"Bravery is real. Out here, bad people become good." Gravitas Ventures has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Woods Are Real, made by filmmaker Alix Lambert. This seems to be a shoddy "liberals are dumb!" film made by American conservatives, which is not surprising to see nowadays but it also doesn't have much of anything interesting to say either... The film is described as a "folk horror twist" on the story of Job from the Bible. Joba and Quincy are a wealthy Brooklyn couple who value charity above all. But when a friend returns from a country pilgrimage to challenge their bleeding hearts, they accept an invitation that will change their lives forever. They end up trapped in the woods with everything taken from them... Starring Matt Dellapina and Chinasa Ogbuagu as Joba and Quincy, with Campbell Scott as The Woodsman, Nick Westrate, Jeffrey Omura,...

The Woods Are Real will be available on Digital outlets March 12, 2024.
The film is said to put “a folk horror twist on the story of Job.” Watch the trailer below.
“Joba and Quincy are a privileged, fiercely progressive Brooklyn couple – they buy the right things, donate to the proper foundations, and march for every just cause. But when their friend, Caleb, returns from a country pilgrimage challenging their bleeding liberal hearts, Quincy is initially skeptical. But when Joba insists they take up an invitation to the same off-grid spot, they are met by a kitschy cabin in the woods peppered with analog devices of a simpler age: a rotary phone, religious iconography, an Edison machine.

It’s easy for children to be feel apprehensive and overwhelmed by the world. The best animated movies are entertaining enough for kids while providing rewarding diversions for older viewers. This Netflix premiere from DreamWorks Animation hits just that sweet spot. Hilariously and movingly tapping into typical childhood anxieties, it’s infused with ample wit of both the visual and verbal variety for adults, the latter courtesy of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) in his return to feature-length animation, nine years after Anomalisa. Much like the streamer’s recent Nimona, Orion and the Dark proves the sort of sophisticated animated project that outshines many recent big-screen toons.
Based on the illustrated children’s book by Emma Yarlett, the story revolves around Orion (Jacob Tremblay, Room), a fifth-grader with an inordinate number of fears that he dutifully chronicles in a vividly illustrated sketchbook.
Many of them are typical for an early adolescent, from being afraid to talk to a classmate...

Charlie Kaufman‘s work normally provides for some very dynamic and interesting visuals. However, he has only dipped his toe into an animated feature film only once before with the stop-motion animated movie Anomalisa. Now, the writer of such films as Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind looks to be trying his hand at a traditional family-friendly animated comedy with Orion and the Dark. Sean Charmatz is in the director’s chair. Netflix has just released the trailer.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
“Orion seems a lot like your average elementary school kid –– shy, unassuming, harboring a secret crush. The latest trailer for Netflix and DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming animated film, Orion and the Dark, has Ike Barinholtz voicing the role of Light, Dark’s nemesis, as Orion, voiced by Jacob Tremblay, learns there’s nothing to be afraid of in the night.
“Everyday I bring brightness and hope to the world, and you bring the exact opposite,” Light tells Dark, voiced by Paul Walter Hauser, as their comic light versus darkness battle plays out while an anxious Orion confronts his greatest fears in life.
“Oh, whatever!” a gloomy Dark responds as his unlikely friendship with Orion grows as Tremblay’s character must shed his adolescent anxiety over much in life to overcome his worst fear: the dark. The moral of their journey together is stop letting fear control your life and embrace the joy of living.

Charlie Kaufman is bringing more neuroses to Netflix, this time with an animated twist.
The “Adaptation” screenwriter penned the adaptation of YA novel “Orion and the Dark” for the streaming platform. Jacob Tremblay voices the title character Orion, who is an anxiety-ridden elementary schooler trying to get over his fear of the dark. Turns out, the Dark is actually a physical entity (Paul Walter Hauser) who brings Orion on an adventure to confront his fears, ranging from clowns, fireworks, and ghouls.
“Orion, I’m going to get you to overcome your fears if it kills me,” the Dark says in the trailer.
Angela Bassett, Colin Hanks, Natasia Demetriou, Golda Rosheuvel, Nat Faxon, Aparna Nancherla, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gugino, Matt Dellapina, Nick Kishiyama, Mia Akemi Brown, Shannon Chan-Kent, and Jack Fisher also star. Werner Herzog narrates the film.
Animator Sean Charmatz marks his feature directorial debut with the DreamWorks and Netflix film.

It’s been over a twenty years since Scream reinvented the slasher genre, heralding a new age of post-modern, self-referential horror. In the two decades since, the genre has found its way back to its more horrific, and in a lot of cases cliched, ways – with modern filmmakers, many of whom grew up in the 80s at the height of the slashers popularity, rediscovering what made the much-maligned genre so great. However, given that film, like life, is cyclical, it means its probably about time for yet another “reinvention.”
And to that end comes Ruin Me….
Every Halloween, more extreme haunted attractions open for business, each promising even more thrills. Some have taken this to a whole new level.

Ruin Me is a horror film that makes fun of horror tropes. This title has already had a long run on the film festival circuit. Now, Rlj Entertainment is set to release the film on home entertainment formats, this October. In Ruin Me, several horror fans sign up for a Slasher Sleepout. In the 36 hour event, these six strangers are subjected to strange characters and events, in a remote wood. As well, Ruin Me stars: Marcienne Dwyer, Matt Dellapina, Chris Hill and several others. A preview of the film's wide release, in the United States, is hosted here. While on the road, writers Preston DeFrancis and Trysta A. Bissett have talked about this release. DeFrancis was studying directing in the University of South Carolina, while Bissett was researching scriptwriting (iHorror). Together, they developed several comedies and romantic comedies, before turning to horror. At a special haunting event, they found their...

Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart are like the three Jennifer Lawrences of YouTube, rising stars whose real life friendship has caused fans to dub the trio “The Holy Trinity.”
For the record, they did not name themselves that. “I was hoping we’d be the Destiny’s Child of YouTube,” Hannah Hart said in an interview recorded earlier today on IndieWire’s Facebook page.
“We tried for that, but it’s trademarked,” said Helbig. Speaking of trademarks, this quick-witted back and forth between the three creators has earned them millions of fans across social media. It’s a genuine chemistry that serves them well in “Dirty 30,” the trio’s second feature film, which debuts tomorrow in select theaters and on iTunes.
