Throughout October, we've been teasing the online anthology series Darknet from creators Vincenzo Natali (Haunter) and Ginger Snaps producer Steve Hoban.
An adaptation of the Japanese series, Darknet finds Natali in the director's chair along with Brett Sullivan, Rodrigo Gudino, Anthony Scott Burns and Jeremy Ball.
Yesterday, the series kicked off with episode one. You can now watch the 25-minute entry inside. Keep an eye on this spot for more.

From Blood and Donuts and Ginger Snaps to Splice and, his latest, Haunter, producer Steve Hoban has been a staple in the Canadian horror scene since the mid Nineties.
He’s now working again with director Vincenzo Natali on a new experimental web series called Darknet that should be making its way onto television here in the States in the near future. For now, as of 12:01am this morning, fans can watch the first installment over at Darknetfiles.com. And, believe me, it’s worth checking out. Consisting of interweaving storylines and connected characters in different instances of urban horror, the first episode runs about 25 minutes and features some really solid, well-crafted moments. Just before the debut, Hoban was kind of enough to speak with us for a few minutes to talk about the series.

Directed by Vincenzo Natali ("Splice"), the pilot below is for "Darknet," an intriguing new horror anthology series that will air on Canada's Super Channel and on the website darknetfiles.com. Described as being made up of "snippets of people's lives being interrupted by vivid instances of unexpected violence or shocking strangeness," "Darknet" recalls browsing on a web site full of strange, sinister material, the episode below consisting of interwoven short horror stories. It also brings to mind "V/H/S" in its bringing in of different directors, in this case Natali's "Splice" producer Steve Hoban (making his directorial debut in the second episode), Brett Sullivan ("Orphan Black"), Rodrigo Gudiño ("The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh") and newcomers Anthony Scott Burns and Jeremy Ball. Natali, Pascal Trottier, Doug Taylor ("Splice"), James Kee, Randall Cole ("388 Arletta Ave") and Sarah Larsen are the writers. The first season of "Darknet" will begin airing on.

Frost
Directed by Jeremy Ball
Written by Jeremy Ball
Canada, 2012
“All things leave a mark on this world. Sometimes the marks are small… the difference between people and animals is that people choose the marks they leave behind. Animals just can’t seem to help themselves”.
In a film with sparse dialogue, this line is mentioned two times, each in a different context, and each with a different meaning. It isn’t redundant or ham-fisted storytelling; it’s purposely repetitive for poetic effect. It shows the universal nature of this aphorism, as well as its unfortunate legacy and longevity. It shows the wisdom of those who composed it, and the arrogance of those who choose to ignore it. But, moreover, it shows the surprising depth behind Frost, Jeremy Ball’s ten-minute sci-fi epic.
In the vast, boreal desert of some unknown tundra lives Naya (Emily Piggford), a young arctic hunter intent on demonstrating her prowess.
