostly negative reviews and flopped at the box office with $58 million domestically and $204 million worldwide, a far cry from the 2019 original’s $1 billion gross.

For a widely popular and much-loved villain’s film to flop at the box office is certainly a statement, and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: Folie à Deux is a testament that studios cannot rely on past successes all the time. There are a lot of factors that contributed to the downfall of the controversial sequel, but one thing is for sure – fans have grown tired of the character, especially after the latest iteration.

Joker: Folie à Deux received very poor reviews from both critics and audiences. It currently has a 32% approval rating from both, making it “rotten.”
The movie also got a “D” on CinemaScore, the lowest rating for a superhero movie so far—though calling Joker 2 a superhero movie or comic adaptation might not be accurate.
The movie flopped at the box office and also struggled on PVOD. Given its troubled production, this outcome wasn’t too surprising. Lady Gaga was reportedly shocked by the result, but not everyone involved in the movie was surprised by its failure.
Tim Dillon had a small role in the film and, in his own words, it’s the worst movie he’s ever worked on.
Dillon is a stand-up comedian and podcast host known for his dark humor and outspoken style. He often discusses politics, pop culture, and conspiracy theories with a mix of sarcasm and satire.

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ premiered to terrible reviews from both critics and audiences. Right now, it has only a 32% approval rating from both groups, marking it as “rotten.”
It also earned a “D” on CinemaScore, the lowest rating yet for a superhero movie—though calling ‘Joker 2’ a superhero movie or even a comic adaptation is a bit of a stretch.
The movie bombed at the box office and bombed once again on PVOD, and quite frankly based on its nightmarish development we could expect nothing more. Lady Gaga was reportedly surprised at this turn of events, but it seems not everyone who was involved with the development of the movie was shocked to see the movie failing.

Joaquin Phoenix worked up a storm when he starred in 2019’s Joker. The film was the perfect blend of diabolical and intrigue, providing us with a unique lens into the life of Authur Fleck and his alter-ego Joker. However, the film’s sequel has turned out to be massively disappointing as well as a commercial and critical failure.

Basically unthreading the entire intricate tapestry that Joker had woven, the sequel not only made us all hate Arthur Fleck but also bored us with its musical setting. And one of Phoenix’s co-stars already knew the film was going to be a bomb.

Why so serious?
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn is disputing multiple reports that have percolated across the internet that the studio has been pursuing a TV series starring Barry Keoghan as the Joker, a character the actor originated in a brief cameo in 2022’s “The Batman.”
“A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time,” Gunn posted to Threads.
The reports, which appear to have originated on an episode of the Marvelvision podcast, claimed that Gunn and “The Batman” filmmaker Matt Reeves were planning to bridge “The Batman Part II” and “The Batman Part III” with a purported Joker series, in much the same way that HBO’s “The Penguin” with Colin Farrell is narratively connecting the events from “The Batman” and “The Batman Part II,” which is set to start filming next year.

In Todd Phillips' "Joker: Folie à Deux," conservative comedian Tim Dillon has a very brief cameo as one of the guards at Arkham Asylum. It's almost literally a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo, and Dillon has even admitted that, when he finally watched Phillips' film, he didn't see himself.
The reason he didn't see himself is because he was on his phone, posting on social media how much the film sucked. Dillon hated it that much.
Dillon, for those unfamiliar, is a queer standup comedian who is perhaps best known for mocking Millennials and Gen-z for being whiny and privileged. He also, however, pokes fun at Boomers for "refusing to retire" (squarely giving him a classic Gen-x disaffected tone) and pals around with right-wing pundits and bro-doggs like Joe Rogan, having described himself as right-leaning (although Dillon claims he has become too bitter to vote). The Penguin airs its final episode this Sunday, and while the jury's out on whether it will ever get a second season, it's clear that HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery are happy with how well the show has been received. The Penguin was spun off from Matt Reeves' 2022 movie The Batman, and I think it improves on its source. It's clear that Reeves and company are, at the least, interested in making other shows starring Batman villains. But which ones?
Well, according to Devin Faraci, who operates the Marvelvision podcast, the next DC villain show will be about the Joker, played once again by Barry Keoghan, who debuted his take on the iconic character in a cameo at the end of The Batman. The studio bosses overseeing Joker 2 and Borderlands have been talking about their respective box office disappointments.
2024 has seen a some big hit movies on the big screen, but also some sizeable swings that didn’t quite pay off. In Warner Bros’ corner, there’s the recent Joker sequel, Joker: Folie A Deux. For Lionsgate meanwhile, it uncharacteristically pumped over $100m into the videogame adaptation Borderlands.
It would be fair to say that neither struck box office gold.
We’re in the part of the financial cycle where bosses do earnings calls to talk through their more recent performance. Warner Bros Discovery boss and movie deleter David Zaslav was up first, in a widely-reported chat where he’s hoped that the results of the US election help allow big businesses to consolidate more.

In the realm of comic books, Batman’s rogues gallery is second to none, as each major villain poses a different challenge to the caped crusader, whether it be Riddler’s intellect or Joker’s anarchy. While Joker has made a plethora of live-action appearances, which date back to the ’60s, and remains one of the most esteemed villains in fiction, fans have been long asking for filmmakers to shed light on other Batman villains.

“Gladiator” director Ridley Scott recently told The New York Times (via Entertainment Weekly) that Russell Crowe said Joaquin Phoenix was being “terribly unprofessional” on set when Phoenix was getting cold feet and had to be convinced to stay on the movie. Crowe headlined “Gladiator” as Maximus, with Phoenix starring as the villainous Commodus. Both actors earned Oscar nominations, with Crowe winning the best actor prize.
“[Joaquin] was in his prince’s outfit saying, ‘I can’t do it,'” Scott recalled, “I said, ‘What?’ And Russell said, ‘This is terribly unprofessional.'”
When asked how he convinced Phoenix to stay on the film, Scott asked: “I can act as a big brother or dad. But I’m quite a friend of Joaquin’s. ‘Gladiator’ was a baptism of fire for both of us in the beginning.”

DC is about to triple down on its villains. Director Matt Reeves won all sorts of acclaim for his fresh new take on the Caped Crusader in 2022's "The Batman," but it's fair to say that star Robert Pattinson ended up upstaged by the big bads layered throughout the script: Paul Dano's Riddler with his David Fincher-inspired approach, John Turturro's creepy mob boss Carmine Falcone, and especially Colin Farrell as the scene-stealing Penguin, Oswald Cobb (a character so appealing that he's since been spun off into his own successful "The Penguin" series on HBO). But don't forget that there was even a last-minute tease for another major DC antagonist with Barry Keoghan's Joker, who received even more screen time in a deleted scene that Warner Bros. dropped soon after the film's release. The speculation since then has been that the upcoming "The Batman: Part II" would focus...

Marvel Cinematic Universe, after a disappointing few months/years, has been on its way to salvage its reputation and prove why it is as big and as revered as it is. Warner Bros. must have had every confidence in Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips to deliver a hit after his first film became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time (only recently surpassed by Deadpool and Wolverine), but the highly divisive sequel didn't come anywhere close to matching its predecessor's success.
The studio was hoping to see Folie à Deux recoup at least some of its costs when it arrived on Digital platforms late last month, but the movie failed to make much of an impact and only managed to reach fourth place on both the iTunes and Fandango charts.
It would be foolish of the studio to even attempt to put a positive spin on this, and Wbd CEO David Zaslav has now acknowledged that Joker 2 was "disappointing."

It would be foolish of the studio to even attempt to put a positive spin on this, and Wbd CEO David Zaslav has now acknowledged that Joker 2 was "disappointing."

Warner Bros. “Must Deliver More Consistency,” CEO David Zaslav Says After ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Flop
After seeing pink last year with Barbie, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav on Thursday talked about strengthening his studios business going forward for consistency.
Warners’ Margot Robbie blockbuster Barbie led the box office in 2023 with $1.44 billion in worldwide revenue. But a studios unit that fired on all cylinders, and yet is slowed by legacy cable TV brands facing headwinds from cord-cutting and advertising challenges, was addressed during a Thursday morning analyst call.
“There have been some real bright spots in our studios business. Our TV studio is on track to have its most profitable year in scripted content in the last five years,” Zaslav argued. And he talked up the movie side of the studio after the recent release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
“Even in an industry of hits and misses, we must acknowledge that our studios business must deliver more consistency,” Zaslav added. He also addressed an underperforming gaming unit.

Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) added more than seven million net subscribers in the third quarter of 2024 as its international Max rollout gathered pace, but other key earnings metrics dipped versus 2023 as box office revenues tumbled.
Growth in the Dtc segment was attributed to international expansion, as Max rolls out globally. Later this month on November 19, the service will launch in several Asia-Pacific markets. European rollout began in May. As such, global Dtc subscribers were 110.5 million at the end of the quarter, with the 7.2 million added representing the biggest quarterly increase since the launch of Max.
Total Wbd revenues were $9.62 billion, a 3% fall year-on-year, while total adjusted Ebitda was $2.41 billion, down 18%. Net income was just $135 million, thanks in large part to a $1.6 billion pre-tax cost relating to “acquisition-related amortisation of intangibles, content fair value step-up and restructuring expenses.” Free cash flow was down a significant 69% to $632 million.

Warner Bros has delayed Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 yet again. For once, this may not be a bad thing…
For those of you eagerly awaiting Bong Joon-ho’s follow up to the Oscar-winning Parasite, this might sting a little. Despite having to endure a delay of almost a year already, Warner Bros has pushed Mickey 17 back even further into 2025.
A quick recap: Mickey 17 puts Robert Pattinson in a weird but fun looking sci-fi satire. The film was originally set to release in March of this year before the film was removed from that scheduled slot. A hold-up in post-production work was the publicly-stated reason that we got at the time, but the project has been dogged by rumours that the studio was unhappy with Bong’s movie. Some stories even suggested he may have lost final cut.
Bong eventually came out and publicly denied that report, maintaining...

Despite the sluggishness of the fall box office with the bombing of Joker: Folie à Deux and the flat-footed start of Venom: The Last Dance, the holiday frames are coming up roses. Specifically Disney’s Moana 2 could help fuel the year along with Wicked and Mufasa: The Lion King to nearly $9 billion. This is all per AMC CEO Adam Aron on this afternoon’s Q3 earnings call.
“Some people in the know are telling me that Moana 2 could eclipse and outshine even the success of Inside Out 2,” he beamed. By the way, Inside Out 2 is the highest-grossing movie Ytd stateside with $652.9M. The Pixar sequel opened to $154.2M, the second-highest opening of the year behind Disney’s own Deadpool & Wolverine from Marvel Studios ($211.4M).

Joker: Folie à Deux will go down as one of the biggest failures at the 2024 box office after its dismal earnings and speedy debut on PVOD. Todd Phillips’ musical sequel earned $204M worldwide, paling compared to the original’s staggering $1B+ blockbuster performance. Opinions differ significantly about the film’s quality (depending on who you talk to). However, most say they feel betrayed by the follow-up, saying it lacks the spirit of the original. Regardless of how you think about the film, money talks in Hollywood, and right now, the Joker sequel comes off like a bad joke. When the film failed to launch above expectations (or remotely close), WB announced a digital release date less than a week into the drama’s theatrical run. Unfortunately, Fandango says sales for Joker: Folie à Deux match the underwhelming performance of its cinematic showing.

Recently, director Quentin Tarantino praised the much-maligned direct-to-video Bruce Willis films on his Video Archives Podcast. “I was really impressed by Bruce Willis in these movies,” he said. “I thought he was really charming in them. He’s really fun.” The director admitted that it was obvious that Willis was operating with an earpiece. “You can never have a scene where he says a line, somebody else says a line, and he says a line back,” he explained. “You’re getting one line out of him at a time, so there’s always a cut. But he’s making it work. He’s not phoning in his performances.“
When speaking of former stars who transitioned to Dtv movies, Tarantino would also address Nicolas Cage’s uniquely zig-zagging career. However, he would spotlight one of Cage’s more recently acclaimed movies, Pig. Tarantino said, “In watching some of the Nic Cage stuff,...

For the past few weeks, I have been watching stuff that is intentionally and confidently convoluted in an attempt to make it seem like the story is complex, even though it’s clearly not. It’s not like I am voluntarily picking out these projects. They’re all chosen randomly so that they can be covered during the week of their release. And despite the unmethodical nature of the choices, if a pattern shows up, then I think it’s a trend. Joker: Folie à Deux seemed like an ending explainer for the previous movie, but it alternated between what’s real and what’s not in the dumbest fashion imaginable. Teacup was like a wannabe From, which itself was a confounding trip. The Last Night at Tremore Beach was infuriating and baffling. The Man Who Loved UFOs, despite being a biography, was a whole lot of nothing. Then there was Caddo Lake,...

Joker: Folie à Deux opened to terrible reviews from both critics and audiences, with a low 32% approval rating on each side, making it “rotten.”
It also got a “D” grade from CinemaScore—the lowest ever for a superhero movie, though calling Joker 2 a superhero or comic book movie is a bit of a stretch.
After a disappointing box office opening, Joker: Folie à Deux saw one of the steepest second-week drops in superhero movie history. It made just $2.2 million on its second Friday, an 89.1% decline from its opening day—one of the lowest second-weekend showings for a DC movie this century.
By November 3, 2024, the film had earned $204.7 million worldwide ($58.2 million in the U.S. and Canada and $146.5 million internationally), but with a break-even point estimated between $375 million and $450 million, it’s expected to lose Warner Bros. around $125–200 million.

Warner Bros. Discovery gave up on Joker: Folie à Deux shortly after its disastrous opening weekend and quickly announced a Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) release mere weeks after it hit theaters.
However, if the studio was hoping people would watch the Joker sequel at home, executives are likely to be disappointed all over again.
Joker: Folie à Deux has only managed to reach fourth place on both the iTunes and Fandango charts, placing it behind The Substance, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (so there's some good news for Warner Bros.) on the former.
That site ranks movies by transactions; Fandango, meanwhile goes with revenue and the movie subsequently sits behind The Wild Robot, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on that platform.

Naomi Scott is best known for her work in Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels. She was recently seen in the horror film Smile 2, which has reportedly received positive acclaim from critics and has earned $109 million at the box office. Scott has a long lineup of films, including her debut as a producer in Eternal Return.
Ever since her Aladdin days, Scott’s ethnicity has been under scrutiny. While Disney’s live-action adaptation sought to correct the racial stereotypes propagated by the animated original, Scott’s casting was controversial due to Princess Jasmine being largely believed to be Middle-Eastern or Indian. Actors face multiple outrageous demands and requests throughout their day, and this is especially true for actresses. Hollywood is infamous for its unachievable beauty standards, to maintain which artists undergo numerous changes.
However, there are some who simply refuse to listen to others’ opinions about their bodies. Monica Barbaro was once asked to alter a major aspect of her face which appalled her. Maintaining her calm, the Top Gun: Maverick actress fought against the toxic trend of demanding bodily changes from female artists.

This year has been plagued by some pretty big box office bombs, from "Joker: Folie à Deux" utterly failing to meet the expectations set up by its predecessor to "Borderlands" flopping harder than a middle-aged gamer playing against 12-year-olds on "Fortnite." Now, at least one of the biggest box office flops of the year is getting a second life on Netflix.
"Harold and the Purple Crayon" is currently holding the number 5 spot on Netflix's top 10 streaming charts. Tom Hanks said on the latest episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he’s never had a meeting with Kevin Feige about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, nor has he broken bread with James Gunn to talk about the new DC Universe. With that said, Hanks has never had any issues with comic book movies over the years. Although he is noticing now that audiences seem to be moving on from VFX-enhanced comic book spectacle in favor of genuine storytelling.

‘The Substance’ Does Equal to ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ on PVOD, but ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Is Bigger
Warner Bros.’ woes with “Joker: Folie à Deux” continue with a weak debut on PVOD. The disastrous around $300 million investment for them left theaters after four weeks with under $60 million in domestic gross. Now, it is falling flat in initial PVOD response.
It placed fourth on both iTunes (which ranks by transactions) and Fandango (revenue-counting) after its release last Tuesday. “The Substance” (Mubi), released on Thursday (and also streaming at their site for subscribers), is third at iTunes, sixth at Fandango, debuts at #1.

Well, at least Hideo Kojima agrees with Quentin Tarantino: “Joker: Folie à Deux” just might be considered the film of the year…in a decade or two.
The “Death Stranding” video game creator Kojima praised Todd Phillips’ critically panned box-office disaster sequel on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that in the next 10 to 20 years, “Joker: Folie à Deux” could be considered a classic film.

To paraphrase Wesley Snipes as Blade in this summer’s blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine”: There’s only one “Barbenheimer.” There’s only ever gonna be one “Barbenheimer.”
Hollywood might never replicate the je ne sais quoi that prompted the explosion of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” double features, turning the box office battle between two very different films into a once-in-a-generation cinematic event. But multiplex owners are hoping that “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” achieve something close as the pink-and-green musical and the Colosseum-set action epic land in theaters on Nov. 22.
“It won’t happen in the same way, but the conversation around ‘Wicked’ and ‘Gladiator’ is reminiscent of ‘Barbenheimer,’” says Shawn Robbins, Fandango’s director of movie analytics. “They’re fueling each other.”
Whether or not “Glicked” is the second coming of “Barbenheimer,” there’s mounting pressure on Thanksgiving movies — Disney’s “Moana 2” swims to the big screen on Nov.

The Paddington franchise got its next installment Paddington in Peru with early critics raving about the film’s success. Although the new movie didn’t surpass its predecessors, it did manage to impress reviewers and maintain the series’ fan following.
However, the surprising factor is that the upcoming movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score managed to overtake not only Joker 2, but also Venom 3. Considered the weakest out of the famed animated franchise, the new film still managed to do what both Joker: Folie à Deux and Venom: The Last Dance couldn’t.

Dougal Wilson took over the direction for the upcoming animated comedy film Paddington in Peru. The movie marks the third installment in the Paddington film series, based on the stories of Paddington the Bear by Michael Bond.

“Death Stranding” creator and video game auteur Hideo Kojima is joining the likes of Quentin Tarantino in defending “Joker: Folie à Deux” amid the sequel’s disastrous theatrical release. The movie bombed with critics and has earned just over $200 million at the worldwide box office after one month in theaters, a far cry from the $1 billion gross of the 2019 original. Kojima wrote to his 3.9 million X followers that he predicts the film’s reception is likely to change over the next decade or two.
“I watched ‘Joker: Folie à Deux.’ The beginning of the film is an animation sequence, reminiscent of the nostalgic ‘Looney Tunes,’ depicting a story of Joker and Joker’s shadow,” Kojima wrote. “In the trial that follows, the question of his multiple personality is argued from beginning to end. Is the Joker Arthur? Is the Joker another personality (his shadow)? Who exactly is Arthur? This revelation eventually transforms into a meta-perspective.

It’s not your average Friday when a film like Joker: Folie à Deux releases. The film was one of the most anticipated sequels that the world had been waiting for. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it was a… weird experience.

Robert Zemeckis has always been about a great technological or storytelling conceit in his movies whether it’s the live-action animated hybrid of the 3x Oscar winning Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, the insertion of Tom Hanks in famed historical footage in Oscar Best Picture Forrest Gump or the motion capture of The Polar Express.
However, his latest movie, the $50M Miramax financed and Sony released Here, which brings back together the Gump gang of Tom Hanks, Robin Wright and scribe Eric Roth, was a situation of technology outshining the story. Critics deep sixed the multi-generation family drama which takes place in one location throughout time at a fixed angle with 36% Rotten while audiences weren’t any better with a B- CinemaScore, 57% Rt audience score and 69% positive on PostTrak.
It’s no wonder that the movie opened to $5M, and it’s unfortunate box office streak for the once blockbuster mass-appealing Back to the Future,...
