Hearts are broken, but it’s hard to feel the love for this unconvincing romantic dramedy
There are some nice moments in this romantic comedy-drama from first-time screenwriter Laura Graham, but the romance and characterisation are so shallow and unconvincing.
Sean Maguire plays Galway musician Sean, lead singer in a struggling but talented band. He is nursing a broken heart, unable to forget his lost love: beautiful music journalist Amy (Lorna Anderson), whose heart he broke by getting drunk on his stag night, winding up at a dodgy party miles away in Limerick and not showing up for their wedding. To the bemusement of his bandmates, Sean pays for studio time to record an agonised concept album about his feelings, titled Songs for Amy. Midway through the movie, the plot takes an unconvincing sideways lurch regarding a death in the family and a legacy, and Sean finds himself the proprietor...

Sundance is well and truly over out in Park City, with some very promising films making their debut out in Utah. And with the year’s first big festival complete, we turn our eyes next to the Berlinale, and then shortly after, the Glasgow Film Festival.
The line-up for this year’s Glasgow Film Festival was announced earlier in the month, with an absolutely stellar set of films landing their UK premiere up in Scotland next month.
Régis Roinsard’s Populaire has been selected for the Opening Night Film, with Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing chosen for the Closing Night Film. And in between is a slew of films, including some of the most highly-anticipated of the year: Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines; Neil Jordan’s Byzantium; Michael Winterbottom’s The Look of Love; and Nicolás López’s Aftershock, with Eli Roth.

Sean Maguire (Meet the Spartans, Eastenders) has been cast alongside Scottish actress Lorna Anderson (River City) to play leading roles in Sonny and Skye's new Irish comedy 'Seven Songs for Amy'. Set in contemporary rural Ireland, the feature will see Sean Maguire take on the male lead as singer and musician Sean O'Malley who loses the love of his life and tries to win her back. Lorna Anderson is cast alongside Sean as his love Amy, with Dubliner Kevin J. Ryan (Laredo, Tripping Tommy) playing a successful global pop star who charms the leading lady.

Lorna Anderson has revealed that she has quit River City in order to pursue a movie career. The actress, who plays gangster Lenny's daughter Amber Murdoch in the soap, told the News of the World that she has already filmed her final scenes, to be aired on BBC Scotland in September. She said: "I've been in River City for four years and loved every second of it. But I think it's just time to move on and try something new. Former Coronation Street star Samuel Robertson has joined the cast of Scottish soap River City, it has been announced. The 23-year-old actor, who played Weatherfield's Adam Barlow from 2004 to 2007, has signed up for the role of art history student Innes Maitland on the BBC One show. Robertson's character will immediately attract romantic attention from Amber Murdoch (Lorna Anderson) when he hits screens later this year.
