As Good Morning America opened for its latest episode, Robin Roberts was absent from the desk.
Instead, viewers saw her regular co-anchors, Michael Strahan and George Stephanopolous, joined by Rebecca Jarvis.
Jarvis previously replaced Roberts during other GMA absences, including work trips for assignments in Iowa and Tennessee.
In this latest instance, Roberts had another excellent reason for missing the ABC morning program as she had some fun in the sun.
Several days ago, she shared an intriguing message about the “demands of work” and later hinted that she had traveled away from GMA but had a flight delay.
However, a new social media post arrived, showing that Roberts was enjoying the warm and sunny Bahamas with several friends.

Another major media company is merging its news division and its local stations in hopes of wringing new profits from two businesses that are being hurt by the rise of streaming video.
Disney will place the veteran executive Debra OConnell atop a new division that encompasses ABC News and its local station operations, with ABC News President Kim Godwin and Stations President Chad Matthews reporting to her. The structure is similar to one Paramount Global put in place last year when it folded CBS News, local CBS stations and syndication under a single executive, Wendy McMahon.
As president of news group and networks for Disney Entertainment, OConnell will report to Dana Walden, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment. Godwin, meanwhile, has renewed her contract to stay in her current role, even though she will have a new layer of management between her and top Disney executives.

Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan were missing from the latest Good Morning America episode ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.
As GMA opened for Friday’s installment, viewers saw George Stephanopoulos at the desk, but his other co-anchors were absent.
Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis filled in for Roberts, while Gio Benitez replaced Strahan during the episode. Jarvis and Benitez have appeared on GMA on other occasions to replace various anchors.
When the crew appeared on screen after an introduction to GMA’s upcoming stories, Stephanopoulos didn’t mention what Roberts or Strahan were up to.
It’s not the first Friday GMA that Roberts has missed, as she’s been out on previous episodes to end the week. She may be continuing the promotion of her recently released project, too.
Meanwhile, Strahan was away from GMA for the entire week due to events involving his family.

Robin Roberts was absent from Good Morning America for several days while away to promote another project she is heavily involved with.
The longtime GMA anchor appeared on several episodes of ABC’s morning program last week but was not at the desk with George Stephanopolous on Friday.
She also missed Tuesday’s episode, the latter of which featured the return of co-anchor Michael Strahan to the show.
Ahead of that, Monsters and Critics reported that Roberts took a trip with her wife and her “Glam Fam” crew.
The group went to the annual Sundance Film Festival held in Park City, Utah, until the end of the month.
A big part of Roberts’ reason for being there was revealed as she spoke about her upcoming television work, which has her in a different role than usual.

When Peter Alexander opens Saturday’s broadcast of “Today,” he will find himself opposite a new host — and a potential sparring partner.
Laura Jarrett, a relatively new arrival to NBC News, is taking over as his co-anchor on the weekend edition of the long-running morning program now that Kristen Welker is moving to host “Meet The Press.” As Alexander discovered during a rehearsal session on Thursday, he will have to be prepared.
“She is smart as heck, which is not a surprise, but she is going to throw stuff back at me, as we found out at rehearsal,” Alexander quipped. “I have got to be ready.”
By pairing Jarrett, who was recently named to helm the justice beat at NBC News, with Alexander, its chief White House correspondent, NBC is no doubt keeping its corporate eye on a critical moment. The run-up to the 2024 election will demand familiarity not only with Washington,...

Updated with latest: The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed at a news conference today that “a debris field was discovered within the search area by an Rov near the Titanic” is, in fact, from the Titan submersible. The five people aboard are feared dead after what one official termed as a debris field consistent with a “catastrophic implosion.”
The Coast Guard briefing was led by Rear Adm. John Mauger, who offered his deepest condolences to the families. Mauger also offered the following details: The first piece of wreckage identified was the tail cone of the Titan. It was discovered 1600 feet from the bow of the titanic. The Rov subsequently found the front end barrel of the pressure hull.
“The debris is consistent with catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber,” he added.

Gio Benitez is hoping to marry the two jobs he holds for ABC News.
As the Disney unit’s transportation correspondent, he has been close to the recent movement into private space travel. As a newly named co-anchor for the weekend edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” he will handle stories that draw out viewers’ emotions and attention. He will continue to handle both roles.
“I’m a space geek,” says Benitez, “and I get to still keep on doing it.”
“I’ll tell you what he’s pitching,” says Simone Swink, the executive producer of ABC’s A.M. flagship. “He wants to be the first civilian and journalist on whatever the first mission to Mars is. That will be our ongoing conversation for the next five years.”

“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan will be the new co-anchors of GMA3: What You Need to Know, which has been without permanent hosts since the exit of Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes.
The network also announced that Gio Benitez would join the Saturday and Sunday editions of Good Morning America as co-anchor, along with Whit Johnson and Janai Norman.

Now that ABC News has cleaned house, it probably needs to fill it back up.
Executives at the Disney news division — and its corporate parent — hoped to cut recent scrutiny by parting ways with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, the co-anchors of early-afternoon program “GMA3” who also had a romantic relationship despite being married to other people. On Friday, the two sides broke up, so to speak, with ABC News President Kim Godwin telling staffers she hoped their departure would end a period of “distraction” at the home of “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.”
But Godwin and her team are likely to face a period of rebuilding.
Holmes and Robach leave ABC News as it needs to focus more closely on lining up a new tier of talent. Cecilia Vega, a Washington correspondent who frequently filled in for Robin Roberts on “GMA3,” recently left ABC News for a new role at “60 Minutes.

ABC News is officially parting ways with GMA3 anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes.
“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Reports of Holmes and Robach’s relationship surfaced in early December in the tabloids, with ABC News president Kim Godwin deciding Dec.

T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach’s fate at ABC is still up in the air.
Despite talk that the “GMA3” anchors are unlikely to return, ABC isn’t looking for potential replacements, TMZ reports.

As “GMA3” heads into its third week without co-anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, questions swirl about their future and that of the show. Will they be fired? Will ABC bring the scandal-ridden co-hosts back after the revelation of their romantic relationship while both are still married to others? Have the reports of Holmes’ previous two affairs with “GMA” colleagues made him too toxic for a Disney-owned company?

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes will remain off the air at GMA for the foreseeable future.
The pair are currently the subject of an internal investigation regarding an alleged affair.
They were both removed from the series earlier this month, and it has been reported they will not be back until the conclusion of the internal investigation.
Details about the pair's future on the morning show were shared by way of an internal memo from ABC News president Kim Godwin, obtained by E! News.
“I understand that the continuing coverage can be distracting from the incredibly important work our team does here at ABC News.”
She added, “It is my hope that we will continue to focus our energy on what we do best, and I want all of you to know how immensely proud I am of your hard work and professionalism.”
For now, the series will use a rotation of anchors.

Update: Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes remain off the air as the network conducts an internal review of the situation following the revelation of a romantic relationship between the two news figures.
ABC News President Kim Godwin confirmed in a memo the network was conducting an internal review as they remain off the air, according to a source. CNN first reported on the memo.
Last week, Godwin told staffers that the relationship between the two anchors had become an “internal and external distraction” in deciding to pull them off the air.

But later in the week, Semafor reported that an internal review was being conducted.

Gayle King shared her thoughts on the “Good Morning America” scandal that caused ABC to temporarily pull anchors Amy Robach and Tj Holmes off the air following reports of their romantic relationship.
“It’s very interesting what’s happening over there,” the CBS Mornings” co-host said of the rival morning show on a Thursday episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.”
