    Max Headroom (1985)

The Emmy winning* directors of the edgy and biting cult television series, Max Headroom, Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton were ultimately responsible for the horrible direction of Super Mario Bros..

Bob Hoskins in Super Mario Bros. (1993)

Poor poor Oscar nominated/Golden Globe winning actor Bob Hoskins was stuck in the title role as Mario Mario, but played in the shadow as a secondary lead to John Leguizamo's Luigi.

Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, and Samantha Mathis in Super Mario Bros. (1993)

What drugs were the studio execs smoking to have them approve the hellish and grungy dystopic city of Dinohattan; the not-so-family-friendly character design of the goombas, Yoshi, Ietc...?

To be fair, nothing about this movie is family friendly like the video game.

Twice Oscar nominated legend, Dennis Hopper, had to stoop so low for a paycheck.

Respected Broadway playwright and Golden Globe nominated actor John Leguizamo sold his soul to play lead in this Hollywood box office flop.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (1989)

The two dimensions/broken meteorite storyline was atrociously convoluted. The movie's plot was the farthest thing from the simple fairy-taleesque save-the-princess from the villain storyline of video games.

Why didn't the studio just adapt the existing animated television series, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (1989) to the big screen?

None of the actors had a chance when they were dealt with Razzie worthy story and dialogue.

    Luigi: Remember, trust the fungus.

King Koopa: My, my, someone got up on the wrong side of the nest this morning.

King Koopa: [bathing in mud] Do you know what I love about mud? It's clean and it's dirty at the same time.

    Etc....

John Leguizamo and Bob Hoskins in Super Mario Bros. (1993)

I first watched it as a little kid. I may be blinded by sentimentality but I still think Super Mario Bros (1993) is a blast of fun!

I'm a hipster. I love this movie ironically because of ... its high camp value.

(from left) Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy and Mike Nelson of Rifftrax.com

The movie is pretty tolerable (quite funny in fact) when you watch it alongside the booster shot of the biting medicinal Rifftrax commentary by Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, and Mike Nelson.
