Exclusive: The pre-Broadway engagement of the Elton John-Shaina Taub musical The Devil Wears Prada is showing its fashion sense for the first time in Prada-appropriate stylized photos provided exclusively to Deadline.
See the pictures below.
The musical, which begins a limited five-week Chicago engagement on July 19, stars Beth Leavel as Miranda Priestly and Taylor Iman Jones as Andy Sachs – the roles played by Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in the 2006 film version – and the new photos show the actors looking suitably chic as the iconic fashionistas.
In case you somehow missed Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling 2003 novel or the subsequent hit film, The Devil Wears Prada tells the story of young Andy Sachs (Jones) who has just landed a dream job at the fashion bible Runway Magazine. The dream, of course, turns nightmarish thanks to the tyrannical rule and rigidly high standards of Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly (Leavel), an Anna Wintour-ish diva who takes no prisoners.

Judging from her historically impressive line-up of pop clients choreographer James Alsop is more than game for a challenge. But the Peacock comedy Girls5Eva presented a singular challenge: crafting believable routines for a fictitious girl group coming out of obscurity after a peak in the 1990s.
“Please forgive me for name-dropping, but it absolutely rings true to having worked with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams”, says Alsop, referring to how female pop groups were often treated as cogs in a machine, which the show frequently and satirically depicts. “They’re so amazing. To see how this show really shines a light on what it was like to be in a group like that, now I completely understand why they recorded “Independent Women”.
It didn’t hurt that Alsop had some previous experience with key members of the Girls5Eva team. “[Executive producers] Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond brought me...

Netflix’s new musical drama “Soundtrack,” from “Smash” executive producer Joshua Safran, is a deeply frustrating entry to the genre. Originally pitched as “Mixtape” for broadcast network TV, “Soundtrack” uses a vague framework of “Love songs are good” to have its characters lip-sync existing songs — by artists ranging from Demi Lovato to Joni Mitchell —at sporadic moments throughout the series. In two intertwining timelines, romantic leads Sam and Nellie — played with verve by Paul James (“Greek”) and Callie Hernandez (“Under the Silver Lake”)— circle each other and express their frustrations to the tune of Imagine Dragons and St. Vincent. Their concerned mother figures Antoinette (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and Margot (Madeleine Stowe) pace across the screen to Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton. Nellie’s father, Frank (Campbell Scott), fittingly embraces classic dad rock, while Sam’s struggling cousin Dante (Jahmil French) prefers The Weeknd.

Tony Award winner Beth Leavel has been cast in the pre-Broadway production of The Devil Wears Prada as tyrannical fashion editor Miranda Priestly, while Taylor Iman Jones (Broadway’s Head Over Heels) will take the role of her put-upon assistant Andy Sachs, producers announced today.
The casting announcement comes as the pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago was postponed a year, from a planned July 2020 start to July 2021. Ever since Beyoncé released her rendition of Frankie Beverly and Maze's 1981 hit "Before I Let Go," fans have been sharing some amazing dance videos inspired by the jam. One of the latest people to get in on the action is Jenna Dewan. The 38-year-old actress and dancer shared a clip of her taking on the "Before I Let Go" challenge as she bunny hops, shuffles to the left, and drops it down low to the floor. "I mean..we couldn't resist..!" she captioned the video. She also credits Beyoncé's choreographer James Alsop who dances alongside her in the clip.
Jenna and James have also been working together on the upcoming series Mixtape, which was picked up by Netflix last year. Jenna is starring in the musical drama that will follow the love stories connecting a group of people living in Los Angeles. And since she has so much experience with dancing and acting,...

Following up the initial announcement of titles, the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival revealed it will open with the period drama Les Adieux à la reine (Farewell My Queen) today. From director Benoît Jacquot, the drama stars Inglourious Basterds lead Diane Kruger, as well as Léa Seydoux who broke-out in Midnight in Paris and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol this year. Based on, Chantal Thomas’ novel we have the first stills of the film (from Lumiere via The Playlist) that follows the “first few days of the French Revolution from the perspective of the servants at Versailles.”
Kruger, who plays Marie Antoinette here, has only appeared in one big film following her post-Basterds role with Unknown, but I look forward to her future work, especially with this film. I thought Seydoux was great as an action villain in Ghotocol and excited to see her career rise. Check out the stills below,...
